  • For only £40 a month along with the phone and tv in on package

    :D

  • In England I have an infinite limit at 5mb/s speed :D

  • I am sick of this usage meter bullshit! Between my sister watching videos of disney songs and my brother playing on Xbox Live, I can't even watch any videos without being scolded for using up the bandwidth. Yes, I use the internet alot, BUT SO DOES EVERYONE ELSE!

You can have my damn money, just let me browse in peace!

  • you are right!

  • Thank god Google and Apple would crush anyone who attempted that bullshit here.

  • Hi Andrew, Your a wonderful person for providing your knowledge freely to others who cannot afford the education in music that you have given to many people out of the goodness of your heart. I am ashamed of our fellow human beings for being such pond scum as to take advantage of those who cannot afford higher education or access to intellectual advancement. Thank you for being so kind and I wish I was Canadian so I could sign your petition. Truly your friend in honor.

  • I'm not even Canadian, but Andrew is right about this. Why screw up what is already a good deal? This proposition to up the rates is just pure, money-grabbing greed. It might as well be called exactly what it is. But, look around, this is the method of choice by way of finding some loophole by which to screw the people, take the little they have, and overcharge them for the rest. And, by the way,

Andrew is a genius and I am building a shrine in his honor!!! LOL

  • I live in Portugal and usually we dont have traffic limit and the internet is fast and cheap. I only pay 50 euros for 100MB internet, cable tv and phone with free calls to residences.

  • I agree with this, knowledge should be shared by everyone. Nearly every civilization past or present has shared ideas and has improved many facets of life because of it!

  • In Ireland we have 1 national broadband provider called 3, They sell data caps of 10, 15GB and only recently 30GB. They then charge .10c per MB used outside that data cap. These data caps do noting to stem piracy and even encourage it. Data allowances make it imposable to use legitimate services like netflex or downloading legal movies from iTunes as your monthly allowance can be used up in days, Should i buy a movie from iTunes thats 2GB or download a free torrent of the movie thats 700mb

  • 25 gb per month? LOL i use 3-4 times that amount per day! i pay $30/month

  • I agree with you Andrew, i think this should not be aloud, i don't know what id do without your videos, id be sad :( lol. Governments saying they are "giving" us free will to do things is a loud of crap, they give us something then they go and try and clamp is down and make it harder for us to use it like this? by trying to take advatage of people as much as possible just to make their pickets big, it's just selfish and completely wrong. It needs to be stopped.

  • The US has always allowed UBB on internet access, but unlimited plans are still the norm. I guess the diffference with Canada is that there is not much competition between ISPs?

  • Pay for what you use. We don't want to subsidize your rates because you like to download videos and games.

  • Well, people in Europe pay the same way.... for GB not just in Australia and Canada.

I always said that Canada is not different from any other countries.

  • Let's stop this

  • 25GB cap is ridiculous. There are a lot of legit services like Steam and Netflix that could make you reach that cap in a single day. I am fortunate enough to be on an ISP without a bandwidth cap, but if they were to ever start one I would definitely switch to another provider even if the other provider is slower

  • almost half million people signed the petition please sign if you did not yet here is the link.

    stopthemeter.ca

  • UBB is a scam. just another way to fake numbers so the ISP can make more money by robbing customers.

  • not to be concerned Andrew...there's an election in the air in Canada and Tony Clement will overrule any CRTC ruling that screws the Canadian consumer...it would be political suicide if Harper let the CRTC take control :)

  • jus in case, it might be good to downlaud alll the videos and things. get real player sp (still free i think ), or other kind of u0tube downloader program (check 4 virus & spyware btw, Anti-malware found a trojan in my utube dnloadr) downlaad all you can while it's free. get a couple usb thumbdrives if you need more space. Hopefully, cirilization will NOt de-volve.

  • Well done Andrew, very articulate. But I wish we could move away from the idea of ANY form of UBB being legitimate - there's a great rebuttal of the concept that the internet is like a utility and should be billed as such at openmedia.ca:

search for "Why the net is not like water or electricity"

  • This is a common issue in Australia, but it's getting a lot better nowadays considering most ISP companies aren't charging a fee per megabyte after getting capped. ($1 per mb, no joke!) Instead, our speeds will simply be limited to 64kb/s after going past our data allowance.

