I can't believe it's been more than four years now. Springfield looks unrecognizable in this video; almost hard to believe it went back to normal so quickly. This video really refreshed my memory... I forgot how bad it was. It's crazy how time flies.
ICE STORM SUCKEDDDDD! lol i hope springfield has another. i dont wanna live in my aunts house another 3 days ty goodness i wont be here for 10 days of dec lol
That's Markwood Apartments. haha I lived there att. got an extra week off for Christmas break at MSU, but that week sucked. no power, the apartment felt like a cave. there are two buildings in the complex, and the other had power because a tree didn't fall on their generator.
I experienced that. got an extra week off for Christmas break at MSU, but that week sucked. no power, my apartment felt like a cave. there were two buildings in the complex, and the other building had power because a tree didn't fall on their generator.
I remember this, we had one generator and we used it for the little electric heaters XD all of our fridge and frozen items we set outside on our porch as it was cold enough, at night my whole family would sleep on air mattresses together to keep war XD I remember in school, there was only one hall with electricity and we watched a movie aah the memories :)
one of the things I noticed the most with the ice storm was that it was quiet except for the trees busting and stuff. I think it was mostly because people weren't driving around that much.
i remeber this like it was yester day the night it all stated u could just here a crack crack then a crash all night it when on for like a week or to we got lucky cuz we got one of the last genorators in town at grizzlies me and my brother were going around town wit a chainsaw helping ppl we cut some massive trees down at the time i went to pipkin jr highi will alwayz remember this thnx man
sadly people are talking and hearing that springfield is supposed to be the same if not worse this year and i find it funny that people are leaving comments on all these videos saying "it was worse her where i live than in springfield" when it was saying on every news channel springfield got hit the worst just some places more than others
That was hell, No power for 2 weeks. I feel and hurt myself really bad on my way to work. The entire city smelled because nobody could take a warm shower.
That ice storm was terrible, but it was interesting to see. After I moved away from SGF - we're starting to see similar, if not just as bad storms out here on the east coast.
I live like in between willard and springfield and man... was that a pain. a tree in my back yard slit in three and and fell on my back porch. we cut it down a few days later. i lost power for about a day
This was a very bad couple of weeks, but it showed the strength of Springfield pulling together as one to clean the mess up. I remember after the storm and everything thawed, when you would go down streets and there would be 6 ft. of debris on the sides of the road. Rough time.
i fill sorry for u what youve lost in the ice storm i live in republi next to u guys we lost alot 2 the transformers were alsome how the made the whole sky blue
wow That's rlly crazy, my hometown is in Missouri, im stationed in Guam, its about 90 degrees now, I miss good ol' missouri. Hope everyoone back in the states stays warm, good luck.
I am a lineman from Colorado that spent 3 weeks in Springfield restoring power after this ice storm. Never seen ice storms like this one. Long hours GREAT money though.
Right on, yeah I grew up in Alaska and we don't get ice storms. It either snows or it rains, none of this freezing rain business. It was pretty amazing.
I'll never forget the cracking an sizzling sound of trees literally exploding from the sheer weight of ice for days after the freeze...tree care companies are still living off that storm. Thanks for posting! Great vid.
Feezing rain is so awesome to witness on that scale, but also extremely damaging. It's still one of my favorite extreme forms of weather. Great video.
haha yeah I don't even know what station that was. I usually listen to my mp3 player but my friend wasn't diggin my tunes so we just put it on some random station. Good times :)
Wow, thats crazy I live in springfield but I am currently in Alaska for the winter, and while there is more snow here, the ice never get as bad as that.
Hey Im Summer, and im origanlly from springfield. Im currently living in Germany cuase my husband is in the US Army. Thanks for making this video to show the Devistation Springfield is in. it makes me feel good to see my home town that i love so much and miss more then anything. but its upsetting to see what everyone is having to go threw. im just glad that all my family is safe and everyone is finally getting thier power back! hope you guys are doin better!
Holy crap! I head all about this storm on the national news (I'm in East TN) but they never showed any footage like that. I had no clue it was so bad.
Great video coverage. i used to live in Springfield when I was dispatching for Prime. It's awful to see all those old trees broken down. Hope the power loss didn't affect you. BTW you really don't seem like the type to be rollin' with Kenny Rogers playing on the radio?
haha you're totally right. I don't listen to country music but my friend who was with me couldn't handle my music so she just flipped it to something she could stomach. I was actually kind of embarrassed of the music that was playing in the background :)
Man!! It's amazing that something that looks so cool, could be that destructive. I was there. I am a lineman from NJ, and I went there to help restore power. I hope everyone is ok now.
Great footage. You guys got quite a bit of damage. I hope your clean up is quick and plainless. We made it through just fine over here, with very little damage.
Yeah, there are a lot of trees to clear! There's alot of people making extra cash doing that. I might make a little extra cash doing it myself :) Gotta be really careful though because there's some tricky tree removal situations with trees and limbs resting right on the power lines themselves.
I came up from purdy MO, and it looked even worse than sprinfield, we went along a backroad where the city workers hadn't been yet and saw of the damage with powerlines and telephone lines and parts of broken poles, broken under the wait of the wires that were sagging to the ground and laying in the road :P.
Wow. The damage reminds me of Hurricane Wilma which hit my neighborhood, Fort Lauderdale, last October. Took several months to clean up all the trees.
I have some family in Marshfield and have been in touch with them several times a day through this whole thing. Hearing them describe it is one thing, but watching your video really puts you there.
The part at the end where you're slowly driving along looking around and listening to that mellow music is really surreal.
it was on my sis bday we were at pizza inn when the lights flickerd
