I got my resignation confirmation through on October 14th 2011, and I've not even scratched the surface of discovering who I actually am. Even when I had been less active, except for getting tattoos and leading a non church life, I still never tried to figure that most important question out. Mormonism has a lot to answer for, and it's heart breaking when you see some decent people still being fooled by it.
I too, left the LDS church after 54 years and have no regrets. I have found the God I never new, the one in the Bible, "A God of Spirit." It's been a year and they still have not removed my name from their member list, as I have often requested. I still get home teachings through the mail. It seems that once you join they won't let you go. I guess it's to keep their member count high.
Thanks so much Anita. This story resonates with me and is very similar to my story. Thanks for sharing. I love your storybook! That's a great way to tell your story and to read it and post it here is also a great idea. Your voice is soothing.
This is beautiful and really touching. Thank you for sharing your story. I know you will touch the lives of many by doing so.
I think the scrapbooking/self-reflective style of the video will be relatable with so many lds women. I like that your story shows that it was the truth you learned about the church that caused you to leave and not the typical lds rumors of sin, etc. May God Bless you in your journey for the truth, having courage, and living a full life!
This almost brought me to tears. I am on my way out of the church. It has been such a hard and painful decision to make. I am scared but I know it is the right thing to do. I cannot live a lie. Thank you.
Your story is duplicated so many times over. See me on Youtube:
Edy Meredith Testimony.
I left the mormon church in 1970--there was no internet, no pathway, no directions for those who left mormonism at that time. See my story on Youtube. Oh freedom, Oh liberty............what a wonderful state of mind.
Good Story but one thing do..Only fools follow they hearts. The reason you are out of this crap is because of your brain! Follow your brain and you will achieved!
Follow your heart and you'l end up in the same situation.
@daltoninoliver , exactly right! She followed her brain, not her heart. The heart is decietful above all things!(quote from Jeremiah I believe). The heart tells you many things, all of which are not always true. The heart tells the muslim the quran is true. The heart tells the mormon the BoM is true. The heart tells the christian it is true, and so on and so on...They may all have bits of truths, but they cannot all be true even though peoples hearts have convinced them of such.
Wonderful video. It is hard to acknowledge I have been manipulated by people I love. My therapist is helping me. I am still proud of my heritage, I still love my family, but like you said: The time to be happy is now, the place to be happy is here!
Thanks. I was BIC (born into the church), but I always had a questioning spirit. However, the question "is the LDS church REALLY true?" NEVER entered my conscious mind--I always asumed it was and bore testimony to that effect. As the result of a conversation I had with Elder Dallin Oaks (via mail), the question was "forced" into my consciousness. I was determined to find out. Within 3 months the house of cards (the Mormon story) fell apart--answering ALL LDS questions.
Any intelligent person in the church will find they cannot deny that the church is based on a lie and fraud. I am grateful to be out of the church. Having been raised Mormon, it was difficult. It really shapes you. Mormons aren't bad people, but they are brainwashed from an early age and conditioned so deeply they are totally unaware.
Repeating the praise of other. Well told and inspiring video.
I have given up twice in my life. Gave up mormonism and booze. Mormonism first then booze 14 years later. Knowing when to leave the falsity behind is an important life lesson.
Thank you for telling your story. I joined the church a couple of years ago. Fortunately I was in my early thirties and was disturbed by the psychology of the church especially with testimonial sunday and hearing a four year old being told what to say by a so called adult whispering in their ear. And the whole leave it to beaver suzie homemaker way of life where everyone seems to be a copy of a copy and no one is interesting or unique.
Resignation letter sent to records department, followed by an inevitable call to Greg Dodge since the church will completely jerk you around contrary to what is legal.
Bravo!!! Beautiful presentation. Throughout the entire presentation I kept nodding my head and saying YES,YES, YES! I left years ago but am still unraveling the 13 years of my life that I spent as a devout Mormon.
Thank you for sharing your very poignant and sincere story. Amazing how my life's path has been very similar to yours, and I keep meeting more and more people who feel the same. Just wonderful that we are finding our voices and our freedom! Thanks again - I like your style!
Thank you for your cogent, heartfelt, studious and beautiful story. Having left the LDS church several years ago, your story resonated strongly with me.
A wonderful story, beautifully told! Thank you for sharing. Although it is so similar to thousands of other stories by former Mormons, the scrapbook framework makes it unique.

Good, but typical story.
From what I have seen, and read, most LDS members stay in the " church " until they find out for themselves they have been lied to.
Missionary's, thru no fault of themselves, as they are brainwashed from childhood, share the LDS gospel with others, but share a false gospel.
Smith was a liar, the LDS church is a big lie, and the word of men is also false.

After 40 years in the church, I left for many of the same reasons cited here. Best decision I ever made.
