I made this last night for dinner and it turned out pretty good I loved the flavors. I will definitely make this again, but I'm gonna double the shrimp/crab because I like mine a bit more on the meaty side. Also I used the Campbell's Tomato Bisque instead of regular Tomato soup. And I didn't use butter.
Betty, I finally got the chance to make this bisque this evening.. actually, I'm still eating it, but I had to stop for a second to jump online to tell you that I've definitely found my new favorite soup! This is so good and I LOVE that it's so simple to make!
Betty, I'm not sure if you'll get a chance to answer, but have you (or anyone else here who makes it..?) tried freezing this soup? I would love to make it since I adore seafood *anything*, but unfortunately I would be the only person in the house who would eat it. So, I would either need to cut the recipe in half or freeze a good majority of it.
Yes, you can freeze this soup. It will be great if you freeze it in a container, then let it thaw in the refrigerator, and heat it on the stove. It will be just like freshly made bisque. It is harder to achieve the same results by just putting it in the microwave. Thanks for your question!
Hi Betty I love seafood and this bisque looks quite easy to make. I am sure that it will taste so good. Thank you for sharing this with us all -much appreciated :-) Richard
This is an awesome recipe. It's proof that you CAN make bisques in a healthy way. I love a good lobster bisque, but it's expensive and loads of work. Actually, a good bisque or chowder doesn't have to be expensive or unhealthy. If you use the right ingredients, it can be just like the original and a bit healthier.
@LynnM3973 Thanks, Lynn! You can tell that I am really behind on answering comments! But that doesn't mean that I don't think of you often! Have a beautiful day!
Hi betty, how many calories are there in this soup do you think? I try to stay away from all cream based soups, but you keep saying that this is healthy and the soup looks so good!!! It's so attempting and hard to resist!! It would be nice if you can calculate the calories and put the info down in the side bar so that I know how much fat is in each serving!! Thanks!!1
This is certainly healthy for a bisque (which is a cream soup). You can cut down on calories and fat by omitting the butter. Also, do without the crackers. The way I made it, the whole recipe has a total of 1,030 calories. I think it would make 6 generous servings, so that would be about 170 calories per serving. Omit the butter, and it's 140. The recipe I made has 35 grams of fat. Omit the butter, and it has only 13 grams of fat, about 2 g per serving. I hope this helps!
It is not necessary to rinse either of the seafoods in this recipe. I did it because I didn't want the seafood flavor to overpower the bisque ingredients. It's just a matter of taste. Thanks for asking!
Nicely done, thanks for sharing! I think I am going to have to take some BBQ smoked soup out of the freezer! Your show is great! I am making a lot more healthier foods that taste great! You are very inspiring and my food quality has improved to the point we do not go out to each much as it is better at home!
Thank you for making such a wonderful show that inspired a healthy and tasty lifestyle change!
@JimboJitsu Thanks for your nice comment! You can see that I'm just a little bit late on answering. My channel just got away from me a couple of months ago. i will probably never catch up, but I wanted you to know that I truly appreciate every comment that you make!
This is kinda funny... I took the last of the soup out of the freezer yesterday.
according to my comment I took some out then too... I don't think I can eat canned soup again, thanks for showing how easy it is!
I know what you mean about Youtube, I have a fraction of the subscribers you have and I lose comments all the time. I can't imagine with all the comments how you keep up!
Betty -- do you not get in trouble for showing the labels of products? Some shows blur them out or turn the packaging around so the brand isn't shown. I don't see any negative impact of showing the brands but there might be some legal reason for why tv cooking shows hide the labels?
No, it is educational video... She is not trying to be them or other things... In this case she educated us to that brands healthy choice. Youtube has a list of things you can do when making your videos if you would like more detail. I was wondering why some people blur out their stuff, I know some people do it as they don't want to promote a particular company. One company even helped Betty make sure she could find her favorite mustard she used on her show... all good things!
@teflondon91 No one has ever said anything to me about showing labels. I believe they are blurred out on TV, because the company is not sponsoring the show, and the show does not want to give them credit. On the other hand, I am happy to tell my viewers what I'm using, so that they have all the information.
I find some bisques too smooth mainly the blended kind... its like baby food without chunks of seafood in there! Are the campbells Heathy Requests any lighter in MSG and sodium? I want to do a seafood gumbo or chowder one of these days but it gets expensive if you want to add in everything under the sea!
I had some regular cream of chicken soup and some Healthy Request cream of chicken soup in my pantry. The MSG amount is so small that there is no amount given for comparison. The regular had 870 mg sodium, while HR had 410 mg. For calories, the regular had 120, HR had 80. For fat, the regular had 8 gm, HR had 2.5 gm. For cholesterol, the regular had 10 mg, HR had 5 mg. I almost always use Healthy Request (or similar). I don't know why I even had that one regular can in my pantry!
Hi Betty! -- Thanks for responding to my comment as always. I imagine the reason that there is no measure of MSG on Campbells soup cans is because MSG (monosodium glutamate) is a type of sodium salt and it's concentration in the volume of the soup is probably incorperated into the total sodium percentage specified on the can ;)
good recipe...and your an amazing looking women betty :) i really mean that.

tv hides labels because it's free advertising and they don't want to give out free advertising :)
