Go tp walmart and buy yourself a set of metric allen sockets so you can eliminate tearing your knuckles. I used to have a 74 KAWASAKI Z1 years ago with big Megacycle cams and had to use 'shim under' because of valve profile/ramp so i had to remove cams for adjustment, shim on top with the big cams would sometimes cause the shim to pop out and it happened to me destroying the head and cam lobe, thats when i switched to shim under, i missed 2nd gear + my leg was full of oil, that was 30 years ago.
@EASTWOODO4 The trans failed from a worn shift engagement dog which finally snapped off. I never dropped anything into the engine. Also, the washers you mentioned are between the valve cover and bolt head... they are on the outside and I always counted them on removal and reinstall.
The shift dogs wear over time from poor shifting habits. In this case, it was due to the multiple prior owners and neglectful maintenance by them. Properly maintained a Katana will last a very long time.
Hey m8 one question i checked my valves and one of them was so tight then i couldent get a 0,05 feel gauge in there..so should i say the Current Valve clearance on that valve is 0,03mm or just 0,00?
@vallisss On a threaded screw adjuster like you find on these motors it doesn't matter what clearance you find, just that you adjust it to being within spec when you're done.
If you are adjusting a shim/bucket valve setup then you need to know your starting clearance... in that case I would remove a small shim then re-measure and start from there. Then you will have a good starting measurement and know which way to adjust and how much.
Why adjust your valves? I used to do the same thing. Just add this new Cerma ceramic treatment. Eliminate friction, and stop piddling with valve adjustments.
Isn't 350 000 psi. of protection good enough? And why change oil? Just install a bypass filter, or use a drill-driven pump to run a makeshift bypass filter. Amsoil oil can last for 300 000 mi. if you keep with the bypass regimen. Ceramic bearings last 30 yrs., right?
hello. wanted to do a consultation on an engine part of the YFZ ... is that I also I have a YFZ. was checking the valves and the exhaust shaft has a ball almost in the Sentra over the shaft ... the question is that I have is what if the ball is fixed or have any movement?

ok thanks man.i just bought a 1997 bandit 1200 with 25000 miles on it and and was thinking about doing a valve adjustment.

you said this bike burned a gear 35 miles later and you were only doiong about 30 mph right?
that seems weird,do you think you might have dropped something into the motor?
i read somewhere that theres metal washers or somthing under each valve cover bolt that you have to be carful not to loose but you didnt mention it.
any advise would be nice.

We call these bikes "teapots" in the UK. The engine is also used in early GSXRs and in the Bandit series.

@dodgerider26 How about using 3/8" allen bits and a ratchet, not a allen key. No problems tearing up your hands. Smarter not harder...
