They are all tall, that way its right beside the steering wheel. That way the drivers hand is off the wheel for the shortest time possible.

Then why not use the paddle shifter that comes with the Automatic trans Vettes.

This way the hands are never off the steering wheel.

Beacuse your still physicly changing gears like in a regular manual. With paddles your telling the computer to change gears. Paddles are more complicated and heavier. This is all mechanical. The future is not computerized, its mechanical, check out zeroshift. It shifts gears without the clutch, up and down, and its all mechanical. With paddles theres a computer that opens and closes the clutch, but mechanical gearbox the clutch just stays closed during shifts. This is faster then paddles.

@GerryK61 because if you put enough money into research and producing the transmission it can be faster but its also replaced after every race therefore putting a f1 transmission in a street car is absurd because just the transmission would cost more than the corvette and would need to be replaced all the time. The sequential transmission is replaced after the season is over or even less often and is simpler to produce and nearly as fast as the f1 transmission.

@GerryK61 btw no street car truly has a f1 transmission, they trade speed for better reliability so the sequential is faster ( see ferarri enzo, clutch had to be replaced after 3 hard launches)
