Why is this happening... how can you dislike this? I Mean, how can you don 't like this... even if you don 't listen to this type of music... this song is writen in Heaven...
THIS SONG IS SO FUUUCKKING AWESOME I JUST HAVE TO SING ALONG WITH IT "MAY YOU NEVER BE BROKEN AGAIN YEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH YEEEEAH" i had to get that out :)
@jakecornett12 Yeah I was talkin about the lyrics not the first 30 seconds of the song. Yeah the famous guitar lick was ripped from a band called spirit. Just about everyone knows that. Page wrote the song stairway to heaven. That was my point. you said stairway is not a zep song...I never get on my account so I just now saw your comment haha but yeahhhhh still makes me laugh lol
@coverman101 yeah i know, this is the best band i know, and i'm not just saying that because their my favorite band, each of them are extremely tallented at what they do.
To all you naysayers that say this isn't the greatest guitar solo of all time: just remember that difficulty does not always equal greatness. It may not be the most complex solo ever, but it is full of heart and passion, which is what Alter Bridge is all about. Who cares about some stupid poll that probably isn't correct, this solo will always be with me.
@iamdabomb18 It's a good solo, but it's not the best. I still think it's either Sweet Child O' Mine or All Along the Watchtower (Hendrix cover). It is, however, a great guitar song.
@wsox1705 i was expecting you to say November Rain...but still you can't argue about solos as you do (and you shouldn't) with guitar players... the style just can't be discussed.
I could tell you Master of Puppets slow solo it's brilliantly written and the fast one is absolute kirk crap. Unfortunately. But that was what song was asking right there.

