  • Manchesters finest, Thanks for the vid, Tezza yhe Manch......

  • The Searchers had a minor hit with this song and it was really good.

  • Cada vez que esvucho esta cancion me acuerdo de la chica que me gusta

  • I love the hollies, and crosby, stills, nash, and young. I love all the great harmony based bands of the mid 60s.beatles,beach boys, byrds, mamas and papas, the searchers....ect

  • @NewHopeNashFan:

I've no doubt Ron did teach Graham - but they were political skills. Graham's problem at that time was a creative one. He was looking to break new ground, but Ron wanted to stay with the tried and true. Had this not been the case, Graham would have stayed with The Hollies.

At the time, I was sad that he'd quit - but I was also very impressed with CS&N's first album when it came out..

    Mixed blessings I guess .....

  • Most of the Hollies releases were vetted by their manager Ron Richards - which is why Graham Nash ulitimately left the group. It was too restricting for him.

  • @GerryLayton1 I would not blame Ron Richards - who the great Graham Nash credits today with teaching him the skills it took to shepherd CSN.

  • @GerryLayton1

Ron Richards was not their manager

  • This song was one of eight originals of the Hollies (they were writing under the collective moniker of "L.Ransford" in those days) that they contributed to the Everly Brothers 1967 album "Two Yanks In England". They also did most of the session work as well.

  • HOW COME THAT ONE'S NOT ON THEIR OFFICIAL BEST OF?????????

  • i wasnt born when they sang this song but i really love it and the beatles both bands are sensational in there own way he aint heavy hes my brother this is soul music if i had a connection to heaven ill trade in justin bieber to bring back mj lady gaga for luther nicky minaj for elvis lol even throw in the whole jonas brothers

  • great tune from the hollies. so representitive of music in 1966. it was the year that bridged the simple boy meets girl songs of the mid 60s to the intropective songs of the psycodellic late 60s.

  • @45rpmSINGLES I'm just explaining to batobantelis how the two groups are different and didn't copy each other. I never said it mattered who wrote the songs, I was saying that the Beatles specifically spent time in the studio developing their own songs whereas the Hollies liked to go to the studio and record what they enjoyed playing, whether it was written by Allan, Tony and Graham or (as was usually the case until 1966) the song came from another source. Sorry I didn't explain that well earlier

  • @batobantelis As much as I absolutely adore the Hollies, the Beatles were around way before they were and the two groups made it to fame in 1963 with already well developed styles of their own. The Beatles were more into writing their own songs, whereas the Hollies were happy to stick to covers and making their own hit singles until around 1966 when the music industry began to give artists a bit more freedom. As for Hermans Hermits, they were just a bit rubbish in comparison.

  • @SuperCameronb what difference does it make who wrote the songs ?! If that was a criteria for greatness you could write Elvis out of music history I guess....

  • @SuperCameronb

The Hollies original members were together in a band around 1961 under various names.

The Hollies were writing songs from 1963 ('Whole World Over', 'Now's The Time', 'Hey, What's Wrong With Me' etc)

Clarke & Nash wrote 'Running Through The Night' in 1961

From 1964 to mid 1966 Clarke, Hicks & Nash wrote as 'Ransford' - 'We're Through' made No.7 in the UK charts in 1964

  • I photographed the Hollies in 1977 in Canada. To see the shots go to ianmarkmusicphotos (.com)

  • cool!

  • Wow! Cute pics, and alot of them are crystal clear!

    <3 Graham Nash! <3

  • No. The singing style of Beatles (John Lennon) was almost a take-off from the Hollies...and their song writer style from Herman Hermits...

Thus, these two groups, Herman Hermits and The Hollies actually could be the ones that actually set-off a new Music Era Revolution which started actually in early 1960s!

  • @batobantelis Wait, what? I like these bands, but you can't just reshape history like that!

  • Paul and Barry Ryan besides The Searchers did this too, in a strange twist the Ryan's version was produced by Chris Curtis who had left The Searchers by time of their release.

    Searchers version wins hands down

  • @rcpinsai love the hollies.....but the searchers win this one .your right

  • Better than the Searchers' version. The song itself is reasonably good, but The Hollies put something to it which pushes it a bit above average.

  • Very heavy guitar for a "pop" group.

  • Those old pictures of Graham Nash before he joined Crosby, Stills & Nash are pretty cool.

  • I prefer The Searchers' version.

  • Totally amazing! Never knew they did this song. A great version. The other was by The Searchers of course.

