Your lucky it was just a baby and it did not kill you. They are VERY venomous, and there is no antidote for their stings. Blue-ringed octopus are dangerous when provoked.

What a cute little thing! But yes, one of the deadliest venomous animals in the world, and it only shows the yellow and blue when it's upset as a warning that it may bite...I guess it never quite felt like it had to. So lucky!

The bite might be painless, but this octopus injects a paralysing venom. The venom contains a poison more potent than any found on land animals. The nerve conduction is blocked and paralysis is followed by death. There's no known antidote.

The senses of the patients are often intact. The victims are aware but unable to respond.

Not a pleasant way to go, fully conscious, paralyzed and slowly suffocating to death as everyone around you freaks out helplessly.

@Chazzrat A general rule in Australia (which has millions of poisonous animals), would be not to touch anything if you don't know what it is. This guy is lucky, but it could have been a fatal mistake. So yes, he is ignorant.

Blue ring octopus have extremely venomous bites. Death from total muscle loss is almost certain. You would have been totally paralysed and suffocated to death fully conscious of the panicked cries of your friends around you. You don't know how lucky you are.
