that bug looks like the one that I saw that makes that zit-zit-zit sound. and the reason why the sound didnt come thru is b/c of the camera's audio sampling rate which is 11,025hz mono. your camera is like mine but older. I have the Powershot A560.
Not sure if it's sense or that same god that protects children and drunks, but as far as I've been able to tell, they haven't gotten hurt. Be that as it may, they used to do a LOT more bug hunting when they were younger (a year ago). They still bring the ocassional trophy to brag on: iguanas, birds and LOTS of burdocks and nettles. Moths and other small, winged insects are called Moogie snacks at our house. Named after our black cat, Mowgli. Oh, and there's 3 of 'em: Moogs, Itchy and Scratchy.
There are about 3 varieties that I've been able to observe. And yeah, they come in the house. Can't really seal it since we have kitties that come and go. Haven't gotten bitten by any of them, though I have been stung by scorpions twice.
The wildlife is cool and very interesting, but I wouldn't be able to sleep there. =P Do the kitties go after the bugs? I know my cat used to kill lizards, mice, just about anything he could get his paws on... Have any of them gotten hurt by doing that or do they just have enough sense not to?
well good shot either an long horn grass hopper or an Kadydid but didnt like one or the others. should had more clearder scrapping rythemn to it. other wise good shot.
Uhmm, it DID buzz but my camera's mic wasn't sensitive enough to pick it up. The insects that get into our house (scorpions, tarantulas, assasin bugs, crickets, LARGE grasshoppers, etc.) don't seem to suffer from timidity. Not sure why...
thaty actually is the low sample rate of your camera's audio I have the same camera but the A560 and the sample rate is 11,025 mono PCM wave and its not high enough to capture the audo, none of my equipment is good enough to capture the audio.
XD One managed to enter our house a couple of weeks ago, and I went O_O when I saw it on the wall... and then the next morning, it was splattered flat on the floor LOLz
Thanks. I'm getting acquainted w/ all kinds of weird insects. I've lived here in El Salvador before but for whatever reason was never quite as involved w/ the outdoors. Even when I would spend vacations in rural areas.
I hate these things and don't see the need for them on this earth at all I hate them more

You seriously have tarantulas come into your house? That would terrify me, particularly because they're poisonous.

@iluminameluna the frequency range the grasshopper chirped at is out of the range of the camera's audio recording capabilities obviously :(

is it a cicada?
KillingIsPhun 3 years ago
Nope. I'lll try to post a video of a live cicada when "they come into season" on my property. Check back around late Feb. to early March.
iluminameluna 3 years ago
I think it's called a katydid and is more closely related to the cricket.
Great footage.
