  • Sonny went back to Canada and retire?Does anyone know?

  • @tvgrice67 There is no reason for Sonny to return to Canada, since he was born in Alabama.

He retired in 1983, though sources disagree on his current hometown. One cites Nashville another Alabama. But all of that aside, I am personally very thankful for Sonny's performances and the technologies that allowed them to be preserved and shared.

  • @tvgrice67 no SONNY JAMES LIVES IN NASHVILLE,TN WITH HIS WIFE HE HANGS OUT WITH HIS BACKUP SINGER (A LAWYER) AND HIS WIFE I GOT MY GIRLFRIEND KATHY A AUTOGRAPH PICTURE OF HIM BY THE WAY OF BILL ANDERSON ,

  • Wow! Just wow! Both Sonny's version as well as the Seekers' version are great!

  • And how can you even try to compare such music with all this sh*t of today...

  • Fantastic...Back I go to my youth and a much happier time in my life and in the world.

  • Great rendition.... also check out the Seekers version. They made this great Tom Springfield a hit in 1963 in the UK. Sonny does some great pickin here. Also check out his and the Seekers' versions of Tom Springfiled's I'll never Find Another You

    Great great music.

  • thank you mr. sonny james now i know who played that hot lick guitar ALL the way through!great singer& GREAT tallent unseen in todays so called country muisic

  • What a great talent, truly one of the nicest voices ever in country or pop music, makes you feel great just hearing him sing, and yes he is also a very talented guitar player. How i wish i could have seen him live in concert, and how i wish country musicians today could even come close to making this kind of soulful, talented music again...Sorry Garth your over-the-top, rope swinging garbage is not even on the same planet as Sonny.

  • This is one of the most underrated entertainers of his time. Besides being a great vocalist he was a gifted interpreter of lyric and an intimidating guitarist. He was one of the best liked and most respected Nashville performers ever among other performers. His retirement was voluntary, and he will forever be a legend in country crossover. Thanks for the music Sonny.

He is surely missed. I still have a '78' Capital recording of "Young Love" which I purchased in1957 when I was 15.
