You never hear Japanese people talking down on Koreans or any other people/culture. I used to think there was a rivalry between the two countries, but after having taught English in Japan for 3 years, I'm convinced that the argument is one-sided. It's always Koreans bashing Japan. I understand Japan invaded Korea back in 1910. But to blame the people of today for what happened 100 years ago is just non-sense.
@LexusLawyer First off, you have no idea about the fucking invasion, that turned into a 36 year long occupation. That's not even why most Koreans dislike japanese people. The main reason is that japan will not even apologize about the invasion/occupation, they went so far as to erase it from their history books. So, the next time you want to speak upon something you have no idea about do some research.
@jexicon Also, for your future reference: if you rape a girl, give her a bunch of money, and then go on and say raping her is ok because you've compensated her financially, you are actually still raping her. At least in america. Things might be a little different from where you come from i dunno.
@jexicon Right. So lemme just clarify your position here. You're saying that what Japan did to Korea, Taiwan, the rest of Asia was justified because they contributed to the development of modern Asia and more specifically South Korea? Also, your point of view that Japan "developed" Korea is a very Japanese perspective. From the Korean point of view, if Korea wasn't enslaved and repressed for 30+ years, we would actually have progressed beyond Japan a long time ago
@jexicon That is a pretty ludicrous and idiotic statement to make... that's like saying if it weren't for the slaveships bringing black people over to america, they wouldn't have the freedoms of living in a first world country that they enjoy now.
Just more typical japanese bullshit. You are giving other, good and reasonable japanese people a bad name. We could always try the other way around with korea occupying japan for thirty some years i'm sure that would go down real well with you.
Its the truth I did not just say Korea... Taiwan as well this nothing something to argue with it is something to acknowledge. I am just saying Japan was instrumental in the development of both countries just like how Britain was with its colonies. Japan was oppressive to korea/taiwan yes but progressive. Japan is vital for technology transfer to korea.Semiconductors and many other technologies were transfered from Japan to Korea via jp companies during the past 30 years.
Any reasonable person knows that Japan industrialized Korea under its rule, it is well documented. America and Japan aided Korea in its development of industry, infrastructure, and technology. America needed a strong South Korea to fend off the Communist North so extensive aid and capital was given over the years in some cases more than the entire continent of Africa.Whether Koreans like it or not Japan was instrumental in the development of industry ,infrastructure, and education in Korea.
Japan developed korea's industrial base not to mention Taiwan's as well. Samsung and Hyundai had technology transfered from Japanese companies ( Mitsubishi, and for Samsung Sharp and Sanyo.) If Japan didn't colonize Korea and if America didn't give Korea billions in aid , Korea wouldn't be where it is in 2010, maybe in 2050 instead. I think that Koreans should stop hating Japanese because to be honest the hate isn't as mutually strong.Korean Pride is more like supremacy than just pride. ;)
It's because pre-20th century, Korean ancestors cultured/educated Japanese ancestors but instead of gratitude, Japanese invaded Korea numerous times. Plus, Japanese are jealous of Koreans being the tallest in Asia, and USA (validated by the recent world height record)
@tmdwls930 What does driving a Toyota have anything to do with them talking about korean pride? you expect them to be wearing korean slippers everyday too I bet huh? If he was gung ho about korean pride he wouldnt even be in the states, he'd be in korea faaaar in the country eatin korean bbq with ya mom homie.
i take pride in being korean too and our history but some of this feels like its coming from the wrong place
i dont think korea should necessarily be taking pride in becoming a nation of robots (s. korea puts in the most hours of work in the world) so to have pride on the basis that we westernized unbelievably is a little skewed. japan's bubble burst and the same is bound to happen to hyper capitalistic korea. in a sense a lot of koreans are losing a sense of who they are
even though it was just a reaction to literally almost losing everything to the japanese during imperialization. i feel like japan is receding while korea is marching forward a little too greedily. now we argue over the fact that samurai came from korea or sushi is from korea when thats all bullshit, we just forget what really makes us, like how taekkyon is our actual martial art and tkd is a karate hybrid. instead of trying to show up japan and the world korea just needs to keep true
to its real self in every aspect and it will be fine. to me its not about our cars or the tvs or the boybands we pump out, if thats how we determine the value of ourselves then its blind pride.
