@DanielChristy19 My ass. Chinese? Not too sure they were just Chinese. It was a steal and Seagate finally fucking dissolved that company. All Hard Drives need to be researched before bought these days. Western Digital is gobbling up Hitachi, I like(d) them, and you fucking WD fans hated them, so go whine about their factories now.
@TheComputerVlogger Amazing. You have some rare examples of some terrible hard drives there. I'm afraid you won't get much support here as we are clearly Maxtor haters.
@skinnepa LMFAO! I second that. Another really rare case here, our Maxtor was Manf. Mid 2003, was in use from December 2003 until July 2011. I hated it from the first day. Noisy piece of shit, older motors my ass. Yup, it had tons of bad sectors forever (few years, comp wasnt used much tho) managed to boot work enough to get our data off from it, and I FINALLY just removed it for a new Seagate 320GB. Ours was in a Dell DIM 4600. I can't wait to smash it, it's gonna feel great fucking cheap shit!
the danm! same problem here ahh i hate maxtor my samsung hard disk worked a bout 6 years time for a new one i have a western digital 1.5 TB and one 500GB they work good never had problems well bye bye data on my maxtor ahhh
i have this exact drive and had it since about 05 and it just crashed on me just not too long ago. anyone know where is a good place to get it recovered? and maybe how much it will be?
I used to have the 6Y060P0. It actually wasn't that bad of the drive. Hell, it's still living right now. It's sitting in my brother's computer. Still, Maxtor FTL. I have a WD1600AAJB now and I'm SO much happier with it.
yeah i'll stay away from maxtor from now on, mine is STARTING to fail atm, been on and off clicking for about 2 years now, though everything works fine on it. So still im not taking chances, got a Samsung 320GB SATA drive now, so fast, and quiet.
@skinnepa Cheers to the Seagates, me too! I've been very happy with my Seagate purchases after all the trouble I went through with Western Digital and even one Samsung ShitPoint is giving me troubles. You should see this Seagate in the Dell Dimension fly. Holy fucking cow, you could mistake it for a SSD. Opens programs in 1-3 seconds. It's phenomenal what those old Pentium 4s can do, the basic office stuff of course, with a good HD and some RAM and good old Windows XP.
@StapledNote Thank fucking god! Someone who isn't a Western Digital thumper. I had 3 fucking Western Digitals fail on me bro, 2 externals, one internal, 2 3.5", 1 2.5". Fuck them! In the 90s they were great, but not for me now though. I don't want to hear about WD myself anymore, I almost lost my data! I also like both Seagate and Hitachi. Sadly, Hitachi's going to get gobbled by WD. Oh well, looks like it's Seagate then, no way I'm getting Samsung. Cheers.
It is impossible for your drive to have 10,000 hours on it already if you bought this drive as a replacement to the one in the video.. you posted this video Ocotober 20, 2007, less then a year ago. There are roughly only 8,700 hours in a year. My Seagate has been going 24/7 since mid 2002 in a file server. It has only been powered down 21 times according to the S.M.A.R.T. data.
mine won't even fricken spin up! but the heads and disk platters are fine. piece of sh1t. exact same drive too.
