  • awful love tori but this is so bad its good

  • Y Kant Tori Read is to Tori Amos what Mommie Dearest is to Faye Dunaway.

  • Her abs look fabulous....i love shes randomly on an exercise bike for like a split second

  • ...doubt she approached her music with the same level of scrutiny as she does not. And partially it's the record company's fault, but partiallly it's where she was as an artist at the time.......she doesn't have alot of clarity or direction, and she seems to be quite conscious of it too.

  • It's interesting how some elements of Tori's classic style can already be seen. The sexual emphasis she places on "merchandise", the notion of wanting to express something but having it "lost inside". But honestly, I don't think she had developed her own voice as a artist yet. It is both a blessing and a curse that she was so well versed in other people's music, she had SO much piano bar experience at this point....she was always playing for other people's taste....i doubt she....

  • I kinda love this.

  • Christ, could she rip off Kate Bush's The Big Sky any harder?

  • @littleblackpistol I only saw Kate's video for THe Big Sky today. I'm shocked. It's so blatant it's shameful

  • @jnsash003 I agree it's shameful. I'm embarrassed now to say I was ever a fan of Tori, now that I see what a phony she is.

  • @leschatsmusicale You are such a twat. Many singers and actors have had to settle for a material they don't relate to when beginning their careers.

Nowadays one has Idol's, X Factor and and other crap which seemingly allows one to become famous overnight, but before it was totally the record and studio executives show. Did not do what you were told even once and you got ousted.

  • @BoraBoraSharkBoy the record execs didn't write this song, she did

  • @leschatsmusicale Can't you moron realize that only perhaps 10% of what is published on a record is from the artist her/himself? Rest of it is ruled by producers. Why can't you just get lost anyways? Who needs you? I, or any truel Tori-fan, sure don't. There must be other channels for you to ease off the burden of your miserable failure of life, isn't there?

  • @BoraBoraSharkBoy apparently you do need me as a target for your hateful attitude. otherwise you'd just accept people have different opinions and let it go. anyway, if you want me to "get lost" why are you replying to my comments? it's like that commercial where the girl calls her boyfriend to tell him she's giving him the silent treatment. stupid.

  • @littleblackpistol lol THANK you.I said so to friends before and they were like ''ahhh no I don't hear that comparison'' with a confused look on their face. Phew i'm so glad others see it

  • @littleblackpistol YES! I was started humming "The Big Sky" during this song! Oh Tori! why! lol.

  • I love that hair.

  • this is as much a part of "who she is" as anything that came after. yes it looks like she's playing a part and trying too hard but so do the other multitude of characters she has created over the years. this is after all someone who talks about "Tori" in the third person. which one is the real person inside? I honestly doubt even she knows anymore.

  • I don't care what anybody says. This song smokes. I love it.

  • This song isn't that bad, in fact i kinda like it. I'm just glad that it failed, who knows if the Tori we know and love would have ever existed if it didn't.

  • LOLOLOLOL I'M CRYING OH TORI LOLOLOLOLOL

  • Well I know Tori and everyone else hates this album, but I like this song :) This is a great song, don't understand why it flopped so badly. I've definitely seen much worse...

  • Y Kant Tori get her producer to let her play the piano and not a synthesizer? Pianos were only cool to look at then and not cool enough to record - it was all about the synthesizers. - surprised they didn't put a keytar in the background.

  • @StrongHeartLives actually the producer says that she had a very clear idea of what she wanted the album to be... guess it just wasn't a very good idea yet.

  • I think this is actually quite ok. In my opinion, it simply shows how versatile Tori is as an artist.

  • This is hideous. Thank god she found her way with Little Earthaquakes. LOL

  • Oh, this brings me so much pleasure when I show it to pretentious hipsters who idolize Tori... and say she's so "authentic" "honest", "real" and "uncompromising"...

  • @mariazo

First of all, hipsters usually hate her, so I don't know what you're talking about

But anyway, what does "honest" or "authentic" sound like? Such words are meaningless when it comes to one's aesthetic preferences. If you like something, do you really stop and say, "well, is it authentic? if not i, then i shouldn't like it"? I like Tori because of the power and originality of what she expresses.....if you think that's pretentious then you live in upside-down land.

  • TOO MUCH 80'S ARGHHHHHHHHHHH

    FDGKFJHBVDFJBVKFJBKBGKJBJFKGHGHJKF

    Y TORI WHYYYYY!

  • I was the one who took her underwear.

  • She surely discovered who was Kate Bush after this crappy release...

  • I like this song more than Big Wheel!

  • Way too 80s.

  • @bezerker5051 that's because it was the 80's lol

  • @Gatecrasher12 Well, not everything in the 80s appeared too 1980s.

Metallica looked like they'd stepped out of 1960s Woodstock central.

