I am so glad Paul Washer found evidence in scripture that its okay to sing. Its such a relief to know that singing is Biblical. Thank you so much Mr. Washer. Oh, and thanks for the brilliant advice on worship being a lesson in theology. Oh, and did you know that Jesus hung out with sinners and Jesus is the exact representation of God? Something is "terribly wrong" with you Mr. Washer.
Romans 8:38 – 39 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
I'm not condoning sin, we are called to walk in holiness...but any so called holiness outside of Jesus living inside of you does NOT determine whether or not God's presence is there. We don't have to beg and plead and cry out for God's presence...He's already given it to us and He promised to never take it away. This old covenant mindset has GOT to GO, it is literally killing people in the church. Pray for our brother Paul Washer, may he come into a New Covenant mindset!
@garth428 What is killing people inside the church is ignoring the power of Christ when He lives in us to bring us into holiness and righteousness. He said if you love me keep my commandments. He said be ye holy for I am holy. He did not give us any unjust commands. By His spirit He draws us to repentance. He has saved us and if He dwells in us He will burn away our flesh so that we live totally and completely in His will and we conform to the image of Christ.
Somebody needs to pray for Paul Washer. Teaching that God's spirit comes and goes based on how holy the people are!?! This is absolutely contrary to the Word. My Bible says that we are sealed with the Spirit unto the day of redemption. Who is Paul to tell someone that God's presence isn't in the room when the Holy Spirit is inside every single believer in the building!?! I don't remember the Bible saying: where 2 or more are gathered and are holy enough, there I am also.
@garth428 It says where two or three are GATHERED TOGETHER IN MY NAME there will I be also. In His name. His name is Holy. We must come to Him in repentance, sorrowful of our sins and of our flesh and willing to give up everything for Christ, to be consumed by Him. God commended His love toward us in that while we were yet in sin Christ came and died for us. He didn't come to just take away the punishment for our sins but to take away our sins. If you walk in sin you are not His.
@garth428 it does say where two or more are gather IN MY NAME there I am amongst them... In Jesus name doesn't mean holy enough. it means HOLY. .... other than being HOLY you are not in Jesus, but the Devil! Devil be gone! In Jesus' Name!
Paul Washer has a point - some worship is all about the flesh. But what is wrong with getting emotional about God? Must our worship be as drab as possible, so as to avoid our emotions getting involved? Why is engaging with God only on an intellectual level through worship more 'holy' than on an emotional level? Did Jesus not tell us to love God with all our HEARTS, SOUL and then mind? Seems to me that intellectuals rail against emotional types, and emotional types do the same to intellectuals
@CarrotBench I don't think Paul Washer meant that there's anything wrong with it being emotional. However, when it's based SOLELY on emotions, that's when there's something wrong. You are right, Jesus did say to worship God with our heart, soul, mind and strength. And it should be that (though I don't think there is anything to the order, as I personally feel all are equally important, and worship is about so much more than songs). I think it's not so much railing as it is keeping in check :)
This is one of the most sickest, perverted, twisted, attack on the believers Helmet of Salvation and Armor of GOD. Wow. There is such a thing as sacred music and it is not even remotely related to Rock. The term "Christian Rock" is an oxymoron. Rock is the music that both fostered and grew out of a culture of anarchy, rebellion, sexual permissiveness and godlesness. It is the music of evil. How can you play this in church and call it worship?
I think that i agree with you!! before i came to Christ i hated Rock music. But then i had to start to like it cause they make it this kind of music in my church. But what i dont understand is that (some) churches say that God created music. meaning that all the music is made by God and not by satan. satan created nothing, just stole it from God, and mis using it. he is like an ape, he tried to imitate everything Gods created. 1 second ago Good message! I think any music can touch our emotions, like secular music. I remember that certains songs touched my emotions and made me cry when I was nonbeliever. I believe that those directing the worship, do need to live in holliness because they guide us to worship the lord. Lots of contemporary music is nothing than rock music, etc and sometimes those singing have no idea about living in holliness, but some are very close to the lord and you can feel it.

