  • A fine gentleman, 20 years ago I was assigned as a body guard for him at a whoppin 8 dollars an hour. I felt like I was paid 100 an hour when he stopped and had a beer with me at the hotel. Like I said a gentleman.

  • I knew I should stay

    I knew I would go

    Simple. Perfect.

  • James maintains that he doesn't write his songs....he just writes them down when they're sent to him. (for what it's worth....his words, not mine)

That being said....this song is so beautiful and touching i get choked up every time i hear it.

  • This song is one of my favorite songs my J.T. It takes on a meaning for me that quite cant be explained here ---like a certain fragrance of something one may smell---it may have a smell that no one else can appreciate.

  • My Favorite! And I know them all.

  • God Bless you James Taylor. Beautiful song.

  • Saw him at the 02 in London last Friday. I smiled all the way through the show, and we all joined in with "Shower the People" & "You've got a friend" at the end. This is my favourite song of his at the moment, just beautiful...

  • Yeah, the grace of god. That must be it.

  • Having seen James numerous times in our city of Toronto he never disappoints keep on doing what your fans want just great music such as this gem .thank you James.

  • Just watched this on PBS. Simply lovely.

  • Went to Birmingham LG Arena Saturday 09-Jul-2011. Never seen him live, wanted to as part of my Bucket List. I was not disappointed. I am not a fanatical fan, but I love many of his songs. As he says he's written only 15, but played around with them 10 times each.

The concert was so relaxed, nice stories about the songs, good music. Just like being in his Front Room, with a cigar and bottle of scotch chatting all night long. A wonderful night, never to be forgotten.

  • Was at the concert last night in Glasgow..wonderful night, great music..James and his band did us proud..and we certainly gave him a fantastic welcome..he could hardly get off the stage!..A magical night, thank you JAMES.

  • Ive never seen anyone more comfortable in their own skin. A true musician, they are few.

  • One of the greatest treasures! What a great singer/song writer! His music will live forever...how could it not!

  • Greatest facial expressions while singing

  • This has captured my heart.........don't know why I haven't heard this song before, as I love Mr Taylor (but tend to listen to his older stuff more than anything new.) His music has been a part of my life for decades, and seems to follow me through the years and touch my heart in new ways as the days go by. Had the opportunity to see him and Carole King last year - what a wonderful concert, what a chance in a lifetime. Sing on James! Will always love and admire you.

  • @woggy3939 Please go get some of the newer albums! You are missing out on so much beautiful music.

  • How on Earth can this have gotten 3 dislikes? Well, there are some crazy people out there. :)

This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Wonderful.

  • A great song and I so enjoy his music

  • Touching. Every. Time.

  • I've been a die-hard JT fan for 40 years and he just gets better and better!! One of his lovliest ever:)

  • beautiful. james is peerless.

  • as a salesman, this song is so apt and I love it so much, had tears in my eyes when first listening to it....thanks for the lovely video posting

  • This is my Favorite James Taylor song! Seeing him again on 4/22/11. Met him once when he played w/the Houston Symphony, got picture with him and everything!

  • Seen him many times now - photos, hand shakes, compliments and all - and you know what? - he just cannot be beaten - a most incredible artist of the highest acclaim.

    Love James Taylor!

  • my favorite from this album <3

  • one more hiway song

  • Just sitting listening to this most remarkable artist on a Sunday evening and thinking

about work again tomorrow and all the shit that goes with it - and when you listen to James life doesn't seem so bad after all. Love James Taylor!!!

  • what 2 morons clicked dislike? lol. why?!

  • I agree that we are all blessed to have the likes of James Taylor with us in this troubled world....he is one of the very best in our generation of songwriters, a leader, an inspiration and a sparkling gem of a vocalist.....some saintly qualities! When I was young his voice and his music pulled me out from a deep depression...like magic!

  • Just a beautiful song. James is magic...and we get to see his wife in the Chorus sing!

  • Everyone should if they get the chance at least Once in their life attend a James Taylor Concert.....I dont know how he does it but ..all lifes troubles and hassles really do seem easier to deal with after a session with the best singer/songwriter of this generation......quite simply James Is MAGIC

  • James Taylor is an angel

  • @peniosasdasd - I completely agree with you, brother. I searched out the recorded versions of all the songs on this album and have to say, they just lacked... something. My personal favourites on this album are Travelling Star, Secret o' Life and The Frozen Man; I came across the album at a really hard time in my life and these songs, in particular, are helping me get through.

