@RedApple2237 Allow to remind you that the Vocalise is written for a voice and an orchestra. You does not confuse, when opera arias shift on pair tones that the voice sounded better in the necessary range? If we play a transcription we choose that tonality which is good for a violoncello.
I really love this epic performance. It's funny that I play piano and my brother plays cello, and I heard my teacher and his teacher play this piece. :P I must say everything sounds even more epic in real life..I should visit more live performances..
I like this, but it seems a bit rushed to me. I'd slow it down a tad, use a wider and a slower vibrato. The long notes are sometimes being clipped short. With this piece the desitination IS the journey, you can't gain anyting by hurrying and much can be lost. The piano is too loud at times, too drowning out the cellist - almost like their competing with each other . . . An excellent cellist, but not my favorite interpretation by a long shot . . .
@Kendahlarama Yeah - there's a tendency for cellists to play this piece far too fast - Romantic music requires sensitivity! Just as you say, it's about the journey and not the final cadence. I think half the problem is they've miced up the piano under the lid, whereas you have you mic up a cello from about 4 feet away at a funny angle to avoid fouling the bow etc. So the piano sounds really fecking loud and the cello a bit washed out, even though the balance is technically right. Meh.
You did a wonderful job! I'm playing this with a teacher at my school, and this is really something to look up to. have you played Brahms Opus 38? I was going to attempt that duet as well.
Of course, the two sonatas by Brahms is compulsory pieces in the repertoire of any cellist and pianist. Let me a little advice: play as much music of Bach, then the third movement of Sonata op 38 was particularly filled and noble.
Rachmaninov - a Russian composer, who moved to live in America. In the Russian version of his name is written as Rachmaninov and Rachmaninoff in the U.S.. But it's the same great composer, conductor and pianist - Russian, American, our planet.
Damn, you are Russians, why do you play this piece in the WRONG KEY?!?
I don't understand why most people play it in e-minor although it was written in c#-minor by Rachmaninov himself!!!

I love this interpretation of Vocalise. It reminds me of how my brother used to play it. Shame he doesn't play much any more. :-(

I just started playing this piece today. And I do have a question to spark interest in the commentators. Is it Sergei Rachmaninoff or Rachmaninov?
