A pledge to the flag can have more than one meaning, for example "i pledge to do no actions to wrong to my fellow countryman or that i know will create a danger for any citizen." The problem with the pledge is that its like giving total devotion to your country, which for at least some God fearing men creates a problem since they must obey God first, and the law of the land second. For me, i will not join the police or military for any reason.

A pledge to the flag can have more than one meaning, for example "i pledge to do no actions to wrong to my fellow countryman or that i know will create a danger for any citizen." The problem with the pledge is that its like giving total devotion to your country, which for at least some God fearing men creates a problem since they must obey God first, and the law of the land second. For me, i will not join the police or military for any reason.

The truth is that there has long been a set of plans on the books for what to do if the country got shit hammered. It was part of the Civil Defence plan that was assembled way back in the 1950's. It included setting up camps for survivors and pressing civilians into work gangs to perform such things as digging graves and building shelters. This is nothing new. That's not to say that it couldn't be twisted into something else or activated after a self inflicted national emergency though.

Personally, I think US is already under a state of Paramilitary Martial Law, at least technically. Police are allowed to manhandle, beat, taze, and shoot at will, more or less. The only real thing standing in the way is an actual decalaration/edict/proclamation/executive order, etc. Civilians' constitutional rights seem to be all but vanished, and the people plod right through it, zombified and watiing for said declaration. The very terminology "Civilian" ought to be a clue.
