Real Masculinity is not about the social masculine roles fixed by the society.
Real, natural masculinity is a very simple thing. It's about having a male inner-sex identity or a male gender as against having a female inner sex identity or a feminine gender.
Manhood is about a male having a masculine gender.
However, masculinity needs membership of men's spaces to develop itself. Without this, it remains undeveloped.
Intimacy between men, is integral to a man's masculinity and hence manhood. And, sexuality between men is the source of this intimacy. In nature, as in non-western societies, almost all men exhibit sexual need for other men, and the difference between gay and straight is that of feminine and masculine, that of non-men males (third gender) and 'men' males.
Unfortunately, the west bars men's spaces (termed as straight), and hence manhood, to men who acknowledge intimacy needs for another man.
That's why, men who acknowledge their sexuality for men in the west look so lesser masculine, because they are so barred from men's spaces, leaving them with undeveloped masculinity, socially and personally disempowered, and with extra-social femininity imposed upon them by mixing them together with the third genders (or feminine males) under a common 'homosexual' identity.
