this is metaphorically speaking.. The dajjal will appear in it physical form and create havoc on earth.. there are many hadiths to prove this...Allah's Apostle stood up amongst the people and then praised and glorified Allah as He deserved and then he mentioned Ad-Dajjal, saying, "I warn you of him, and there was no prophet but warned his followers of him; but I will tell you something about him which no prophet has told his followers: Ad-Dajjal is one-eyed whereas Allah is not."

Surah 22:47 “Yet they ask thee to hasten on the Punishment! But God will not fail in His Promise. Verily a Day in the sight of thy Lord is like a thousand years of your reckoning.”

Surah 32:5 "He regulates the affair from the heaven to the earth; then shall it ascend to Him in a day/period the measure of which is a thousand years of what you count.”

I'm pretty sure its supposed to say one heavenly day is like a thousand years and not one heavenly year. May just be a mistake!