@anonymouslolxD Pretty much their entire discography. =) The new ABIII is awesome! Isolation, Words Darker than their Wings, Slip into the Void are my favs. (I think) not sure... Well it's a hard call... \m/ \m/
@xxTheTriNiTy3 Yeah man, I'm really disappointed. Both nominated Petrucci's solos are mind-blowing, just, jaw-dropping and awe-inspiring! This is a nice solo too, but, come on, no match to a single phrase in any of JP's.
@xxTheTriNiTy3 I have. In fact, I have heard every solo that Petrucci has put out. From the slow, melancholic ones in "Repentance" to the blinding solos in songs like "As I Am" or "Lie", even the exaggerated 12 minute solos at the end of live songs like in "To Live Forever" in 1992. And also his solo stuff like "Black Ice" with Rudess or "Damage Control". This solo just speaks volumes though, it definitely deserves the praise it receives.
@xxTheTriNiTy3 While I do agree that Petrucci is very telented I don't see how you can argue with Jimi Hendrix for Greatest solo (although he is close to last right now) Listening to Voodoo Chile or Voodoo Child (Slight Return) Gives me chills everytime.
@xxTheTriNiTy3 My guess is because it mixes both slow and a faster paste solo. Though I am a big AB fan, and I love the solo, I don't think it should be the best, though I love the complete context of it.
i heard petrucci and while he is good, he was lacking alot..there was something kind of empty about it, it was like the solo was just put in it for the sake of it. but in this song, this solo has power, feeling and emotion, its put in there because it makes sence, because every note of it suits the song. and while the solo may not be as fast and complicated as "under a glass moon" it definitly is better and a more powerful performance.
what the fuck are you talking about? have you really heard Petrucci's solos? most fucking soulful shit ever, go find Octavarium Razor's Edge solo, I'm stupid if you won't shit yourself and cum buckets...
Stop making this guitarist so overrated, is true inspiration was Petrucci, nothing to compare here.
@MoarFunz wow, calm down. i'm not talking about petrucci in general, i'm comparing it to the song that got nominated and is going up against this song "under a glass moon"
and i'm not making this guitarist over rated, if anything i am making him under rated, this is not his best solo, this isnt even 1 tenth of his full potential.
@MoarFunz wow that was a little mean dont you think? i didnt see JohnMstudios say anything hurtful, so why you so upset =/ it really isnt necassary lol
@JohnMstudios i dont know man, this solo really doesnt do anything for me, petrucci solos really make me feel the music, try Lines in the sand solo or Hollow years solo live in budokan, in the name of god solo live in budokan, best of times solo, razors edge solo etc etc there are tons of such solos or if u want pure speed try stream of consciousness solo or as i am solo or constant motion solo, if u want technicality try under a glass moon solo, innocence faded solo, take the time solo etc
BEST FUCKING SOLO I HAVE. EVER HEARD. NO REALLY NOT JUST SAYING IT. I CANT STRESS ENOUGH HOW FUCKING AMAZING IT IS XD. im going to do a lyric vid of it. be sure to check my channel over the next few days pls :)
for the solo I highly recomend turning up the youtube volume fully, the computer volume fully and put on headphones and turn up the volume fully :) it sounds unbelievable :)
if you're a fan of alterbridge you should check out their interview on the show Tour Stop. you can find it on facebook. just search Tour Stop and then watch espiode 16!
How does he sing without taking a breath for soooo long? Listen at the end, where he sings- may you never be broken again. It's from where he sings 'again' at 6.28 to 6.59. That's roughly 31 seconds. Doesn't sound long- but you try it! :D
Men...arguing over a song is like arguing over wich colour is the best looking. Music is a result of feeling. It only matters if the listener feels empaty with the music. Any other vision over a song talking about music clichés, technique or similarity with other songs is just pretentious bullshit. BTW, first time listening this music and if fucken rocks.
This song is brilliant, so powerful...every part of it...the arrangement, the lyrics, the music, song structure...the double solo, the VOCALS. I listen to it with earphones and hear every single nuance, layer.. the passion and emotion so evident in Myles' voice. My eyes closed the entire time, I get lost in it. Chills. By the end, after its' haunting outro, I feel blissfully drained and just think..."wow" then have to take a moment to compose myself.
@ColieSwt1 try to listen with some pro headphones like the sennheiser hd880 or the akg k271 and i guarantee you that you won't regret. (If you want to experience the full range of frequencies on the song, particularly the low ones, try a 12'' speaker.)
one thing you can expect: there's perfection everywhere.
This is one of the few metal songs i know where i feel that perfection was achieved. It makes me so happy =D.This is one of the few songs where i stop existing for (in this case) 8 minutes.True beauty. Nothin negative i can say about this song.
When someone very close to me died in my arms, I fell into a state of depression and sadness that I had a hard recovering from. I was able to identify with this extremely well, and it really helped me rise up from that rut. Thank you Alter Bridge. Thank you for creating one of the most beautiful pieces of art I've ever heard. May its message reach the ears of many people like me.
@warnock881 I'm sure u'll have no trouble naming 4 or 5 bands that play exactly this song but with a slightly different lyric and ofc another guy singing... It's a flawless recipe if u'r composing for the masses... It just pisses me off a little lol where's the desire to innovate, to be different, to explore their media and go cray.... but that's just me babbling xD