I think Paul has many good points here, such as how worship can often be more emotion-induced than God-centered. However, I think some of his views might also be limiting God's ways (so to speak). While I agree it's a great idea that worship leaders should be theologians, we also have to bear in mind that God has often used the weak to lead the strong. All in all, I'd say his message here would make a good check for ourselves. But we should always remember that worship is much more than music.
Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: BUT TO THIS MAN I WILL LOOK, EVEN TO HIM THAT IS POOR AND OF A CONTRITE SPIRIT, AND TREMBLETH AT MY WORD. If someones looking for a pastor who will compromise on the truth for a word which can be accepted by everyone, Paul Washer is not your man. I'm serious, there are so many pastors who will give you the half truths you so desire that I would consider it an act of Gods mercy that he led you to a man who speaks the truth
Mr. Washer seems to want to put limits on God. How sad. My God is a big God, and He can reach you wherever you are. He can minister in any situation. Mr. Washer is so tied up in legalism and hatred, secretly seething and enjoying the idea that Heaven will be an 'exclusive' club for him and a few other pharisees... he cant see the need to reach out to all the hurting in a language they understand and relate to. it's not all about you, Mr. Washer.
@SueNC367 I don't understand how you can say Paul Washer doesnt see the need when he is a missionary in Peru and the very sermon that you have commented on is being translated for a foreign people. From what I understand of Paul Washer he is a man who cannot compromise the truth for half truths that anyone can relate to.
@daddycubjudah Because everything I've seen from him, and this message is one of those, are messages of God's condemnation and not God's love. If people, in particular, Christians, walk around, feeling as if God is not a Heavenly Father, but a strict disciplinarian, waiting to punish them for not being 'perfect' they lose heart and give up. I'm not suggesting we forget His commandments or pay no mind to our walk, but I'm saying God can reach people through many venues. Music is one of those.
@daddycubjudah Excellent, he sounds like a man of integrity, I might have to check out some of his other teachings. An uncompromising man of God is hard (almost impossible) to find anymore in today's "luke warm half truth, poor excuses for churches." (Synagogues of Satan)
You are right. I know a man and because he's talented they let him play in the worship. But he doenst have a testimony. He has divorced his wife and is still playing in the worship of the church. I know onother girl, she sings in the worship of the pentacostal church and she lives together with a man. We have to be very alert in not letting everybody to put their hands on your head and pray for you cause you dont know what kind of spirit this person has. look at the fruits first. God bless you.
@SueNC367 No, rather the scripture puts limits on us in terms of how we are to approach God. Mr. Washer is talking about the irreverent, silly, entertainment which passes for worship in too many churches. That isn't hatred, or legalism. That's truth telling.
@SueNC367 You're right! It isn't about Mr. Washer. It's about God. But when you take away from God the form of worship He prescribed and substitute it with something from Man, and support it, you are not in fellowship with Him. You are a Pharisee because you do things your own way and not God's.
Next time you sing a song at church that only has five lines that you repeat over and over ask yourself "Is there doctrine here I can learn from? Or am I babbling in order to convince myself?"
Sweetsweatyfeet : Say you suddenly had a revaluation that God does exist. Wouldn't He be a JUST and HOLY and PERFECT God? If that is true, He could not let evil into His kingdom because then it wouldn't be Holy and Perfect and Just anymore. Man chose to sin from the getgo and be apart from God. He has shown us mercy by giving us a Savior that we might be with Him again.

