I think if you watch the full video (available on google) you will see that New Zealand faced similar issues over implementation precisely because no-one in the existing system wanted MMP to pass, and didn't expect it to. Making the system more equitable, proportional and responsive should be the emphasis here.
Frankly, the current system allows considerable redisctricting (i.e. Amalgamation) without voter input.
