i really liked it, i thought it matched it really good, but i think it would have been cool if he time he killed a kid one disapeared each time, and his wife too, but besides that i loved it, awesome job
I see a bunch of adults who are apathetic about the experiences of their offspring. While that isn't the heart of whats going on during The Rake's Song, its still related.
To me, this video does not capture the intense emotion present in the song and the rest of the album. It is a little creepy, but it doesn't tell a story. However, it's possible that it just doesn't measure up to the imaginations of the consumers who love the album and the song.
The video is well done, but I think the style would have been better paired with another song.
I like this video, the subject matter of this song is so morbid, that I think the video conveys it without going overboard.
Guess what guys stop motion animation is a "style" and who gives a damn if that style is used by a lot of bands. If you think about it long enough- everything becomes cliche.
Legitimate art? Who are you to determine what art is and isn't legitimate? They're not only NOT random images, they're the expression of someone's interpretation of an excellent song. I say it's well done.
It's an opinion. I'm not stating that it's not a valid opinion to define it as "legitimate art", but it isn't, in my opinion, a piece of legitimate art.
You act as though your opinion cancels out mine in some fashion, but it's not that sort of arena. In my opinion, this is the equivalent of someone eating a legitimate video and throwing it back up.
That's the thing, though. The images aren't telling anything. It's just a mess of random images. And when one is dealing with something as precise and intricately crafted as a Decemberists song, everything -should- be coherent.
Not to mention the video is just... poorly done. It -looks- like a pretentious art-student's work, not a well done, piece of legitimate art.
Sorry, but I think this is mediocre to bad. It's got no logical or artistic cohesion, and it doesn't fit with the song. It's just random moving images connected to a song which is meant to be part of a larger, overarching story. It's as if someone made a video, and then just tacked the song on at the end.
I honestly don't see how you can say it doesn't fit with the song. It held many references to the story in allegorical/not-so obvious ways, from the chicken body dropping out babies, to the frantic shadow puppets presenting the rake and his children, to all the visual references to children, and the hurting of children, like boiling the doll in the goblet. Sure it's not the prettiest thing to watch, but it made sense to me. O_o;
When you think about it, just about every indie band out there has a at lease one stop motion music video... seriously there are thousands of them..... they've become so cliche. It must have been challenging to find a way to create a unique and interesting stop-motion video.... I think you've succeeded!
this is fine

"it really has no sense at all."

Sorry, I have to agree with Project Cobalt. I mean, I suppose it is interestng enough to look at it, but it really has no sense at all.
It's certainly trippy though.