  • @standarvet Sorry, I disagree with you!!

  • la misma melodia en Espana y en espanol que DIAS

  • No, it's infinitely better!

  • Hey, this is when Graham Nash was still with them! Cool.

  • Good version.

I only knew it with The Searchers.

    Chimbo

    Chimbo`s Revival

  • @Chimbo65

Thanks for mentioning The Searchers' version...I was trying to remember where I'd heard this tune! I think The Hollies version is better...if only for the Tony Hicks guitar fills...England's most under rated player of his era!

  • I just remembered cutting the collars off shirts.....

  • Ok, sarcasm aside, I bought 'Evolution' on vinyl, from a cheapie shop, back in 1974, and have always highly rated many of the songs on it. The only let down was 'Lullaby to Tim' but only because of the special effect on the voice, not the tune. Overall, 'The Hollies' were one of the best groups of the 60's and their music still rocks. Just listen to 'When your lights turned on' and 'Games we play', harmonies that make your hair stand on end! (And yes, I'm a massive Beatles fan too.)

  • Let's be honest. It's not as good as rap, is it?

  • @Mr6292 rap is just missing a capitol "C" in front of it !!!!

  • @AussiePegasus01

Oh I know, I know and, apart from missing the the 'C', perhaps it's also missing 'CLAPT'. I guess if enough people tell you it's good from an early age, you might end up believing it, but luckily there are still people out there with minds of their own. 'So, respec (no 'T') for the Hollies and da Beatles massive, da 60's is in da howse!' I think that's the correct terminology........

  • awesome share sunsets !!

  • The Hollies are a great band but as songwriters they couldnt come close to the Beatles and though they wrote some good songs and a couple of great A sides, they struggled to be prolific writers.Plus,Ron Richards wasnt the best producer for them during this era of 67 as he overdid things in trying to be innovative like the Beatles and George Martin

  • @kenfig Who gives a shite about the Beatles...I like the HOLLIES! The Beatles only had so many songs....they're tired and give out ! I am a Beatles fan, but I'm tired of their music...let's listen to the HOLLIES for a while!

  • @pds3939 You do for a start ! ; you said. Why youre telling ME this i dont know either as i'm a Hollies fan.Maybe you've partly read my comment or misinterpreted it ; i dont know

  • Love this song. The Searchers' version is great too.

  • Comment removed

  • i really love this song!!!! classy!!!!

  • VIVA ESTA MUSICA

  • Tony was soooo good! Chris was one of the best bass player, he used a fender 6 string and had a great rep & add Bobby -amazing then top it off with Graham and Alan and you had 100% perfection...I loved them as a youngster when they were popular. I appreciate them even more today

  • Man, that distorted guitar is amazing! So punk rock!

  • @Rebecca241290 Thank you :)

  • What Hollies album is this tune on ?

  • @CuyahogaMustang

    It's on Evolution. ;-)

  • Ha the beatles xD

  • GREAT AS ALL THEY DO

  • Great song! Never heard this in the USA growing up until recently on YouTube. These guys were SO underrated. Tony & Bobby really drive the music here. The group vocals on the chorus are excellent, although not as good as the ones on the Searchers' version. Thanks again for posting this. Please keep them coming as you find them. British invasion music is the best!!

  • The Hollies wrote this song!! I love it by them as well as The Searchers!

  • esta cancion me gusta es la primera q escuche de ellos en aqui en Youtube

  • I like the bass line in this song. Simple, but tasteful.

  • I LOVE this Hollies version!!

  • The Searchers version is punchier, with great drum licks (John Blunt). Chris Curtis produced Paul & Barry Ryans version. Everlys recorded it too.

  • love all things Hollies, but think this is a rare example where others have made much better jobs of their song. listen to the mono mix of the Searchers' version - it rocks!

  • I am a fan of both groups, The Hollies and The Searchers, as any true child of the 60s would be. However, for this particular track I have to agree with ChrisCurtisFan; The Searchers' version is the better of the two, although that is not to detract from The Hollies' version which is still great!

  • As a diehard Hollies Fan, it would be hard not to like this! However, as the biggest ChrisCurtisFan-Searchers, I prefer their version. Both wonderful bands. 5 stars!! :-)

  • @ChrisCurtisFan I love the Hollies, but on this I like the Searchers more

  • the 60's wasnt my era I was born in 77 but I have to agree you can't compare the hollies with the beatles. the hollies are the best. Im only 32 and I now a good band when I see one. they should have entered the rock n roll hall of fame a long time ago.