And that's no criticism, man. Far out and pass the acid, please.

  • @bezerker5051 nah, would rather just the bong please rofl. No acid for me, them days are well and truly over hehehe.

  • @Gatecrasher12 Well, if it wasn't for the flashbacks, I'd be halfway sane, too.

But in all seriousness, I saw Tori Amos perform at The Camden Underworld

in London, early 1992. I think you can imagine what a great memory that is.

And this Y Kant Tori Read footage is quite a curio.

  • Lol the beginning of this video looks just like a porn.

  • gone far

  • this was my first time ever watching the video in its entirety.. i love how it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever XD

    ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

  • The first time I saw a bit of this video I fell in love with it and the song, I LOVED IT!

  • 80's hair, :)

  • I'm betting that if Heart Attack at 23 was the first single this album might have blown up! The problem with this album was not the music (I love 80's ladies), it was the lack of promotion by the record company.

  • The cop just... walks off into the alley?

  • God, I love this video.Y Kant Tori Read was a fabulous album.Tori was so talented and beautiful, even back then. This song is so powerful and should have been a huge hit.The lyrics are so true, such poetry, what a perfect commentary for the world we were living in then, and the world we are unfortunately still living in today.I just don't care what the critics say,I rarely pay those gatekeepers any mind, this album is a hidden gem.

    EWF Forever !

  • Lol, it's definitely opposite to Tori's work at nineties and after. Well, who would have thought She could become one of the most fantastic musician ever?

  • @starkfine4 Did you know another weird thing, that just blows my mind? Matt Sorum (Guns N' Roses, Velvet Revolver) was the drummer!!

  • @starkfine4 Proof that everyone deserves a second chance.

  • this sucks cept for the bridge, but the fact that it's titled "the big picture" says a lot about what would transpire for her a short period of time with her career.

  • "Gotta make more money." Don't worry, Tori. You seem to have a lot of talent. I predict you'll become a big star by the mid-90's. ;-)

  • I'm so glad she found a unique voice and abandoned this generic schlock.

  • Wow. I was there in the 80's and I don't remember this.

  • @matleyz that's because it wasn't a big hit lol.

  • She looks like Tiffany!! The song is not that bad, you could tell by her voice that she can really sing. And I like the synths, it kind of has a teenybopper New Order sound to it.

  • Tori worked very hard to lose this image...

  • I want that big white dress with a fan permanently below it.

  • she's so cute and the song is not bad!

  • ...fucking 80's

  • I actually like the music and the cheeziness! and I am a huge Tori fan. People made it out to be a lot worse than it is.

  • @MsNowottny Yeah, it's generic cheesy 80s pop but there was so much worse at the time. I certainly expected worse than this. She already had her voice.

  • Gosh, she's soo pretty!

  • Imagine if this had worked. Would Nirvana have killed her career too?

  • Take me back to the eighties. I'm finished.

  • And here I stand with this sword in my hand.

  • I hate to say it, but this song is actually better than some of the songs on Abnormally Attracted to Sin.

  • @riccardosaga Actually kind of true. There are only one or two songs I like off of Abnormally Attracted to Sin. :/ Hopefully she makes up for it in a new album.

  • OMG at 1:53 - I've never noticed that guy shoving her over like that before!! Poor Tori!

  • love thissssss!

  • i love this album too!!!.... sorry the rec executives are jerks tori!!!

  • I came on here after reading the cracked article and am scared that I faintly remember this video from my childhood. Where's Freud when I need him?

  • LOL!!!!!

  • OUTSTANDING!

  • Thumbs up if you only looked this video up because of Cracked.com

  • Comment removed

  • This is hilarious!

  • I think this is really good! Love the 80s and love TORI!

  • killer abs on that woman. i'm glad her career survived.

  • I don't understand why this music was labeled as "hair metal." It reminds me a lot more of Cyndi Lauper than it does Poison.

  • @ebromero2 That's what I was just thinking. Kind of sounds like "I drove all night"-era Cyndi Lauper!

  • this thing is so 80's it looks like a SNL parody!!

amazing she managed to have a huge, bright career after this fiasco.

  • That is hysterical! Nice ass though

  • all i can say is... love her hair. rawr

  • RED'S A BAD GIRL.

  • tori had her time of being hot and talented but never could dance.i have this record ,its a promo copy which means first pressing from atlantic

  • LOL Tori is amazing

  • Awesome. Love this.

  • Oh Tori NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

  • She comes off as a cross between Lee Aaron and Kate Bush here.

  • Say 'Good Bye" Brittany Speers...

  • I think some people snigger at this a bit but I think it wouldn't sound out of place on Hounds of Love - it's really beautifully crafted pop

  • Seriously--this is hot! So different from her later stuff.

