Good video Reese. I probably wouldn't have got a diagnosis if it weren't required over here. But, if I had gone on hormonese 18 months ago I would not be as stable as I am now. There is some value in therapy beyond getting the letters for hormones and surgery but that is dependend on the individual's situation.
Anyway, I'm thankful that I live in the Netherlands. Not many problems from insurance only a long waiting list at the gender clinic.
re patients educating practitioners: Charlie Glickman says that if someone is going to spend any time educating him about some unique experience (for example a culture, belief or desire) he does not charge for that time because they are taking the time to educate him (which adds value to his practice in the long run by broadening his scope). I think this is a considerate approach which allows a therapist to be flexible about they "type" of cases they take on without penalizing clients.
Oh And I'm in Colorado so I'm not sure if the same guidelines apply..I just feel that Bren diagnosed with some type of disorder brings about stigmatization...
So..I'm not sure I understand..and this may be a dumb question..but if you want to get hormones you don't need to be diagnosed with GID if your deciding to pay it out of pocket?
Thanks for doing this research!
