I think you'll find that it was a Derren Joke, Anyone who has been too one of his shows or knows anything about his work, should know that he can on occasion have a dark sense of humour. It was deliberate, because the the girl was so superstitious in the first place. Derren was trying to prove that there is no such thing as superstition, in other words there is no solid evidence to support it.

The final trick played on the audience again proved the fact that when Derren has a point to make, he makes sure that point hits home. And this time the point is : detach ourselves from irrational cause and effect linking. Brilliant.
I loved the last "Trick" on the viewers. Where they're left to assume maybe something about the show, or not winning the money may have contributed to Joey's death. But he was really just playing us for superstitious again. Funny guy.

This episode remembered me of the ambiance of movies such as "Saw" (two men stuck in a bathroom), or "Cube": People trapped in a room, trying to find a way to get out of it, with that trickery aspect. When by trying to figure out a complex solution you miss the simplest and easiest way to get it solved.
I love the look on David's face as the guy standing next to him is explaining how they did it. I swear he's thinking... 'No, that just doesn't make sense. I know I didn't see a pattern.'
As an actor he does have to memorise a lot... loved watching him do all those stupid things.

what people are missing out on this episode is tha derren did not really put the one million n stake.pay attention to the shots and camera angle, there werent any shots that showed the line written abt "walk out of the door and get a million" together with the contestant, the line is most likely to be written afterwards and edited in between, and then he added a camera shot on that box of cash placed abt 20m away from the room while they were in it just to add the effect.
Considering the hours and hours we've all watched of Derren predicting human behavior through illusion, misrepresentation and confusion I doubt he'd have to do that for something as simple and understandeble as that.
His tricks are no less impressive, but nevertheless tricks.
OMG!!! I nearly cried for that poor woman when she thought she had lost! I kinda worked out the heads/tails thing but couldn't work out how it was used for the system! Duh! Lol!

I think you might be right Dave, not saying I would have figured it out alone for sure, but the dynamics of "groupthink" and social psychology seem to often tend to make people dumber. Is there any word about whats coming next from Derren?
Since the white-walled room seems to lack an intriguing pattern, or brains place that sort of misconception in our minds that the entire room itself should be blank and that no one needs to worry about it...And rather, to become preoccupied with the "puzzles" at their feet. So an analytical brain would try and make sense out of what's on the ground since the walls/ceiling look like a standard white-colored room.
All those people who didn't get the joke didn't stay and watch an extra five seconds when the announcer explains it...

OMG!!! I nearly cried for that poor woman when she thought she had lost! I kinda worked out the heads/tails thing but couldn't work out how it was used for the system! Duh! Lol!

I think by myself, I would have figured it out. in a group situation trying to break free and look outside the box is much harder. Very interesting ep. though.

I think you might be right Dave, not saying I would have figured it out alone for sure, but the dynamics of "groupthink" and social psychology seem to often tend to make people dumber. Is there any word about whats coming next from Derren?

Since the white-walled room seems to lack an intriguing pattern, or brains place that sort of misconception in our minds that the entire room itself should be blank and that no one needs to worry about it...And rather, to become preoccupied with the "puzzles" at their feet. So an analytical brain would try and make sense out of what's on the ground since the walls/ceiling look like a standard white-colored room.
