@Rose Allen 123: Your dad was/is one cool mofo. I always loved TWP and was fortunate enough to see them live a couple of times in LA. Ripped the top of my head. Thanks !
Welcome to Carno-Burger may I take your order? Sunshine is that you? Don't lie to me now, I know it's you. You said you'd love me, you said you'd never leave me. You little whore, you broke my fuckin' heart! Ain't that nice? I figure if I can't have you, no one will. That bitch, I'm gonna find 'er, and then I'm gonna kill 'er.
The Wolfgang Press were too good to ever attain a large audience and they broke up after this album, possibly their best. In any event they actually came to Dallas around 1995 and I saw them and "Mick" even signed my Christianity T shirt, a very generous gesture from a talented person.
it´s still a wonder to me that "going south" entered the u.s.-top ten and the album the top twenty. back then 94/95 when i came home, i just put on this music to get calm.......
I saw them once in NYC at the Cat Club. It was a small show which worked out for me since I stood at the front of the stage and just lost my mind to their music.
@senser64: Sorry for adopting other people´s silly gossip which i must have read below another Wolfgang Press video - i should have looked into Wikipedia ! You´re right.
Look at you Mike!!! Mike Allen that is (not Mick), I used to work with this fine talent, that is Mike, and he is still working for a top London Borough today as I found out last week. I moved on, ne never but he has been promoted now though......lol....Great stuff
I saw them live on the Funky Little Demons tour (they were great, by the way, no surprise there) and I bought a t-shirt after the show. It has the lyrics for this song, Christianity, written in a swirling circular pattern. Problem is, only the word 'Christianity' is easily readable, so I had two people I know ask me why I would wear such a shirt, like I was promoting the religion! Not quite! I still have it, just don't wear it much.
You should wear that shirt more often and if they ask you a stupid question like that again.... just say " That's how I roll.... get over it" what do they care if you are Christian or Catholic or Bhudist...... i cant stand people like that....... sorry for the Rant...... Just Sayin
@buckzilla01 I don't think you get it...the song is exceedingly negative about Christianity, a view I share, and yet the shirt gives off the impression that I'm some kind of Christian. Have you listened to the lyrics? Do you know the song at all?
@Lilbudpump i know the song, but you missed the point i was trying to make...... that person saw the Christianity on your shirt and automatically judged you and made the decision to harass you about it..... and that person probably hates Christians because allot of them do the same thing..... judgmental Hippocrates. that's all I was sayin. have a good day
It always pissed me off that Alabama 3 got such kudos for "creating" the Sopranos theme when it was obvious they shamelessly ripped off the sound Wolfgang Press created - vocals et al.
TWP kicks ass...from funky little demons all the way back to birdwood cage. One of my favorite bands of all time...4AD does it again...they even covered aretha with liz singing background on "respect"...how cool is that?
The first time I heard this song was background music on a story MTV News was doing on photographer Helmut Newton...this is the first song that I very diligently searched to discover who it was...and it was like a year after that story that I found out who it was...by hearing the remix of this song in The Doom Generation and finally reading on the soundtrack listing that it was them.
I think they broke up right after this? Sadly, the Christianity single never got commercially released: the remix was quite good, and the b-side "Love Will Surface" is among the best things TWP ever recorded. 4AD should release a rare & remixed TWP retrospective to accompany the Everything Is Beautiful best-of disc.
