@Kjarrell218 Umm, I don't know. The delegates @ the '76 Miss Universe contest were absolutely stunning. Drop dead gorgeous. Look @ the video. USA can't always make the semi-finals. Nor shoud they. Barbara was a capable American rep, but she simply didn't make the cut. She was an outstanding "Miss USA," however. For good measure, she was one part of a banner year for Minnesota when both she & Dorothy Benham of Edina were crowned "Miss USA" and "Miss America" in May & Sep of 1976.

i DISLIKE VERY MUCH how she is the most beautiful miss usa, YET she is the first miss usa they chose not to get in the semi finals, with many other undeserving miss usas who reached the semi finals!

i agree. hosts were more elegant, better-spoken, and more classy. trumps' shows today are not much better than vh1 shows like rock of love and flava flave....even the contestants look like they could be in either one: fake looks and all.

i must rather watch the classic pageants here i dont even watch the USA or UNIVERSE pageants anymore, stopped watching them in 2000, when they went modern and stopped with the elegance and class the pageants display here, the contestants looked more refined as now they look like skanks

@redandpink21 I agree with you as I myself don't want the two shows anymore either. I think if they were to bring back some of the traditions that they would be surprised to see the ratings go up.

Those were the days when the ladies were just overwhelmed and honored to be selected. You just don't usually see reactions like that anymore..they seemed pleasantly piqued, and that's it.

FOR ME bARBARA was an excellent miss usa, if she did not make semifinalist in miss universe 1976 means nothing, because there have been miss usas that did not deserve to be semifinalists during miss universe history.

Barbara Peterson will always be my favorite Miss USA (Ok the fact shes from MN may have something to do with it, but she is beautiful). Does anyone REALLY think that every Miss USA till1975 deserved to be in the top 15? Many of them got in due to sash alone. 1976 was just to show that USA doesn't always make it and that "we are fair". Bad way to make an example out of the wrong person. There are a lot of years since 1976 where we did not deserve a top 15 spot as well.

i agree with you, for me Summer miss usa 1975, Barbara miss usa 1976, Debora 1970, Sue ann Downe 1965, miss u.s.a 2003 they were gorgeous miss u.s.a. but the best miss universe of the united states was SYLVIA HITSKOCH MISS UNIVERSE 1967,

looking at the crop of contestants in 1976 Barbara Peterson should've made it. Also in Barbara wore her years very well and she still look good to date.

I remember wanting Miss Louisiana to win!! Miss Minnesota was flat-chested!! No wonder she became the first Miss USA NOT to make the semi finals at the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant.

miss universe 1976 Rina messinger is one of the miss universes that i love, she was so beautiful, she is from Israel, i have the video i got it one year ago, i was 12 years old when she won
