danm man.. se la mwen te konn pase pou m al lekol wi.. sa se nan zon delmas 48 yo pou monte petion ville..mwen konn ti delmas mwen byen wi... men poukisa yap fout pase vye reageaton oo.. janm pa fout renmen panyol
If you go to Family club (Down Delmas), Karamel (Delmas 65/67), Crystal Palace/Millennium (Petionville), the DJ plays about 7 to 9 Compas songs and he plays everything else after, for about 20-30 Mns and goes back to the cycle of 7 to 9 compas song. Just like it used to be for caraibes Fm with Brega and Natalie after 4:00 PM, Planet Creole with Nicky mix or DJ fanfan, Radio éclair and so on
Compas or Konpa, is the base line in Haiti. We have some another original type of songs that we sometimes are a shame of playing in the living room or in a party. One of them is "Racine" . Only 37% of the Haitian population is proud of playing songs from: Racine mapou de Azor, Racine kanga de Wawa, Tokay, Ram... The 63% do not listen to Compas only, when they on the taxi, camionèt, on the streets, they listen to everything just lime me
This mixture of different culture and different languages helps our kids in learning foreign languages very quickly (It's very easy for any Haitian to speak more than 2 languages).
However. I think we Haitian listen to everything and also our local and international bands (Magnum band, System band, Tropicana, Zenglen, Djakout, T-vice, King Posse, Barikad crew, Brothers posse, Koudjay, Racine mapou de Azor and so on) they play everything like: Salsa, bachata, soca, country, bolero, soucousse (from Africa) Reggae, Hip hop....
Just to tell you that other nation has been listening to our compas and they love it too. The only problem is that they don't understand the lyrics but they really love the music
Yes, Konpa is very nice! The lyrics are beautiful, but leave me in the dust. I always have to get my english decoder going, she helps a lot. I enjoy Racine too. Its deep and makes a statement!
I'm always happy any time I go to BrandsMartUSA on US1 and 160 ST (FL), salesman from the following departments TV, Radio, MP3 player, camcorder and telephone, they all have been playing Haitian music, "bon konpa". And if you ask anyone from the telephone department about Sweet Micky or T-vice the will name all the musicians to you.
We Haitian we know good music and we love music. We listen to any type of song and we always try to teach a foreigner how to understand our songs. Not only the lead voice on top, also the JAZZ in the background.

And also, All compas bands play either bachata or meringue for carnival in Haiti. That is why they call their carnival songs "meringue carnavaleste"
