The slow meanderings of Robin's guitar and James' deep soulful voice on this song and Daydream have always been two of my favorite's...especially live!
Hoegis I hear what your saying...RT gets to your limbic system and it wires into the pleasure center without drugs. I always loved RT's playing. When I heard Whisky Train on Old Salty Dog, an album from Procol Harum, I remember asking my girlfriend who is that playing guitar. Since then I have a RT Greatest Hits CD in permanent rotation in my car.
I recall this tour in Kalamazoo, March 1975 -- each were captivating individually, mesmerizing as a unit. How lucky I was! Hey youngsters, this video captures historic musicianship with soul.
@drmwm1 I seen RT at Wings stadium 3 times back in the 70s...last time was the in city dreams tour...most awesome guitar band I seen....and I seen most of the big bands of the 70s.
Love love love the combo of Robin and James. James was such a natural soul singer.....Didn't need much a stage show- the voice spoke for itself. I miss him everyday.
I saw them in 1977 inpgh and they blew me away. We saw about everybody going thru the Burg in those days, and the only other show that compared was Bob Seger touring Live Bullet
This was THE Trower concert. I tried to go but couldnt get it together. I saw them next time they came to Winterland. It was awesome but not like this.
@v6n4m0d4 Im from New Orleans and seen RT there a couple of times in the 70's. One of the best all time shows I've ever seen. T he warehouse hosted the greatest bands in the world. Check out black strat . c o m and take a trip down memory lane. I forgot all about RT and now rediscovered him all over again. What a class act and a hall of famer if there ever was one.
This song was probably left over from the Jude project, as Frankie Miller co-wrote it, and I could definitely see how he would have sung it, too. (Dewar was in the band, too). Great early Trower and a taste of what Jude might have been like, (as it's quite different from the other tracks on Twice Removed). They tell me Mitch Mitchell was offered the drum job at one point (and turned it down), but Bill Lordan does wonderfully here.
@hooptyhee1 And let's not forget Reg Isidore was there at the beginning on drums for 2 albums. Bill does do well here and always did every time I saw this lineup.
@hooptyhee1 yes frankie miller did sing lead on the original from Twice Removed. btw both miller and dewar are from Glasgow, must be something real soulful in that scottish water man!
Thank you to Rick Devine for having me take a deeper look into Mr. Trower's and Mr. Dewar's work. This is the gem I found and I still hold dear to this day. So soulful. What an absolutely beautiful love song. "Set me free, babe, or tie the bow" - that is the way life should be - commit or set it free for someone else to enjoy.
Thanks for posting this, waited 35 years to see this video. I was 16 years old and at winterland to watch schenker (UFO) Force it album, Journey, Montrose tour. This was playing thru the PA system and on the video monitors above the stage. All of a sudden the most kickass feedback I ever heard started, UFO playing Let it Roll and the gig started. Always wished I had seen the rest of the Trower stuff, and here it is on "Youtube". Thanks! P.S. Trower, the best 3 piece band of all time!!!
Yeah..Ha-ha-ha . . . Not quite as bad as the pain of watching the Farewell Cream film ofcourse; a visual smorgasbord of stupid camera tricks interspersed with super zoom in close ups of Jack Bruce nostrils. OH THE PAIN OF IT ALL.
Nothing controversial here, just thought I’d introduce to any blues fans out there what I’ve often considered one of the more underestimated and ignored rock/blues trios in the canon. In its prime “The Robin Trower Band” consisted of Trower himself on guitar, Bill Lordan on percussion and the incomparable James Dewar... on bass and vocals. The attached (“I Can’t Wait Much Longer”) is a long time favorite. Enjoy.

You said it brutha. I posted the same months ago, but, I'm blessed that I was at this tour (in Detroit) and THIS tune really changed my life. I was mesmerized by this tune. Sweet sad ballad, and tasteful powerful playing by the group. Real magic here.
First time I saw Robin was at 'Winterland' in San Francisco in 75-or 76 - it may have been this show because I remember the shirt he had on....Also Dewars bass with the white pickguard...Great stuff...
Thanks for re- posting the San Francisco 1975 clips, these are the best I ever seen of Robin Trower, the black and white clips are absolute great, thanks again.
Thanks SO much for posting this! Fantastic performance!