JT has a really beautiful voice and is a fantastic song writer - here's to many more years of listening.

  • I gotta say, he did the best versions of all the songs on One Man Band.

At least I Think so. Especially this song. Any of the songs could've been the finale and it would've been perfect.

  • Can't stop loving this song!

  • I love this song. Another great one by JT

  • Being a sales person , who is out on the road a lot, this song means so much to me.... Lovely and so peaceful

  • This is superb songwriting, I don't know how he does it. And how do you sync up a video to a live performance like that, amazing.

  • I enjoyed the accompaniment by the Tanglewood Festival Chorus.

  • Classic JT. Like a fine wine, he gets better as he gets older.

  • A heart breaker:-) This expression of human love and loneliness is deeply touching. We must remember not to swim too long in the deep end of human emotion--it is only temporary but the spirit of God which is in us is much much deeper. Joyous and fulfilling like we've never seen. No tears my friends. Hope fulfilled!

  • This and 'Shower The People are 10/10, I do hope James finds time to come back to London real soon From a real English fan

  • If I close my eyes...just as pristine the sounds as if sung on a CD in stereo...this song is very very moving. That's doggone James Taylor.

  • As a salesman, this song means a lot to me, esp when we are travelling...

  • james always spoke to the soul. yea james.

  • James Taylor's music is the best ever.

    James Taylor forever!!! :-DDD

  • Wow ...what a song.....just made my top ten....full of deeper meanings....voices of the angels.....song of the restless spirit...sung beautifully..encoe..bravo...

  • Would like to get an accurate tab out on the net! Most out there just don't sound right. I've got the intro/verse down, but can't match his chord changes on the bridge. Any help?

  • Forget about the tabs, my friend. Just learn the basic chords and make the song your own...

  • Do you think JT and JTT are related?

  • JT has spent the last 45 years writing beautiful music -- how does he keep doing it? Must be the grace of God.

  • @caraphyllis One fantastic talent....love the man!!

  • I love this song. James Taylor at his best. The DVD is great

  • Can't wait to see JT and Carole King next year!!!

  • Is he singing about himself as seen through the eyes of his children? "My daddy used to ride the rails...."

Sally sings backing on the album..so perhaps?

  • I remember hearing his father worked on the railroad early in his life. He was professor at UNC chapel hill NC... He seems like a guy you could just go up to and have a conversation. I have gone to countless concerts here in Charlotte NC... He is kind of a Billy Graham of music....wonderful...

  • Thanks.

Yes James has something very special

  • Five seconds in, my eyes were filled with tears. Oh, James. Thank you for such beautiful music.

  • Breathtaking! Love the harmonies. Different from the original, but this version adds another dimension.

  • This is beutiful music, especially the choire in the background !!

  • Did you know James's wife is in the choir and the video ?

  • No, I didn't know that, she must be a happy woman.....

  • The lady at 1.15 is James's wife.

  • Can someone please tell me how it is possible that every time I hear a JT song after some time I then proclaim it my new favorite? How can they all be my favorite? Sooo familiar.....sooo comfortable....yet still gives me chills! I LOVE IT!

  • I'm the same, everyone played with so much feeling, makes me very emotional, the man is absolutely fantastic, love him!

  • Doesn't get any better than this!!

  • i love you sandy.

  • i really wish that he would tour australia

  • So soothing....lovely!

  • I love JT. This song makes me cry every single time I listen to it because it strikes such a personal note. It's like he wrote the song just for me. Thanks for posting it.

  • 1962 was a good year

  • There are no words that can fully describe the beauty of James Taylor's voice accompanied by a choir of angels, what a great idea whith that choir James Taylor is like a bottle of good wine, better for every year !

  • wonderful song.. my ma died on monday just hope she can be my travelling star...

  • im so sorry tapper43. i'll pray for you

  • 1 more please

  • What kind of organ is that?

  • Isnt it an harmonium? Probably.

  • It is...I connected with Larry Goldings, the keyboardist playing it to find out.

    thank you.