Wouldn't He be a JUST and PERFECT and HOLY God that the Bible speaks of? and if that is the case, He could not allow evil to exist with Him. Mankind has chosen to be apart from God from the getgo, but He had mercy and gave us a Savior in order that we might be with Him again.
sweetsweatyfeet:The old testament does speak of a "final punishment" (Ezekiel), an "eternal dishonor" (Jeremiah), "a consuming fire", "everlasting burning"(Isa 33:14), and "everlasting contempt" (Dan 12:2) ect. For you to say that "NT authors decided to come up with hell as a new and improved fear tactic" is simply ignorance of scripture.
@sweetsweatyfeet Dear friend I dont wanna judge you, but your claiming that something never happend by simply coming up with a hypothes, that it never happened. I understand the scepticism of yours because I was an atheist once too. I'd suggest you to look for the answers from both sides, have you ever really tryed attend church on sunday. People dont force you to belive Jesus, unless believing by ur own free will. The only way to look adequately is to search from both sides. Thank you 4 readin
Maybe that your god is a murderous tyrant who violates her own commandments and is not worthy of worship.
Oops, I forgot about the threat of hell. I guess I'll just have to worship and pretend to love god no matter what the OT says she did. --- unless I am an atheist; then I don't worry because I know it's all fabricated by bronze age primitives.
And I don't worry for the same reason Christians don't worry about an Islamic hell.
@sweetsweatyfeet Hey I just wanted to let you know there are no threats of hell only choices, christianity is seperated and that is nobodys fault, not even families can come together these days, the old testament was lived in the law and you were condmned to death knowing this prior did mean they were in hell or went there, after christ came to cleanse us from the consequence of sin in the new testament God justified us through grace, no need to die for sin because we are saved, hopethis clarif
That's a fundamentalist interpretation of scripture and typically American 20th century.
Proclaim scripture all you like but realize that I am an atheist which means I don't believe in god and I especially hold the bible as complete fabrication - zero evidence for the ludicrous claims.
The very core of fundamentalist Christianity with it's damnation of man as depraved I hold with the greatest of contempt. The horrible god you worship along with the whole Christian belief system is pure evil.
Christianity is a pus bucket of bronze age ignorance which has poisoned the human condition from the get go. I consider fundamentalist Christianity and Islam some of the most profoundly sick and evil of beliefs systems ever invented, The harm suffering they have caused is inestimable.
I despise both these religions with every fiber of my being. There, I said it.
Your an athiest? Ok you can talk about the christian religion all you want, but can you back up your own beliefs? How did all the matter and energy come into existence? Do you think that science is on your side? Do you believe that God killing is a contradiction against the character of God?
I'll try to answer your questions as best I can. I think you have some misconceptions about atheism and the universe. Firstly Atheism is not a system of beliefs, nor an ideology, nor a philosophy. It is only a position of skepticism in response to claims for deities.
Matter/energy did not COME into existence--there can never be a state of non-existence. It is time and space which are radically flexible. They bend and shrink but matter/energy are universals which cannot be created or destroyed.
Thanks for the definition of athiesm. I really had no idea what it was all about.lol. Your position of skepticism is not logical. The matter and energy could not have always existed according to the second law of thermo dynamics. So where did it come? Can you prove me wrong using science? Do you believe the big bang?
Consider beliefs other than Christianity---Zeus, Thor, Islam, JuJu, Shinto, Hinduism, paganism. When you understand why you don't believe in those gods, you will know why I don't believe in the Christian god.
The 2nd law of thermo... deals with entropy--energy/heat distribution in CLOSED SYSTEMS---it has nothing to do with where things came from. But the law of conservation does---it states that matter/energy CANNOT be CREATED or DESTROYED. Matter/energy is eternal---it transcend time & space.
The "big bang" theory is simply plausible speculation---It is the farthest scientists are able to trace matter/energy that is consistent with the known state of the universe. The big bang does NOT hold that things exploded into existence out of nothing.
Cosmologists certainly do NOT believe that a state of "nothingness' was a pre-curser to existence. Why so many theists misunderstand the big bang theory, I'll never know. I have no position on the "big bang" except to say it is feasible.
Sorry, NO mention of hell in the OT, absolutely none--zero.
Why?--because the psychopaths that wrote the OT scriptures had not hatched that diabolical scheme yet.
It wasn't until gentle Jesus (meek and mild) came along that the NT authors decided to come up with hell as a "new and improved" fear tactic to scare the peasants into belief and submission. Stoning, burning and torturing them just weren't working anymore.
Yes the fear based control system called Christianity had finally come of age.
actually they did exactly what God said not to do they suffered the consequences, God told them not to touch the ark or altar whatever and they did might have been a slip but they did in the old testament you had the law and that was life orm death, the new testament is Christ the law is no longer as important still is but not as, also you said hell was invented for the new testament wrong again, it is all over the old testament but thats neither here nor there, God came to this world to love U
It never happened because there is no such thing as god. You are simply deluded. It's all made up bullshit by primitive power lusters who simply want to control you. Christianity especially is the biggest pile of shit ever inflicted on mankind.
Is it norwegian? Or swedish?