  • This is SOOOOOOOOOO 80s and I love it! Tori looks awesome and is like some hybrid of Jareth the Goblin King (Labyrinth) and Kate Bush in this. Really sexy at the piano too:)

  • @Pemlola I always thought Demi Moore could put on a red wig and look just like her.

  • I just HAD to play this CD loudly in the car today...

  • It's still better than most of the hair metal from the 80s.

  • At the beginning of her career, she had to do it in a sexy (although a bit strained) way. We don't see that in her later productions, everything there comes naturally, still being attractive and seductive.

  • This was a bad single choice. They should've went with 'heart attack at 23' instead.

  • This shit is hot. I've never seen this video before. This is so much different than the other stuff but I dig it.

  • Hilarious! The 80's were nutty - the lost decade of music.

  • I hate 80's pop culture

  • FUCKING TERRIBLE .

  • My super-favorite songs from the album are this one and "Fayth". I listen to them so much! I caught on to Tori during the "Caught a Lite Sneeze" era, but knew about her stats in this band from VH1's "Before They Were Rock Stars" once upon a time! (^_^)

  • before Lady Gaga, Tori has put her high-heel on the pianoXD

  • @yoshyuan Your G-d damned right she did :D

This is Tori's version of selling out but she stopped because it didn't feel comfortable.. Miss Ridiculous Gaga needs a lobotomy!!!!

  • @yoshyuan and before Tori, there was Little Richard

  • oh good lord hahah :D

  • what the hell did people do to their hair in the 80's?

  • @skatapoopy

they used enough hairspray to strip away the ozone layer! (the real story behind global warming!) :-p

  • I do like the video... Tori is just amazing!!! ♥♥♥

  • Does anyone else notice that the underwear are in the officer's pocket when he walks away?

  • @burlapkwanzaa I really think that's the point...

  • Sorry Tori. I broke into your car and took your underwear.

  • Am I the only one who thinks she's hot as fuck in this video?

  • @crizzy71

No, she IS hot looking in this video.

But the song (and the video, for that matter) STILL sucks...

  • @UdoShan Oh, no question about that

  • @crizzy71, she's hot as fuck in everything. I've honestly never seen a more physically beautiful woman than Tori Amos.

  • I think it's fortunate for the rest of her career that this little venture flopped...

  • This isn't too bad at all.

Interesting to see how much she hasn't changed. Kept the same great voice, same great singing style, etc. same crotch thrusting piano playing she's always done.

The music and the lyrics these days are better, that's all that's really changed.

  • I am drooling over Tori Amos on those piano shots and that white dress...great legs.

  • I wonder how many takes it took to get down the faux nasally LA Hooker voice right.

  • Didn't she have a British hit with 'China In Your Hand'...?

  • I saw this on MTV in the mid 80's and I thought, " I don't know who this chick is, but she's way ahead of her time."

  • I see more Tori in this than I do in anything off of Midwinter Graces, Abnormally Attracted to Sin, and most of American Doll Posse. I feel like now she is just a parody of herself. I go to and watch her live shows and I feel like she is just acting like Tori Amos. She has her face and her eyes ::barely after the surgery:: but she is not her. Between SW and TBK the surgery started and it marked a noticable change in her persona and music and since then its been a decline. Crucify me if you must.

  • @nmothin Tori has had plastic surgery? I never knew this.

  • I am a big tori fan but I have to agree with you!!! Still love her though!

  • @nmothin I wish she would see this for herself. I think her change of persona may be part of becoming a mother and her priorities changing etc. But I agree 100%.

  • @nmothin That's stupid. You don't know her. You can't say what IS and ISN'T her. Arists change.

  • Well, I was born in 85 and I didn't discover Tori til 03. I love this tune. I would have loved to have seen her perform this song at some point along her modern career, preferably the band. I know in the canon of Tori songs it's not the deepest or "best" material but it is her roots none the lest and I think with the band it would be a fun addition to a live show. I personally think her epic career ended with The Beekeeper, maybe ADP. But I have always loved this album and this song. Go Tori!!!

  • long live the 80s!!!!!

  • The song is fine, the video hilarious.

  • I honestly think everyone is being WAAAAYY too hard on this. I have been a Tori fan from the very beginning....and I had never heard this until now. (somehow I managed to avoid it) I was expecting it to be really terrible. But when you put it alongside the poppy stuff by some respected artists (Simple Minds, Big Pig, Depeche Mode) it's really not half bad. I like what she does now much better. But I think that if you don't look at it like a "Tori Amos" song, its not bad for what it is.

  • @Jammindude Too true mate. Taken in context with when it was released, this was a really good tune, and the video is on par with the times. Cripes it was 88. I would say that a good 65-70% of people watching this right now weren't old enough in the 80's to remember what the scene was like. I too think her period from "Little Earthquakes" up to and including "Boys for Pelee" is far superior to Y Kant Tori Read, but it was also made in a different time kids.

