  • YAY!!! MARIMBA ONE!!!

  • what are the first four chords?

  • @HiguitaOnslaught First four chords are: Bm11 - Am11 - Gm11 - Ab7sus

  • I am thinking about playing this for solo and ensemble with a friend of mine. Does anybody know where i might order sheet music for this? if anybody does please reply to my comment. thanks

  • @mcintireman try steveweissmusic . com

  • I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is the first improvisation really own created?

  • Yeah... it's just based on the first four chords of the piece. Hope you liked it!

  • very contemporary like new age actually very nice I am also a marimbist and vibes player thanks for posting I hope next time add the vibrato to the vibes

  • Where can i find this score??

    Can anyone tell me??

  • write to Dave Samuels thru his website,he is friendly.

can you play the mallets at that level?

Why not get you and your friend together, create your own improvisation. Imitate, emulate, steal,

borrow. But ask Dave,he might give a few hints.

or did you ask for the sore to appear clever?

  • beautiful!

  • Nice i wish i was like that

  • Fantastic!

  • OMG that whas nice! I wish I could play like that - I'm looking forward to that! This just made my day!

  • Bravo, Bravissimo.

  • I just got the sheet music for this today, and i dont see that first vibe solo bit at the beginning nor the swing section in the music. Did you guys write those parts yourselves?

  • I just improvised the vibe solo at the beginning and we played around with vibe solo section. Since they just wrote one idea for the marimba and then ad lib, he kind of did his own thing based on what I was playing, so in tended to be different every time. Enjoy learning the piece... it's a lot of fun!

  • well very nice job on your performance. I might play around with the possibilities as well. This is probably my favorite duet, and my favorite video of it as well.

So, if you don't mind me asking, what school do you go to and, if anyone, who do you study with?

  • Thanks so much! ...and I don't mind you asking! The video was recorded at Ft. Lewis College. It's a small school in Durango, CO. I studied with Dr. John Pennington. I'm currently getting my MM at New York University and studying with Jonathan Haas and Simon Boyar. Are you in school right now?

  • I'm only in high school, but i hope to major in composition and performance someday when i attend college. I hope to attend University of North Texas where i can study with Mark Ford, but who knows where i'll end up.

I'm pretty much obsessed with keyboard stuff and i hope that's the skills i can pass down to someone later in my life.

  • Brilliant...Michael you rock that bro!

  • great skill....very good

i play marimbaa with balinese tekhnic..

    see my video

  • WHOAAAAHH. This is amaziing :)

I play Marimbaa, and i was thinking of hopefully going into music in Cegep and all, but, just curious, how many years have you been playing? xD

  • Thanks so much! I guess I have been playing mallet instruments for about 5 years now, but I have played piano for most of my life. Good luck with everything!

  • very nice :0)

  • I was looking at this piece on steve weiss and i really want to get it... but what is the range needed for the marimba?

  • haha, two of my friends were supposed to play this piece... but they never learned it. Now I know what they were missing out on.

  • I think, what is written in the music sheet, it's writen for a reason, too much improvisation.... congrats anyway, It's a hard piece

  • Man, you guys are good.

  • Where did you get the sheet music for this piece? I can't find the publisher.

  • Sorry about the delayed response! The music for this is available at Steve Weiss Music online... great site if you've never seen it!

  • this is very inspiring to watch and listen, thoughts of water gliding over rocks comes to mind when listening to this, plus a duo combination of mallet percussion is a double treat.

  • So, after watching this video a million times I decided to make an arrangement of Carousel for the UMass Marimba Band II, and I'm using your interpretations as a major key factor. I also want to transcribe your opening solo, but I'm not that good yet. Basically, thank you so much for creating this wonderful music.

  • Thanks so much! This is a great piece and is sooo much fun to play! I would love to hear the arrangement that you come up with! The solo at the beginning is nothing special... It's just based on the first four chords of the piece (Bm11 - Am11 - Gm11 - Ab7sus). Good luck with everything!

  • Well we plan on playing it this semester so I will have to record the final performance and see what you think. It's my first major arrangement and I have a lot of work to do, but it is completed at the moment to the best of my ability. But thank you again for this music.

  • So if you're still interested in hearing it my arrangement of Carousel has been completed and played at a concert just a few days ago. It was recorded by the UMASS Marimba Band II. Check it out if you want and let me know what you think! Thanks!

  • I checked out your video... it was really great!!! It seems like you guys have a good program at UMASS. I have seen some really cool stuff from there. Did you play on that arrangement of Love and Laughter that's posted on Vic Firth's website? Congratulations on the performance and your arrangement! Take care!

  • where did you find the love and laughter video on vic firth? I can't find it

  • Nice performance!!!you're really good!!

    congratulation....

    Greetings from Chile!!

    Ruben

  • this is amazing, i cant wait till i'm that good at mallets, if ever. is the vibe player playing stevens and the marimba player playing burton? i can't really tell. But anyways, awesome job.

  • they're both playing burton, i think.

  • MusicaTeAmo is correct... we are both using Burton grip.

  • Nice performance!

PLaying an E instead of F on the marimba around 2:25 sounds strange though, cos it's a Db major chord. Was this done on purpose?

  • I played this with a colleague of mine at UMass at the same time as you, but I just have to say that that sounded absolutely amazing. Everything flowed beautifully, and it was hard to find the parts that I remember being extremely hard. Congrats to both of you, job very well done. Certainly one of my favorite pieces, pretty much ever, and I think I may make this my new favorite recording of it. Thank you.

  • Wonderfull interpretation of you both!! But I have a question, the introduction in the vibraphone was created by yourself?

  • Yeah. I just came out and improvised for awhile, since it was for my Senior Recital. The improvisation is just based on the four chords that make up the main theme of the piece. Thanks for your kind words!

  • I absolute adore this piece of music, thanks for sharing.

  • This is such a rad piece. Definitely one of my favorites. You guys play very well together. Congratulations on a great performance!

  • Thanks man! I love their stuff, it's so much fun to play!
