The SFPD is escorting them and is doing a very poor job of it. The same rules apply here as with any funeral procession. The escort is supposed to maintain better traffic control. In these critical mass processions there appears to be no control whatsoever. It's only a matter of time before someone is killed.

And after the Mesolithic period there haven't been any stateless societies, apart from some small communes.

I'm all for raising awareness for a good cause. Critical Mass isn't. In my experience with Critical Mass all they do is cause inconvenience.
They claim to be trying to help the environment, lobby for equal rights on the road, etc. Well what good does it do when you're blocking people at intersections, making them sit idle? You are right. The cyclist are creating and exacerbating the problem. Also the city of San Francisco can be held responsible for any injuries as a result of these processions. The SFPD is escorting them and is doing a very poor job of it. The same rules apply here as with any funeral procession. The escort is supposed to maintain better traffic control. In these critical mass processions there appears to be no control whatsoever. It's only a matter of time before someone is killed.

Using your bike to commute includes you ride it on the road, if you ride only for fun then it's normal you use only bike trails. By driving your car for a primary way of transportation you made a choice, cyclists made another. They don't pollute, they don't justify reef drilling and etc.

the early hunter-gather system obviously didn't involve trading, since they didn't have a surplus of food, and therefore couldn't specialize. It's also only logical that if people use resources at a faster rate then it takes for those resources to form, then the resources will run out. It takes 10+ years for a tree(lumber) to grow, but it takes millions of years for fossil fuels to form. And after the Mesolithic period there haven't been any stateless societies, apart from some small communes.

I am amazed how everyone assumes humans are vile, greedy, selfish creatures who are completely incapable of compassion or self-sacrifice. True these are human emotions, and it is in our nature to be concerned about ourselves, but it's also in our nature to be compassionate to others. not in the manner of Critical Mass - this isnt about sharing the road with these people, its about taking over the road, blocking traffic and interrupting commerce. if they had threatened MY wife like that, you can bet your ass thered be more than just a busted bike.
