ce film est une pure merveille cette histoire est si triste vivre comme ça et finir ainsi c trop triste car en soi ce devait ¨être une experience magnifique
i truly respect chris and he and i are a lot a like i spent 5 years hitchhiking canada and have spent 3 months in the wild aka no mans land ultimate freedom i made some travel videos check em out on my page
Chris McCandless dared to be true .... you can't find life with out pain .... not even Christ's life was with out pain ... but I believe you can honor life and know enlightment.
I believe Chris at least chased enlightment, if he didn't revel in it.
Love the song, thought the movie was great. The truth is however, that Charles (Alex) basically committed suicide. He refused to take a compass or updated map, had he done so, he would have know there was a bridge 1/4 of a mile up the river from where he was trying to cross. Since he didn't prepare and just took off with no training, he created his own downfall. I'm not knocking the guy, it takes balls to do that, but it's a great reminder to always come prepared.
@JeremyV1 On the contrary, Chris was fairly experienced at living in the wilderness. I don't think that you can say that it's suicidal to want to escape societal trappings. People survived for thousands of years without compasses or updated maps.
@Moosearecool I'm not saying people can't live without compasses or updated maps, I'm saying Chris could have lived the life he wanted without putting himself in danger.
"The most charitable view among McCandless's detractors is that he was somewhat lacking in basic common sense, venturing into a wilderness area on his own without adequate planning, preparation, and supplies was almost guaranteed to end in disaster."
When you consider McCandless from my perspective, you quickly see that what he did wasnt even particularly daring, just stupid, tragic, and inconsiderate. First off, he spent very little time learning how to actually live in the wild. He arrived at the Stampede Trail without even a map of the area. If he [had] had a good map he could have walked out of his predicament [...] Essentially, Chris McCandless committed suicide."
B. While I appreciate this is a rather old conversation, you are somewhat missing the point.
Unfortuately, all the people who reply with something like this, and like that Ranger - have missed the point. It was about doing something...different... something that cannot be explained unless you feel it when you watch this film.
That feeling of longing that fills you when you watch it - if you dont feel it, you can't understand it.

@Moosearecool Also, from Wikipedia:
"Park Ranger Peter Christian
When you consider McCandless from my perspective, you quickly see that what he did wasnt even particularly daring, just stupid, tragic, and inconsiderate. In the book, Krakauer comes up with two chapters on why he does not believe McCandless was suicidal.