I used to pay $70AUD per month for my internet bills which only provided 20GB per month. Fortunately the ISP decided to give its users extra data and now my data allowance is 1GB lol.

    Good luck!

  • @Hoglund um... I think I got it. Sorry the whole fraction thing is confusing.-_-' But I do appreciate your help!^_^

  • I'm from Ireland...got a 10 gig limit and if I go over it costs me a euro per gig which works out at around $1.40 US right now (I think). I'm on a 3G network though. If I want DSL I've gotta get line rental which would cost 25 euro a month plus the cost of broadband which works out at best around 38 euro per month. You should count yourself lucky you don't live here Andrew.

  • it wont pass.:)

  • I miss you Andrew you look good =) <3

    Delia

  • Charging for gigabite usage is wrong at least charging that much is wrong! >:( btw what's a gigabite?

  • @swordpetals 1 byte is 8 bit. The size of files on your harddrive is shown in bytes.

When you get a connection, you'll usually see it listed in bit, such as 8 Mbit, 24 Mbit, or 100 Mbit. However, when you download things, the speed is usually shown in byte. This may result in confusion, because you will not be able to download at 8 MByte/s with a 8 Mbit connection. Your actual download speed is roughly 1/8 of your connection, i.e. a 8 Mbit connection lets you download at 1 MByte/s.

  • 1 gigabit would be 125 megabyte due to the byte being 1/8 of the bit.

I highly doubt that they will charge you per Gbit, because that would mean that you'd have to pay $2 for every 125 MByte that you download. This 720p video alone is roughly 52,2 MByte in size. You will probably have to pay per GByte instead.

  • Oh my! I realy hate that people would be this greedy and would want this

  • I very much disagree with the idea of putting an extra charge on internet usage. Its not good for freedom of speech and freedom of information. An additional fee on the internet is an additional fee on knowledge. That could only be a bad thing.

  • @MrOldMajor Corporatism*, not capitalism

  • I agree with you Andrew. The thought of putting a price on internet usage after a certain amount is just dumb! I really hope that doesnt happen.

  • It's quite sad to see Canada basically revert to the ISDN era, only worse.

  • i had no idea about this.

  • Andrew, what's going on in the world over the last 20 years is as a result of predatory capitalism and a minority of very wealthy cartels. From food & fuel price hikes and citizen repressions in Egypt, to media control, statistical data manipulation and slavery caused by the UK & US, the world is in an accelerated phase of creating huge inequlaity, control, media manipulation, poverty, hate, justified crimes and eventual acts of 'terrorism'.

This is the so called 'Free Market' scourge of greed

  • Even if we are not that of a poor country, we have one of the worst internet already. It's kinda funny to be charged even more, when most others don't and have better service than us. I live in Québec and Internet is already so overpriced, even compared to the rest of Canada. This kind of thing will make it impossible for me to use internet anymore. What about the schools, they also have to pay for this kind of thing. Lot's of stuffs will cost way much more because of this. It's OUTRAGEOUS!

  • At least it's not as bad as Egypt.

  • oh man... this is almost too ridiculously to actually believe !!

excuse my swearing, but: fucking greedy bastards !

  • i really don't think this is going to fly, i'm not too sure about what's available in Canada, i don't live there, but what about those who go to school online, or need to do research online? i do a lot of school research online, and i know i personally go over that small limit in less than a week, it would be difficult to be in school and have to deal with a gig cap like that. Just a thought. i enjoyed the video, it was presented very well, with good points.

  • Internet, Food, Shelter, Basic Energy Needs... Should be basic human rights.

  • You should wear a bucket on your head to symbolize them blinding you from information!

  • this has got to suck Lol... i bet a lot of people will be striking against it though =D

  • I totally agree with you. I used to live in Toronto and I clearly remember having to check my account bandwidth everyday, while constantly calculating how many GB I was using and how many I had left. Lots of times I had to just quit watching videos on YouTube for about a week because I was going to go over my limit. I even remember when Lady GaGa and Beyonce's video came out I couldn't watch it because it meant I had to stream hundreds of megabytes and I was saving them for MSN conversations.

  • you can't patent the sun
