Most Christians leaders remarked on how Hitchens was an intelligent man and a talented writer. I'm sure there were some oddballs (e.g. Fred Phelps and his Westboro [I'll start a church w/my own family] Cult) who spewed out ungracious words like Maher does here, but most credible Christian leaders showed respect to Hitchens and his family.

@aetr6 Maybe Jerry's churches did do some good. Would he deserve respect for that, sure. However any respect he may have gained he also pissed away in very short order. Falwell used his churches to make millions of dollars for himself and gain publicity. He then used that money and fame to build a political career. During his many decades long political career he firmly fought for discrimination, first against blacks (he wasn't a fan of de-segregated schools) then against homosexuals and women.

Most Christians leaders remarked on how Hitchens was an intelligent man and a talented writer. I'm sure there were some oddballs (e.g. Fred Phelps and his Westboro [I'll start a church w/my own family] Cult) who spewed out ungracious words like Maher does here, but most credible Christian leaders showed respect to Hitchens and his family.

@Turandot29 My conviction is it is because many serve strange gods ... and bring curses on themselves! I think aids effects many because men who have sex with men, then have sex with women. The women get pregnant and it goes to the child...when man does evil it will rain on the just and unjust! We all suffer when others sin and do wrong in the sight of God. @aetr6 Maybe Jerry's churches did do some good. Would he deserve respect for that, sure. However any respect he may have gained he also pissed away in very short order. Falwell used his churches to make millions of dollars for himself and gain publicity. He then used that money and fame to build a political career. During his many decades long political career he firmly fought for discrimination, first against blacks (he wasn't a fan of de-segregated schools) then against homosexuals and women.

Lastly he used every opportunity he had to spout hatred, lies and complete, utter random bullshit. Does that make me a bigot, nope. In short, I only give respect to those people who deserve and Falwell is not one of those people.