@shadzzz441791 well for starters not making music for little girls. Plastic sound effects placed on top of basic chords. No innovation, nothing different from whatever else we've already heard. There's no going wrong when you do things this simple... calm verse followed by a pseudo-cataclysmic break down followed by an unimaginative chorus, rinse rinse repeat. Soundgarden did this better 20 years ago. I'm not randomly hating btw, it's just my 2 cents... don't mean to insult.
@schism1986 Of course, you're not randomly hating.
Judging from your channel, you're just a lover of good music (thumbs for Bowie), like any of us here. And IF you're judging Alter Bridge from just this one song (which is actually dedicated to the singer's late friend), check out some of their other stuff, and if you still don't like, then so be it.
And... Wait, plastic effects? All I hear are dabs of reverb here and there and distortion where needed.
@shadzzz441791 well ok, i might be judging too soon, i heard a couple of songs when they came out and didn't like it too much. Now, years later, i stumbled upon hallelujah by Myles and i actually liked it and i thought if he's such a talented artist his band should be good enough.. but if u really think of it, he's wasting that amazing voice in a radio friendly band, that everyone can listen to with their closed minds and enjoy because they can't tell talent from being a sell out.
@schism1986 Uh... you do know that Alter Bridge is not mainstream "poprock," right? In the ABIII documentary, Mark Tremonti states that he did not want the album to be commercial at all (like Creed was), he said he wanted it to be strictly artistic, and all the members of Alter Bridge are always looking for new styles and ideas to incorporate into their music.
I'm not saying you don't know good music, it's that Alter Bridge is just not your cup of tea.
@shadzzz441791 well ok tremonti, whose skills i also respect, might have said that, but it doesnt mean that alter bridge isnt in fact mainstream poprock. The artist never knows the final product before it is completed, and in most cases the artist doesnt even fully know his work before he submits it to an audience. If you read authors that wrote about art theory you'll find that there are a lot of different ways to look at it but in the end they all agree that the final work of art only has true
meaning when submited to an audience as i said before... This is just to say that the fact that he said he didnt want to go commercial and wanted a strictly artistic band doesn't mean that much when the final product is the most radio friendly pop rock you can produce these days... About the plastic sounds i was talking about, it's not about the quantity of effects but the quality of the effects... they all sound like presets from a cheap pedal board. anyway, live and let live... enjoy ur metal.
@schism1986 Hm... well, Tremonti does use a digital wah... and ironically, the only song from Alter Bridge that ever made it on the radio is Isolation, which is actually considered their darkest and heaviest song. It had an interesting time signature during the third solo, I didn't think they would blend in progressive elements... Slip to the Void had an interesting song structure, verse, verse, breakdown, verse, chorus, breakdown, bridge w/solo, breakdown, chorus, outro... ah, I'm just thinking
@theTYTAN3 Lol i'm loaded of bull 'cause i actually know what i'm saying?I'm an Artistic Studies student, 3th year, i ACTUALLY STUDY music, amongst others things ofc. If you must know what i listen to so you can say you hate it and what i listen to is shit cause in your opinion they're better or worse than this or that, fine by me ;) my top 5 is something like David Bowie, NiN, Neurosis, Converge and Isis. Do i pass your test? rofl.
@schism1986 I like most of that music. Admittedly I prefer this. But you know what I still say your loaded with bull. Why? Simply because You watched this video and preceded to call what is in fact an awesome song a waste of talent.
Just because you don't like this song doesn't mean its a waste of talent it just means You don't like this kind of music. This song is brilliant. Its not trying to be different or unique(It is). Its trying to be a powerful emotion invoking song and it succeeds.
@theTYTAN3 Lol ok man, if you say so. I guess we should all turn on our radios and have some powerful emotions then. I'm loaded with bull and you're the one who can't separate personal taste and what's actually relevant. My point in that no matter how emotional you may get from hearing this, there's a ton of songs that are exactly the same. There's nothing new to this..If you don't call talented musicians, who play this generic music, a waste of talent then i rest my case.
@theTYTAN3 I actually agree with schism here to a degree. I still think it's a good song, but it's got quite a lot of cliché in it. The clean arpeggio chords, syncopated groove and rising melody, in that order is used so very often. It's not really a case of the chords or melodies have been ripped off of somewhere else, but rather the feel and emotional curve is the same as a lot of songs. Solo's kinda generic too. To be fair though, there's not many other ways you can do this kind of song.
Unfortunately, in a song like this, opinion has nothing to do with it. This song is neither god's work or the devil's work. It is above them both! Myles Kennedy's voice is so powerful, his voice is capable of forming a rift in common reality, destroying people's ability to make an opinion. Mark., and the rest of the band have this ability to do so in their respective powers. *salutes Alter Bridge* timeless.
172 people are definitely deaf...how the hell can anyone dislike it?!

