  • Thank you so much! I've never hooked up a hard drive of any kind but mine took a crap. I can't afford a professional and your video helped me all the way through. Thank you!

  • this video skiped the part I need help with. Connecting the tivo drive, clonning it and loading it to the new drive.

Or is all this done while the drive is in the tivo?? .

  • i have a question.. can you simply record free to air shows on the box or is it for cable only? free to air refers to what you guys might call over the air in the us.

  • the video JUMPS from looking at back of unit to SOMEHOW cloning a drive.. leaving off important how to steps. HOW to clone old hard drive?with original programs and TIVO software??? then how to put that onto new TIVO hard drive???

  • Will this work for the Directv Tivo boxes as well?

  • So I followed the steps exactly, for Tivo Series 3 and the system wont boot. I get the inital splash screen and it stays there. I reformatted the WD Green 1TB Drive using the mfs utility.. and I tried again, same deal. I am now trying an older version of Tivo code.. 11.0c, that I had leftover from my last swap a year and a half ago. If this doesnt work, anyone else have suggestions?

  • I'm a bit confused. I understand the technical part of installing the 1TB hard drive but then how do i connect it to the CPU? and what software did you use to to clone & copy it? am i suppose to this first before i take out the hard drive?

  • Thank you for your help! Get video. I just finished my back-up and upgrade w/1TB drive and it took me only a few minutes.

  • can you do this to any tivo or just the HD? did you conect the hARD DRIVE TO COMPUTER? AND THE 1tb ? I AM CONFUSED

  • can you do this to any tivo or just the HD?

  • Nice video...however I missed how you jumped from installing the hard drive in your tivo to cloning the new drive via WinMFS (at 5:45). I dont want to sound stupid but did you do this via USB, ethernet, Wifi or what? Or did you take the new drive back out of your Tivo and attach it to a computer SATA cable? Please tell me how you are doing this? thanks

  • This video is pretty misleading. He goes straight to installing the drive and then without much guidance starts talking about formatting. You have to clone the old tivo drive to the new 1TB drive FIRST then do the install. Just thought that should be pointed out.

  • just wondering is there a limit on how big you can upgrade to?

  • I want to perform the same procedure, with a 2TB hard drive on a new Tivo Premier series DVR. Is it just a matter of exchanging the hard drives or do I need to perform any type of formatting and or software installation? If so, could it be done with a Mac, since I do not have a PC? Thank you, Arami! Will

  • how bout ssd?

  • so you do not have to format or partition the new drive?

will the tivo format it on first startup?

would this work on a tivo series 2?

    thanks

  • If i change out my hard drive will it affect my online settings with tivo? I.E. my lifetime subscription etc.?

  • Thanx

  • Can I use the hitachi hdd 3100 or3200?

  • Yes you can use any hard drive you want.

  • @aramistech Any old hard drive can be used?....Is there a specific WD or Hitachi 2TB drive that must be used?....Ive heard that TIVO needs a particular external eSata drive....With the JMFS tool can you jam any old huge drive into a TIVO Premiere ??

  • Great video, I was wondering what the name is of the monitors that you have on your desktop, and what size resolution etc they are.

  • Thanks, the monitors are dell 19" I bought them long ago I don't think dell sells them anymore. The resolution is 1280x1024.

  • @aramistech i have 2 acer 19.5" 1920x1080 screens acer makes good ones

  • Good video

  • Thank you.

  • Awesome Video Aramis! now if i don't want perform the hack above, cant i just buy any external hdd with an esata connector and just add it to the tivo? Thanks Again dude keep up the great work!

  • Thank you for your comment, I appreciate it. You can use an esata drive but the way I did it here in the video it replaces the internal drive. I don't like to have a bunch of things connected to it.