  • Hey Ho girl. You are so right! Iv'e got every original album by the Hollies and 'Iv'e seen them live in concert from '77 when I was 18. Allan Clarke had the best voice ever!

  • The people comparing the Hollies to the Beatles are just a bunch of idiot mouths. Period.

  • You are liviing in ignorance! The beatles lasted for 6 years The Hollies were a class above the them. Media Hype has got to your brain The Hollie are muiscians (I might have spelt that wrong

  • Comment removed

  • Well, at least Ringo didn't start losing his hair in the 'sixties!!

    Yes, I'm kidding!

Of course, that's a ridiculous point!

No more ridiculous, however that the Beatles' legend is "Media Hype."

Fortunately, the world is big enough for both groups, and one doesn't have to choose one to the exclusion of the other! ;)

  • As always....great Hollie's song...great group...so proud to be called a fan of theirs!!

  • No. Any Beatles fan would realise they're two different bands and that it's pointless to compare them.

  • @booteak1 True I am a fan of both the Beatles and the Hollies different bands.

  • great song

  • Hollies will be entering the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame :) Best to the Hollies and all the fans that know how great they are.

  • I'm so glad I've still got my vinyl copy of Evolution!

  • There was another version of this song in 1966, a single by the Searchers(got to No. 50 only).

  • Great song! I love the HOLLIES!!!

  • Wow what a dirty guitar sound.

  • who couldnt love this kind of music ,even my wife says i was ment for the classics ,im only 24 and this is the only music that gets me started .hi from bosnia.

  • 5*******

    Love it

    Terry !!

  • Great band love this track

    Terry

  • This is a nice song. Great group of the sixties. My favourite song of The Hollies is "I Can't Let Go".

  • havent heard this song since 4 years old listening to my dads 8 tracks in his El Camino.....mmmm

  • i like this song alot

  • Love it! Skinny you suck!

  • love this song, love the guitar

  • skinnyskaller, you're a friggin bleeding idiot. This is a great song and "Evolution" was a fantastic classic album. Great songs with the right sense of experimentation.

  • I must say this song somehow suits The Hollies better, its a bit rocky

  • Would you like some wine with your crackers? You already have the cheese!

  • scuse me ma'm i dont get your point?

  • I bought The EVOLUTIONLP in 1967 and it's remained one of my most favorite albums since then..the US version, including Carrie Anne. This song was a highlight for me. It's bright, peppy and full of hooks and yes, I think it would have sounded great as a single on the radio. Bobby's drumming is excellent throughout! I actually think The Hollies sounded better without Graham Nash at times.

  • My dear Wayne - Evolution is heavily influenced, even dominated, by Graham Nash.

  • I agreee and have nothing against Graham but at times his singing was terrible!

  • I understand why he left too, but this is a great song. Evolution is one of their best albums, along with Butterfly. The Hollies have some songs I don't care for, but this song rocks.

  • a great song, there is a spanish versión "LOS ANGELES"

  • Don't forget, the Everlys covered this on "Two Yanks in England." For me, the Hollies' version buries all the others. It's one of those moments when Bernie's bass (or is it Tony's?) steamrolls. But, yes, it got the cheap "album cut" production.

  • Love the Hollies but I think the Searchers version is far superior

  • Love hearing songs from my fav group especially when it's written by them (Hicks, Clarke, Nash). Thanks for posting this gem!

  • nice music!

  • This should've been a big hit for them, it's a great song.

  • I don't think they would care which version is the best, they get royalties from all three as they wrote it.

  • The Hollies rule the Hell out of this.

  • Wow, I'd never heard this. What an intelligent, well-crafted tune. A gem of the style.

  • when I was about 16 years old (around 1967), I had a penpall in England (Peter), who send me tapes with all the Holliessongs.. This was on it. Almost nobody knows this song! (never was a hit). Thank you, thank you, for all the good memories!

  • I couldn't believe this was the Hollies, until the harmonies kicked in. It sounds really subdued. Bobby Elliot is a hell of a drummer, but was completely lost in the mix. Whoever recorded and mixed this track didn't do them any favours. But....they are still one of the greatest bands ever!

Usher1cat. yes I prefer the Searchers version.

  • sorry still prefer Paul and Barry Ryan's

  • definetely going to my Hollies Playlist, right now!!!!!

  • One of my new favorite Hollies songs. Thanks for posting!

  • I'm glad you like it. :)
