  • The beautiful Golden Hare...I ask the Angels to protect them and all the hares on the Island!

  • Ah the Golden Hare is magic...so beautiful and so wonderfully Irish, I would love to be to paint a picture that is about the golden hare. I amazed at how beautiful they all are on the island,

  • Damn i can't wait to move to Ireland. The landscapes beautiful... where is this?

  • I can only repeat what has already been said. Your presentation is excellent so lets hope BBC's Springwatch will employ you as you are a big improvement on that lot. I am a member of the hare presentation trust and so this is what drew me to your video. Your irish voice is beautiful. You are welcome to take a look at some of my carrion crow videos on utube.

  • @johnwantling thanks very much for your kind comments JW. Don't think I'd make it to the BBC cause of the accent:)

Going to see your birds now, all the best.

  • BEST KEPT SECRET LOST.

Rathlin is the only place you can see Hare living, unmolested these days. Ask an Islander and they will tell you their are no hare on the Island. By their denial they have kept the potchers and guns off them. This has not helped their cause.

  • Wow! This is the very first blue eyed Golden Hare I've seen! It is indeed an unusual bunny! Thanks to the sheer brilliance of Tom McDonnell!

The seal floating and sunning himself was too adorable! Next time I'm over..I'm planning on a day trip to Rathlin Island.

Thank you SO much for posting!

  • He is a excellent photographer and you are a wonderful film maker. I really enjoyed this.

    Thank you.

  • Class video would have been nice to have heard some of the answers, cut off in nearly question asked.

    Nice though :)

  • Thanks very much for your comments.

You are right too, I'll have to learn to keep quiet and perfect our editing skills:)

    Wishing you all the best.

  • Such an entreating video. I like the way you interview. Lovely creatures and locations. So

    peaceful.

    Thanks sweeties.

    MamaM

  • Thanks MML.

Interview technique - you are very kind. We are still learning not to interrupt when people are talking, and not to ask long winded questions...

  • If you like photography, wildlife or both you should visit Rathlin Island and meet Tom, my Uncle T. He is inspirational, charming and likeable, as glimsed in the video. What you see of him is just the tip of the iceberg.

Andrew McDonnell somewhere in the north sea.

  • Thanks for you comments Andrew. It was lovely to meet your uncle T on Rathlin. We were very fortunate to meet just by chance and spend some time together. We are making a fine art print on the Golden Hare, and a curlew that we saw on the island shortly. Your uncle T has given us some photos for colour reference. Watch this space:)

  • The scenery and photos are so inspiring!!!! Lovely!!!One day ladies....you'll see me there{:

  • Thanks very much Poetess, it would be lovely to see you here, and when you come, pack good weather:)

  • Great video. I enjoyed your interview and the photos so much.

  • Thank you very much for your comments, much appreciated.

  • Such a beautiful video!

I enjoyed the conversation/interview you had with Tom, with that beautiful landscape. His photos are stunning!

  • Thanks Mr.

Tom was just great to talk to, and you are so right - his photos are stunning.

  • This is fascinating. He's got such an engaging personality, you are so very sweet. I love the beginning where you're both on that pretty road, the gentle breeze blowing, the cloudless sky above, it seems I'm there too...

  • Thanks very much FK. Can you believe that weather in Ireland? It was such a beautiful evening, on a lovely island. It's great to have the video to remind us of that.

When talking to Tom about where his interest in photography came from, I wasn't expecting the answer he gave us. He did good.

  • That was enjoyable to hear Tom speak and to see the wonderful scenery, exceptional video ladies!:)

  • Thanks very much aj. Your comments are very much appreciated.

AJ you'll be receiving a video very soon from us, your channel is mentioned in it, talk soon, all the best:)

  • That's a sad story about his brother. When my grandmother's house caught on fire she was dragged out before she could get the family photos. The story is she bit a fireman in the arm that wouldn't let her go back in for them.

  • Chopin 65, thanks for your comments. The story about your grandmother shows how much photographs are valued. Will that change with the new digital methods of documenting our life histories?

  • The new digital is a new format. That is the big change. How long can it last on line? Will someone house it on a flash drive somewhere and then it will show up a hundred years later as some rare document? Libraries here in America are becoming digital depositories in the same way they once housed books. Very interesting questions. This man is doing important work though. Thanks.

  • Thanks C65 for your comments.

  • Fantastic!! I really enjoyed this. I know exactly the feeling he was describing about that moment with the hare. Brilliant interview you've done here. 5/5 :D Jess

  • Thanks Jess, wishing you all the best

  • oh I SO want one of them camera's!!!!! What beautiful photo's! And a wonderful place! Thank you for sharing that x

  • Thanks very much for your comments WS.

Would you really want one of those cameras?

It would be an interesting experience to use one. Wishing you all the best.

  • Wonderful interview! -Dennis

  • Thank you Dennis.

  • First class photographs Tom and Clare you did well to capture with this video interview such a charmingly mannered man.

  • Thanks DW. You are right, Tom is a brilliant photographer. It was a pleasure talking to him about his work and what motivated him to begin his career in photography.

  • i think he is trying to compensate for something with such a big lens, love and respect scotty and libby:0)

  • He's a professional photographer Scotty.

I want a camera just like that one - for taking photees:)

All the best to you both.

  • Hi Clare--Wonderful interview of Tom McDonnell. So glad he moved out to the island so he can take such BEAUTIFUL pictures :) I cannot wait to see the Irish countryside :D

  • Thanks K. Lets hope you get such brilliant weather.

Ireland is really spectacularly beautiful when the sun shines. It's simply regularly beautiful when it rains:)

  • I will GLADLY take Ireland either way in August :) Anything to escape our Italian 95 degrees with humidity like this weekend :)

  • You'll get plenty of fresh air in Ireland - we don't do humidity. Hope you get some comfort in that humidity. All the best to you.

  • Then put Denise on the keyboard... I have one more big lens joke, but I'm still building up the nerve. OOOOOOOOOkay, I'll keep it to myself.

Bottom line: great vid as usual!

  • then make that "Be Well my dear friendS" :)

  • It's footage like this that makes me glad Al Gore invented the internet. Not only was the videography great, but the interview seemed seamless and had a good amount of depth.

Okay now I have to find a map because the only location mentioned that I knew was Belfast.

I was glad he spoke Canon-ese and did you get a look at that lens!?!?!?! I think I have Pentax envy! (can you say that on the net?)

Tell me I didn't type "seemed seamless"

    Be Well my dear friend,

    FSTOPDR

  • I'm an award winning photographer as well, but the state fair seems small now. :)

  • Congratulations on your award.

Rathlin Island is off the Antrim Coast - Northern Ireland, just around the coast from Belfast, going towards Derry.

  • Brilliant bit of film.

  • I was there:)