  • You know... I always wondered when people would say "Y Kant Tori Read" was bad...

    Now I understand... It was THAT bad... oO;

  • I love this video. "That's gross!" I laugh every time.

  • The most amazing thing about this video is that her career survived it.

  • @bcherry68

Well it DID so suck it up, you pathetic hater.

  • ok everyone TORI vs MADONNA. Who wins? (and yes they are comparable artists - they're only 5 or 6 years apart).

  • Comment removed

  • Oh thank goodness she grew out of this. She is sooo great now! So unique, creative, and intelligent. Love Tori.:)

  • This has gotta be a joke, right? Looks like a Saturday Night Live bit. She oozes sex. This is a woman that is clearly comfortable with her body. The semi-stradle of the piano, which really made me think this is a spoof, demonstrates that clearly!

I saw her 14 yrs ago when I was 16. That was one of the finest moments in my life, I have to say. Her performance truly blew my mind. Seeing her live made me fall in love with, and really appreciate seeing live musical performances.

  • THAT'S GROSS!

  • God, the song doesn't seem so bad without the video. I feel embarrassed watching it LOL...

I wonder what would have happened if she'd been successful this way?

  • @iantuition

I agree with you dude HAHA.

Either way, Tori Amos is quite amazing.

  • We are talking about a major survivor of that legendary 80's decade, she's still on the run and, as you said, getting as old wines...

  • Y kan't Tori read?

Apparently, she was tone deaf as well..

  • Why does she have a cutlass?

  • Because Kate Bush had one too

  • To imagine Tori being considered a Cyndi Lauper carbon copy at one point in time is fairly amusing.

  • dude i was totally thinking that too lol

  • Hey now! What's wrong with Cyndi Lauper? Yeah, she did pop music but she always remained true to herself.

  • Nobody implied any negative connotations regarding Lauper.

  • @Patriciameadows Yeah, there's nothing wrong with Cyndi. As far as pop goes, she was quite respectable. This video shows Tori's vocal talent and her innocent drive to make it in the music industry, but she was much more adorable once she started being herself.

  • This is great!

Great upload, I love Reba McEntire.

  • hahahaha

  • I love youtube for exposing how most "artists" on major labels are just product. Even the ones deemed sincere. It's funny reading comments here saying this wasn't her true self but the 90's version was. She was just repackaged. Who says the 90's alt chick was her real self maybe this 80's version is.

  • This is pretty terrible. It's as if someone distilled all of Kate Bush's worst moments and concentrated them into a slick, banal whole. Thank God Tori did the exact opposite in her later work: distilled all of Kate Bush's best moments and concentrated them into stark, harrowing catharsis.

  • Did Matt Sorum still play drums on this one?

  • This reminds me of when Alanis was an idol ^^

  • this is hilarious

  • I love the cheesy dialouge at the beginning!

She's just so hot in this! is that blue puffy shirt and those tight black leather pants, bare torso! Not too mention 2:45 ----I've never wanted to be a keyboard so much in my life!!!

  • So this was Tori's "Empty sky" (Elton''s first album that didnt sell so well), huh?

  • It isn't a bad song but so cheesy 80's high hair pop. I'm glad sales of the record flopped because she realized it was a total sell out and changed record companies to do her own thing.

  • I love this album, too, particularly this song. I had forgotten just how ridiculous this video is. The cinematography is awful and the choreography is so not Tori but as others have said, we all start somewhere and figuring out who we're not is often an important step in self discovery.

  • I LOVE this album

  • @leaguecity OMG where did you even find a copy????? I would gladly pay you for a copy!!!!

  • Aww...this really isn't that bad..the song's actually catchy. :)

  • what EV

  • i love it. wish she would do fire on your side in concert... why not?

  • I'm baffled that anyone see's her as signficantly different from, say, Rihanna, in terms of being a 'product' expertly designed by a record company executive to fill a niche. She's no more credible then any other careerist.

  • well, she does write and produce her own songs singlehandedly, can play piano expertly and has never used autotune. so, surely that gives her some credibility at least.

  • Some credibility, sure. But, not the genius alternative icon many of her fans fancy.

  • agreed.

  • I may not like her music, but when she gets close to her piano, I fall in love with her. She is such and amazing person.

  • Tori has nothing to be ashamed of here. Everyone has gotta start somewhere...and this song is hella catchy. T'ain't nothin' wrong with a woman being sensual and suggestive as well as investing in 80s kitsch. Fun times.

  • i mean as much as I hate Rolling Stones calling her a "bimbo" for this record but if they hadn't i think we wouldn't have Little Earthquakes... still its cute... people were silly in the 80's hehe