I have never had a band I could identify myself with. Now I go along with Alter Bridge like there's no other.
Myles has got "The" Voice. Tremonti, well, he's got the best-sounding signature guitar in the world - that's a fact - and his technique...
if you think of Aerosmith, they have a dream-with intro in their song "Dream On", but with ALTER BRIDGE, it's in almost EVERY song!!!!
Its name - latin words for 'the other bridge', I think.

Simply put...pure genius.

May its message reach the ears of many people like me.

ahh just had the biggest scare of my life. the 'i just wanna live' song came on in an ad and i thought that was this, but its ok
warnock881 11 months ago
@warnock881 I'm sure u'll have no trouble naming 4 or 5 bands that play exactly this song but with a slightly different lyric and ofc another guy singing... It's a flawless recipe if u'r composing for the masses... It just pisses me off a little lol where's the desire to innovate, to be different, to explore their media and go cray.... but that's just me babbling xD
schism1986 11 months ago
@schism1986 this was actually intended for @shadzzz441791, i'm sorry @warnock881!

@schism1986 And Myles actually admitted to being the brainchild of Alter Bridge's song composition.

plastic shit. wasted talent.
schism1986 11 months ago
@schism1986 And how do you propose a way for them to put their talent to good use, sir?
shadzzz441791 11 months ago
@shadzzz441791 well for starters not making music for little girls. Plastic sound effects placed on top of basic chords. No innovation, nothing different from whatever else we've already heard. There's no going wrong when you do things this simple... calm verse followed by a pseudo-cataclysmic break down followed by an unimaginative chorus, rinse rinse repeat. Soundgarden did this better 20 years ago. I'm not randomly hating btw, it's just my 2 cents... don't mean to insult.
schism1986 11 months ago
@schism1986 Of course, you're not randomly hating.
Judging from your channel, you're just a lover of good music (thumbs for Bowie), like any of us here. And IF you're judging Alter Bridge from just this one song (which is actually dedicated to the singer's late friend), check out some of their other stuff, and if you still don't like, then so be it.
And... Wait, plastic effects? All I hear are dabs of reverb here and there and distortion where needed.
shadzzz441791 11 months ago
@shadzzz441791 well ok, i might be judging too soon, i heard a couple of songs when they came out and didn't like it too much. Now, years later, i stumbled upon hallelujah by Myles and i actually liked it and i thought if he's such a talented artist his band should be good enough.. but if u really think of it, he's wasting that amazing voice in a radio friendly band, that everyone can listen to with their closed minds and enjoy because they can't tell talent from being a sell out.
schism1986 11 months ago
@schism1986 Uh... you do know that Alter Bridge is not mainstream "poprock," right? In the ABIII documentary, Mark Tremonti states that he did not want the album to be commercial at all (like Creed was), he said he wanted it to be strictly artistic, and all the members of Alter Bridge are always looking for new styles and ideas to incorporate into their music.
I'm not saying you don't know good music, it's that Alter Bridge is just not your cup of tea.
shadzzz441791 11 months ago
@shadzzz441791 well ok tremonti, whose skills i also respect, might have said that, but it doesnt mean that alter bridge isnt in fact mainstream poprock. The artist never knows the final product before it is completed, and in most cases the artist doesnt even fully know his work before he submits it to an audience. If you read authors that wrote about art theory you'll find that there are a lot of different ways to look at it but in the end they all agree that the final work of art only has true
schism1986 11 months ago
meaning when submited to an audience as i said before... This is just to say that the fact that he said he didnt want to go commercial and wanted a strictly artistic band doesn't mean that much when the final product is the most radio friendly pop rock you can produce these days... About the plastic sounds i was talking about, it's not about the quantity of effects but the quality of the effects... they all sound like presets from a cheap pedal board. anyway, live and let live... enjoy ur metal.
schism1986 11 months ago
@schism1986 Hm... well, Tremonti does use a digital wah... and ironically, the only song from Alter Bridge that ever made it on the radio is Isolation, which is actually considered their darkest and heaviest song. It had an interesting time signature during the third solo, I didn't think they would blend in progressive elements... Slip to the Void had an interesting song structure, verse, verse, breakdown, verse, chorus, breakdown, bridge w/solo, breakdown, chorus, outro... ah, I'm just thinking
shadzzz441791 11 months ago
@schism1986 So what sort of music do you like? because it seems to me as if your loaded with bull.
theTYTAN3 11 months ago
@theTYTAN3 Lol i'm loaded of bull 'cause i actually know what i'm saying?I'm an Artistic Studies student, 3th year, i ACTUALLY STUDY music, amongst others things ofc. If you must know what i listen to so you can say you hate it and what i listen to is shit cause in your opinion they're better or worse than this or that, fine by me ;) my top 5 is something like David Bowie, NiN, Neurosis, Converge and Isis. Do i pass your test? rofl.
schism1986 11 months ago
@schism1986 I like most of that music. Admittedly I prefer this. But you know what I still say your loaded with bull. Why? Simply because You watched this video and preceded to call what is in fact an awesome song a waste of talent.
Just because you don't like this song doesn't mean its a waste of talent it just means You don't like this kind of music. This song is brilliant. Its not trying to be different or unique(It is). Its trying to be a powerful emotion invoking song and it succeeds.
theTYTAN3 11 months ago
@theTYTAN3 Lol ok man, if you say so. I guess we should all turn on our radios and have some powerful emotions then. I'm loaded with bull and you're the one who can't separate personal taste and what's actually relevant. My point in that no matter how emotional you may get from hearing this, there's a ton of songs that are exactly the same. There's nothing new to this..If you don't call talented musicians, who play this generic music, a waste of talent then i rest my case.
schism1986 11 months ago
@schism1986 Thats funny cuz I have never heard another song like this. Could you possibly refer me to one? (not joking I would seriously love that.)
theTYTAN3 11 months ago
