  • Thanks man! Very cool tip

  • is there a tutorial on how to make black person white??

  • god bless you :)

  • You are a great teacher! Thank you, it worked GREAT!

  • A good tutorial. thanks

  • AHH THE STATIC D:

  • Very helpful and great results for photo I tried this on which was a landscape. Thank you!

  • The only problem is that you get a lot of white clipping, especially in the nose.

  • you are very kind sir.thanks for making this tutorial.it helps a lot!

  • Thanks for this nice turorial!

  • you have jamies cullum voice seriously check an interview!

  • Can you please do a tutorial on pictures that "The Weeknd" use its a r&b group & they have a very old school vintage style to there pics just google them

  • Fantastic tutorial, explained everything really well and simple... thanks a lot!

  • I realise that, however I want to edit my image not in order to print but to upload to flickr, so unfortunately the effects possible with this are not much use which is really frustrating.

  • @baxcarias ?? When you have done an image with the changes and effects you want, Maybe looking like the one i created in this Tut with the Layers etc.. all you do if File - -Save, Svae the image as whatever file (JPEG/PNG/TIFF)

So get you PSD open, make sure all layers are visable and if thats the image you want no just save as JPEG!

  • I'm trying to save it as a jpeg from psd, and losing all the effects when doing it. Fpr some reason this only happens with this set of steps before hand..

  • @baxcarias Thats BECAUSE of the flattening of the image it will change the blending modes as the object is to compile the image to one layer, if every layer had the same blending mode OR none then it would be fine, but if you have multiple it will not be able to flatten and tbh you dont need to do that for this Tutorial at all.

  • pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaase!

  • OK Having just posted that comment - I got to the colour fill layer, did it, I try to flatten the image and basically the enitre effect is ruined and disappears.....!! What am i doing wrong? I started with flattened image that had previously been edited in silverefex, but don't see why this would have affected it.. HELP!!

  • @baxcarias There is no point in this tut where i Flattened Image.

But from what i hear when you have layers on top of other layers (with different Blending Modes) This creates an issue. Only flatten the image if you want to reduce file size, if your only going to print it then no need to Flatten it.

  • Such a helpful video this one - just came back to it for about the 20th time after about two years - this stuff can fit in to other bnw treatment and dramatically enhance it, thanks for a great video man!

  • Hi, i just need a little help because when i click on gradient map my pictures turns into black and white and also when i click on solid colors it always grey when if i click on yellow or somthing.?? PLEASE HELPPPPPPPPPPP

  • @S0ulsUnited Thats because this Gradient is an ADJUSTMENT LAYER its not a typical layer, use this tutorial shows you jow to Adjustment Layer - Gradient Map or google "Adjustment Layer Gradient Map"

  • @S0ulsUnited you need to set the layer to 'overlay' probably...

  • @baxcarias Im the Layer box it has everytime im on that layer it says what Blending Mode, Or Post the time your stuck on the video that would help :)

  • @baxcarias i did that but its still the same

  • Best b&w tutorial... Amazing transformation.. I used this many times! Congrats!

  • awesome tutorial .... worst sound evar :)) .... but still like and fav ;)

  • @spark0degrade Sound quality or my voice?

  • @HiroKun10 Sound quality, i hisses like mad :(

  • @stuntedmonk As i have commented many times my mic is broke and the hiss is from that.

  • @HiroKun10 your voice is fine ... I meant the quality :) sorry for the misunderstanding!

  • @spark0degrade Ah yeah its my headset, that i unfortunately still own. It somehow broke like a week after i bought the damm thing.

  • great tutorial!

  • What would happen if I decided against adding the sepia tone? :P

  • @sammybadminton101 then your image would look less Bronzed than mine :)

  • @HiroKun10 Yeah, it'll look cool

  • for some reason my photoshop is only in black and white perminately ... i pick the colour red and it goes a dark grey

    ANY HELP?

