Everybody's postings are missing the important point of the film.
Andre is educated, successful, supportive, and completely full of life.
The sequence of Andre's stories culminate to a Satantic cultist encounter.
Andre is actually Death stalking Shawn.
By endlessly talking to get Shawn to counter intuitively realize his life and how he had been detrimental to people's lives and that it's coming to an end.
@captainjapan101 Captain - never heard that interpretation before and MDWA is one of my favorite films. Did you get that from somewhere - a critic? Or think it up? Ken
@PopsDizzy And don't forget not only do you get the never before seen 30 hrs there is also blooper reel, behind the scenes footage and two hour documentary with the make up artist in the 4 disc EXTENDED EDITON DVD
The Guy telling the story was doing alot of Peyote and Acid While in a forest with other people doing alot of Acid and Peyote.....It's a trip story....The End.... Creative...but still seemed kinda pointless... ACID it's Fun
I feel as if this movie could have used one or two less singing robot stripper scenes, they were getting in the way of the dinosaurs in space sideplot.
Such a great film. Americans on the whole never got into it because it is all dialogue, and requires thought, unlike the action films, etc. that get all the attenion and make all the money. I'm pleasantly surprised that someone is bringing it back out.
I am an American, actually a New Yorker, and even I have a lot of hate towards America. But as I have traveled the world I have encountered that the hate towards the USA comes from jealousy and the opinion that with so much power, the responsibility of having it has been taken for granted by the people. Which is true. We are considered dumb(majority of Americans can only speak one language), fat(world's most overweight nation), religious zealots(the whole insane south) and war mongers. All true.
I'm not a big fan of America either, but I don't know if only speaking one language can make a person dumb.
I only speak English because learning another isn't exactly practical at the moment. If I ever get the time to travel abroad, then obviously I am going to brush up on that particular language. I'm not going to expect them to conform to my standards.
@robotwookie exactly, america knows good though, our movies are popular worldwide, our degree of freedom over the years has allowed us to experiment and see things much differently and more idealized than any other country. that' is why our cinema is so popular.

The sunset limited by Cormac McCarthy reminds me of this. Albeit a lot darker

Funny thing is, I have the Criterion edition, and it doesn't have this trailer on it. Unless it's hidden in an easter egg that I haven't found.

I had to watch and review this movie for a film production class. I think I wrote "to gay dudes eating dinner and talking non-stop for 2 hours"

I really liked the shootout at the end where the waiter with the crazy eyebrows blows away the SWAT guys with the minigun.

I'm so sick of this anti-American nonsense at every turn. A great deal of American cinema-goers prefer a film like this.. Cheers

@surfwaxafghani The modern school of acting comes from European refugees and expats (Ute Hagen, Strasberg, et al).
Many of the great directors from America's "golden age" were also European refugees--Cortez, Lubitsch, Lang, etc.