  • It has a wonderful soft and "spiritual" sound to it... I guess because they could carry it around in the "old west" to play in far away chapels.

This song is just so beautiful and it covers you with a warm feeling of things gone but not forgotten.

  • hapy b.day 4 the 12th James

  • national treasure

  • Just another beautiful highway song! Thanks to geeflat for posting and Thanks to old JT for writing.Happy Birthday you old runaway dog, you just keep getting better and better!!

  • u guys know that's his wife in the choir at 1:15..?? kim smedvig.

  • Oh man, you've shattered my dream. I was just going to ask her to marry me! (the sheets and blankets lady at 1.15).

  • sorry buddy ur out of luck, lol. she is pretty but

  • And let me believe this is where I belong

    Shame on me for sure

    For one more highway song.

    Sorry, had to add this...

  • Watch his face when he sings "She told me she loved me like it was true."

I'd like to be that person.

  • I guess it was Joni Mitchell eh?

Cat, dog named blue, log cabin in Laurel Canyon with an old stove?

Yes, what a memory was in that line and that moist corner of the eye glance.

He just gets better and better with age.

    Lovely posting..thanks

  • He goes from strength to strength...The One Man Band concert proves it. Thank you for years of beautiful music, James.

  • a great country song.

  • I have this concert burned, I will share seen him 15 times in 5 states, this one is done with JT and a piano player and is the best I ever have seen except at Beacon

  • I`ve been a James Taylor fan since I saw him in concert so many years ago with Carole King. I thought no song he sung could ever be better than "You`ve Got a Friend" or "Carolina in my Mind". I was wrong. I first heard this song when I recently purchased "One Man Band" and saw the DVD which accompanied the CD. This is a wonderful song. The haunting melody is underscored by the choir in a touching manner.

  • it's great to see that James is still writing music like he used to, and hasn't veered off into some other genre that doesn't suit him at all.

I mean Paul McCartney has his new album with not so McCartney from the 70's songs and mor along the lines of today's music

And Springsteen with his gospel stuff although he's kind of layed off it.

but this isn't the place for opinions, its a lovely song and the album is fantastic (so is the dvd, i live his sense of humour, so subtle)

  • This is such a delicious song. Can hardly get over how lovely it is.

  • my dad was a lifetime trucker. i lost him june 6th, reminds of him alot. beautiful song jt

  • Saw the PBS special and got goose bumps when he and the choir sang this song. Absolutely beautiful! There are no words that can fully describe the beauty of James Taylor's voice accompanied by a choir of angels.

  • By far this is the best song James Taylor ever put together. The choir is great. It amazes me how he coordinated the performance. I saw this on PBS and my heart stopped with its simplicity and beauty. James Taylor is a gift to us all.

  • Certainly the best song this CD. I wish I could discover those interesting chord progressions he always seems to find. No one is better at it than he.

  • Wonderful - and I think the choir really adds to it.

  • I sang this song at my graduation. It reminds me of my grandpa (R.I.P) because he loved to travel. I miss him. :( It's a beautiful song.. I love james taylor.

  • ohh thankyou to know that it makes me feel so much better that u like ma comments...the song is great too!

  • my father showed me this DVD. it instantly got me into James Taylor.

this was one of my favourite tracks of the album.

  • Old JT is great at connecting the generations. We love to listen together.

  • great song on the album. but this is not a chorus song should of just done by himself

  • I prefer the original chorus. I think they are an octave higher in this video...

  • It's played a full note higher than the original. A full octave would be a stretch.. ;)

  • simply sublime.....

  • WHat can one say that hasn't already been said about JT? Simply the best...like the sayin' .....he's like old wine...just keeps gettin' better.

  • I love this version of "Traveling Star". The chorus just adds a whole different element to the song.

I was fortunate enough to see James in concert a few years ago and I hope to be able to see him again. He is one of the few artists whose music touches me so much it brings me to tears.

  • I agree with you on this version of "Traveling Star" - it's a very lovely version.

James Taylor's music also brings tears to my eyes at times. It is cool to find another person who reacts the same way as I do. His music sure is incredible.

  • one of the best songs ever sung.....

    i salute.

  • Probably the greatest of all times...

I was at the concert in Rome yesterday...

    Great.
