don't care 'bout no movie but as far as this song goes... they just don't write em like that anymore. pretty much any "country music made after 1980 is nothing more than pop music with a twang.
I know I'm a couple months late on the A and G issue. The fact that they are syncing is not surprising at all. Just about every musical performance ever in a movie is pre-recorded. It's way easier and also achieves better results. The odd part about this video is that, as wildeucerocks mentioned, the recording is in G and Merle is pretending to play in A. Possibly he forgot what key the recording was in and didn't think it was important to match it. I have seen videos of him playing in F.
Wow the HAG in peak performace oneof my fav.merle said he did not like this song after writing it in his book sing me back home great book truthful a glimspe in his life told by him at modt libararys check it out great book and i love this song
No hate by me. Merle is the man. Been listening to him most of my life. Marty and Noel are pretty talented in their own right. Not everybody knows that he's got a couple of very talented kids. It's gotta be a great deal genetic, and somewhat environmental as well. I used to pump gas into his brother's car in Red Bluff Ca back in 1985. I'm just very curious about why he's fretting the wrong key in that video. I think the rest of the band may be faking to play in G. Merle is in A. ???
don't mean it like it's any "big deal". For the right amount of cash, Merle would play the star spangled banner backward in the key of "M", for "millions", and you know he could. I could just tell that he, at least, was playing in the key of A, and I have never, ever seen him play this song, in any thing other than the original key, which is G. Why would he do that for a lip-sync'd performance? There must be a reason. I'd like to know. And, I've got to see this movie.
@wilddeucerocks it could be overdubbed for sure... but why do you say the song is in G? Even if the original recording and sheet music are in G, it's not a big deal to change it to A for a particular performance. In any case, in the clip here, Merle is probably lip-syncing, you're right.
@wilddeucerocks The lead guitarist looks as if he is playing his solo in G. As has been pointed out, the film is terrible, but the song has become greatly valued.
@HansBooBee there are a few good performances... like this one... but the plot and acting are atrocious. Actually the sequel, "The Las Vegas Hillbillys" is better all around... starring Ferlin Husky, Jayne Mansfield and Mamie Van Doren. The country artists in "Las Vegas" are Bill Anderson, Connie Smith, Del Reeves, and Roy Drusky.
In this movie there is a scene where Merle is singing Someone Told My Story in a Song on TV and there is a man watching it, and when Merle was finished singing another guy came on the TV singing a song that said "shoes was she stepping out on me". Would anybody happen to know the name of that song, and the singer?? Thank You.
Hillbillys In A Haunted House and the movie for which it was a sequel, Las Vegas Hillbillys are far and away worth the price of admission for the wealth of superb performances by country music royalty that they contain. This Merle Haggard clip is but one example. Love it!!!!
Rest in peace, Ferlin Husky.

@wilddeucerocks It's not a very good movie ... the sequel: "Hillbillys in Las Vegas" is better... as I mentioned below.

WTF? Looks like he's playing in the key of A, but the song is in the key of G. Obviousy overdubbed. Am I imagining this? Am I just plain wrong?

Was this movie any good? I like cheese, but sometimes things are so bad, they're actually horrible.
