I'm making something like this, only a HOLY hell of a lot smaller. It's a self defensive version, close range, about as effective as mace or a Taser. capsaicin coated needles penetrate only the upper layer of skin, causing near instantaneous burning sensations. Does spit back a little, though.

The op needs to learn also that his method of loading rounds is robbing him of power. it takes power to pull the round out of that tape get up. What you want is a rod with a magnet attached that just barely is able to hold the round. unless you always plane to be horizontal then just extend your bolt to push the round in and hold it in place.

I was just thinking the 39 gamms isnt much weight, considereing the possibilities with an energy level of 2.65KJ. Then again I dont really know the spec of the lauch coil or switching system so cant judge it. I had good results with only 400J 2.65KJ should be amazing in terms of launch capacity.

you should build some big boost converters. they charge cap banks real fast and are fairly easy to build. You should also think of using optically gated V-switches, which would turn that  thing into a beast.

Close range it penetrates a dartboard so it's lethal (not to mention shock risk xD). However I think it's not that impressive when fire at a lets say 10 meter range. The guy seems to be about 1.5 to max 2 meter from that dartboard. For homemade still pretty cool though

This is a coilgun. A ball is the most inefficient possible ammo type, as it has the least interaction with the field created by the coil per given mass. One possible improvement to the darts would be a denser metal tip, and a hollowed out tail to move the center of mass forward of the center of pressure (you could get into some expensive alloys with the dense tip, but hollowing out the tail is not difficult, and is very effective).

Naja, Röhrchen sollten nur bei einer induktiven Coilgun was bringen, wobei da auch Vollmatrial genausoviel bringen sollte.

Bei so ner ferromagentischen bedeutet mehr Material doch auch dass der Kram später in die Sättigung geht. Auch würde ich nicht an Masse sparen, meine Messungen haben gezeigt, dass (ferromagnetische!) CGs generell besser mit schweren Projektilen laufen, also die selben Geschwindigkeiten erreichen nur mit mehr Masse->mehr E, Effizienz

Runde Hohlkörper haben die Eigenschaft sich im Flug auch ohne Drall selbstständig zu stabilisieren.(gibt da so eine Gefängnswaffe).

Bin gerade bei einem Versuchsaufbau bei dem ich eine Spule 30x4 cm 16.000 Windungen mit 4 Kondis versorge. Lade sie parallel bei 400V und schließe sie in Reihe (1.6KV) über sie Spule kurz. Mal schaun was raus kommt :)

16k wdg sind viel zu viel, der Puls wird viel zu lang, ich hab bei dem teil im Vid 150-160 wdg bei der ersten Stage mit 2mm Draht.

An den Projektilen sind einfach so Aluringe, die die in Position halten.

Das ist in Wirklichkeit sehr einfach, man macht einfach ne Lichtschranke oder Kontakte in den Lauf, die das Projektil erfassen und den Impuls auslösen.

Der Puls darf nur so lange dauern, bis das Projektil an der Spulkenmitte angelangt ist, ab dann wird wieder gebremst ;)

Wieso willst du auch den Puls löschen, sorge dafür, dass die Kondensatoren zur Spulenmitte einfach leer sind (Kapazität, Spannung, Induktivität, Widerstand anpassen) und benutz Thyristoren, dann hast du deutlich weniger Sorgen.

No, its a old 400V->230V transformer.

The caps only have 350V, so theres no need for a 2,3 kV transformer.

The charging resistor is too big so it takes longer than it could charge.
