It was perfect the way it was, and this is just stupid. When I listen to it I almost forget the true meaning of the song. it truely erks me. And Patti Smith got famous off this song, its what made her name big so yes she sang it, A LOT. If you look up "because the night" she is one of the first to pop up. And no I have yet to hear of that one.

Actually, Bruce Springsteen owns this song, seeing as he wrote it. Smith changed the lyrics to suit a more female view, but it is his song. Every time some douche bag like Cascada or Jan Wayne covers it, the guy is getting paid (at least they used to get royalties for covers, who knows now days).
