This mix absolutely is not nice to listen to. I prefer Donna Summers version, that one has much more emotion and expression, both the singing and the music itself. In this mix Donna sounds horrible though. Both versions have to stay separate from each other, if so they r both ok :P
It's this kind of response that I expect to get. The ones who say the enjoy it... well, they kinda throw me. I mean, it's nice, but I have to wonder... But thank you very much for not liking it and being nice about it.
Thanks. Actually, watching/hearing this made me curious about "Strawberry Fields Forever". I ended up watching the video for it and reading about its history on Wikipedia. I do find it unsettling to listen to it, but it's also highly intriguing to think about all that went into it.
Funny you should say that, because Georgio Moroder actually wrote the song to Frida. When it was decided that she should record a album, the record-company invited songwriters all around the world to write a song that fitted her voice.
Love this!! And love this song! Thank you. Donna's vocal made this performance tolerable. It really was a cool touch. Donna has an amazing way of making a song sound timeless. I like Frida's version, but you can tell its a cheesy 70's production, musically and vocally. Donna's version still sounds fresh today.
Speaking from someone who has played drums for 14 years and percussion for 28 years, Donna's version lacked the real presence of a bass guitar, which I know is not Donna's fault. Donna's delivery was wonderful. But Frida benefitted from Phil Collins' expertise at the controls and the drums. Frida's version is not a '70s production, she recorded her version in the spring of '82. Phil was really riding a wave then. Everything he touched then seemed to turn to gold. Thanks for the comment!
Not to worry Sharon, I personally think Frida's version was the far better version of the two. I really like Donna Summer's music, but the songs that really made her are what stick out. They say that the bagpipes are electronically produced, but they sound real enough. Donna's version just chugs along with no real purpose, while Frida's is loaded with true heartfelt feelings...listen to me, I think I'm a critic!
I think I'm going to take this down. I think it sounds terrible. I love this song, but the more I hear it the more I hate how it turned out. Don't think I hate you if I remove it. Think of it as... a favor.
If you can't get enough (and I get the feeling you can), I have a homemade (not made by me) remix of Frida & Donna together available as a free download on my "Fridalicious" Yahoo! group. It's... interesting.
the bagpipe solo was the best part

Christ! That was disturbing. Felt like an acid trip.
I was reminded of the end of the Beatles' "Strawberry Fields". Discordant. Unsettling.

That would be the response that I would expect, and I don't think any less of you for feeling that way. Thanks so much for the comment!!!

What a duet The queen of disco and one of the queens of pop. Thanks for the music. Both are icons of the music world.

This isn't a real studio recording, I was just goofing around with both Frida's and Donna's versions. So you can relax, it's OK.
