There is no monolithic interpretation of Sharia law and there are verses in the Quran that would counteract the idea that apostates must be executed, take verse 2:256 where is says "there is no compulsion in Islam". Even the hard-liners would only call for apostates to be killed if they spread their new religion in an Islamic state.