  • @FloppyBoots go to Edit - - Mode - - and choose the RGB setting and it should be fine :)

  • aesome thx!!! =)

  • Took me a bit to keep up but well worth it. Thanks for the tutorial. To speed up the process I have a couple of tips. You don't need to right click to duplicate a layer, just make sure the layer you want to duplicate is selected and press Control J.

New fill layer, equally, when you are on the box that appears when you select it, you can choose colour here too (rather than go to the box on the right).

Still, this is a great process I'll definitely use again. Not used high pass before!

  • @stuntedmonk Cheers i usually use the hotkeys but for a tutorial i hardly use them because i dont want people to get lost so i use the methods you can SEE in the tutorial, glad you liked it tbh hardly anyone i know uses the High Pass and it has a good use :D

  • hey man! whenever i go to gradient map and click ok, the whole picture changes to a negative picture unlike yours which went black and white.

    any idea why?

  • hey every time i go gradient map, the image get inverted, what did i do wrong.

  • @coolcidd erm when i used the adjustment layer? if so then it goes black and white make sure you 2 colours are blk/white. i dont really understand maybe put the time (of video) your stuck at then i can help.

  • Great tutorial! Thanks for making this video!

  • When I place the Gradient Map, my image turns all white. help ?

  • sick tut

  • thanx nicely done

  • that guy in the picture has been eating to much hookers lol

  • great tut! very helpful for me, thanks and sub'd!

  • Great, great video thanks. I'm getting a lot of noise from ya microphone tho. cheers

  • @larrraaahhh Yep im sorry bout that my mic is broken the mic bit is hanging on lol so the echo or noise is from that :(

  • @HiroKun10

Ahaha sounds about right! no probs :)

  • Good tut, looks a little overexposed but that's all just a matter of taste. Good job.

  • @aviloud Thanks :). TBH it is but you can change that but chaning Levels or whatever at the end, the reason i done this was this video was on YouTube before it went "HD" so it was the only way of making it visible :).

  • wow can i edit videos in photoshop with this effect ? would be like sin city o.o

  • @imabitch4u erm well you can make a version of this in Adobe After Effects that programs more for video editing Photoshop is mainly for "Photos" so you can import videos in :( but After Effects should get very close to this result/

  • very very nice man! you have skills :) Thank you for sharing it. Really helpful :)

  • Brilliant

  • dude, you cant exsplain propely. You say some vital words to quickly and then the rest of the video becomes useless.

  • To a foreign viewer it may but for native English speaking members its fine, also it doesn;t become useless the most important steps are near the end :s

  • Tnx man

  • I don't know how you find these things out, but I'm sure glad you do! It's this sort of thing that makes all the difference in making my ordinary photos look professional and being new to photoshop I wouldn't have a clue how to do this. Excellent tutorial...please keep them coming it really is appreciated.

    no pain no gain

  • how do I take a colour photo, make it black and white and then make the a colour stand out so you would have a black and white photo with lets say blue eyes or a black and white photo with the red standing out ?

  • ok well put the photo on Photoshop and go into edit --- modes -- Black and White (change settings 2 ure liking) then on NEW LAYERS use the pen tool (tool bar at side) (look at tutorial ive done and other on how 2 use it) and select the background and fil with bucket red and use pen tool again and fill the selection red and change blending modes to one that works (lighten or multiply) its kinda hard 2 say over comments u know sorry if it didnt help

  • Fantastic.

  • Thanks verry helpfull

  • this is good stuff! and it was easy! you rock dude!

  • Good job man this is really good stuff.

  • Dont like what it did to the guys lips (stranely dark) and nose (too bright), you should adress those areas. In any case this techniqe seems interestin, i was lookin for new wayz of converting to b&w, im gona give it a tweak.

  • the main image i used was very dark already especially in the lips.

  • do you kow how to puttext in a picture. if yo lok on m channel, iwant to write KennzKilla in myyoutube backgrond image, but i was able to write text in that photo today (without a text tool, i used horizontal type tool) i want to be able to change fonts, colors and position going form bottom left corner to the upper right corner. if you know how message me how or please make a tutorial and send me the video