If that is true, He could not let evil into His kingdom because then it wouldn't be Holy and Perfect and Just anymore. Man chose to sin from the getgo and be apart from God. He has shown us mercy by giving us a Savior that we might be with Him again.

To sweetsweatyfeet: say you suddenly had a knowledge that God does exist.

As someone who has written and played songs for many years I agree 100% with what Paul Washer says here about worship.

He says god killed two worshipers because he didn't like the way they worshipped. Anything wrong with this picture?
sweetsweatyfeet 2 years ago
ok its on the bible but what is your point?
swissdogg7 2 years ago
Maybe that your god is a murderous tyrant who violates her own commandments and is not worthy of worship.
Oops, I forgot about the threat of hell. I guess I'll just have to worship and pretend to love god no matter what the OT says she did. --- unless I am an atheist; then I don't worry because I know it's all fabricated by bronze age primitives.
And I don't worry for the same reason Christians don't worry about an Islamic hell.
sweetsweatyfeet 2 years ago

The horrible god you worship along with the whole Christian belief system is pure evil.
sweetsweatyfeet 2 years ago
Christianity is a pus bucket of bronze age ignorance which has poisoned the human condition from the get go. I consider fundamentalist Christianity and Islam some of the most profoundly sick and evil of beliefs systems ever invented, The harm suffering they have caused is inestimable.
I despise both these religions with every fiber of my being. There, I said it.
sweetsweatyfeet 2 years ago
Your an athiest? Ok you can talk about the christian religion all you want, but can you back up your own beliefs? How did all the matter and energy come into existence? Do you think that science is on your side? Do you believe that God killing is a contradiction against the character of God?
jaybeacon 2 years ago
I'll try to answer your questions as best I can. I think you have some misconceptions about atheism and the universe. Firstly Atheism is not a system of beliefs, nor an ideology, nor a philosophy. It is only a position of skepticism in response to claims for deities.
Matter/energy did not COME into existence--there can never be a state of non-existence. It is time and space which are radically flexible. They bend and shrink but matter/energy are universals which cannot be created or destroyed.
sweetsweatyfeet 2 years ago
Thanks for the definition of athiesm. I really had no idea what it was all about.lol. Your position of skepticism is not logical. The matter and energy could not have always existed according to the second law of thermo dynamics. So where did it come? Can you prove me wrong using science? Do you believe the big bang?
jaybeacon 2 years ago
Consider beliefs other than Christianity---Zeus, Thor, Islam, JuJu, Shinto, Hinduism, paganism. When you understand why you don't believe in those gods, you will know why I don't believe in the Christian god.
The 2nd law of thermo... deals with entropy--energy/heat distribution in CLOSED SYSTEMS---it has nothing to do with where things came from. But the law of conservation does---it states that matter/energy CANNOT be CREATED or DESTROYED. Matter/energy is eternal---it transcend time & space.
sweetsweatyfeet 2 years ago

Yes the fear based control system called Christianity had finally come of age.
sweetsweatyfeet 2 years ago
actually they did exactly what God said not to do they suffered the consequences, God told them not to touch the ark or altar whatever and they did might have been a slip but they did in the old testament you had the law and that was life orm death, the new testament is Christ the law is no longer as important still is but not as, also you said hell was invented for the new testament wrong again, it is all over the old testament but thats neither here nor there, God came to this world to love U

It never happened because there is no such thing as god. You are simply deluded. It's all made up bullshit by primitive power lusters who simply want to control you. Christianity especially is the biggest pile of shit ever inflicted on mankind.
