Ok dude, your not telling me you find this out on your own, you looked it up just as everyone else xD.... don't talk in your vid like you discovered it all by yourself
@SharinganSX1995 You are correct, I am not telling you I found this out on my own. I said "this is something completely awesome that I discovered" and that can be taken how you did, or that I discovered that you can access those games. Did I say I found it all by myself? Nope. Discovery takes place in all sorts of ways, including seeing a blog post about it and trying it myself. I guess you'd have wanted me to say "I discovered that this is something you can do"
@phreakindee Yea well, i just tought it sounded like you said you found out about this, like you were the source of this and i had this tought of.... NO WAY xD but anyway what you said in your reply is correct but i like the video though, don't see me as a hater now ;)
i installer black ops but after installation some file is missing can you help me out,my email id is lalit07yadav@live.com.. n the file name which is missing is d3dx9-433.dll..please help.
@phreakindee, getting breathless over the geekiness is now called a "gamegasm" - which is used when open and old game box you own and getting misty eyed over the huge manual and poster or whatever, or in your case, going back over 20 years in your gaming history! :)
I say this has someone who own the Infocom Collection, that has all 30 infocom adventures with the manuals, extras and hint books! It was released about a decade ago and I snapped it up! :) I also have big box Suspended and Deadline
@HardWarUK Gamegasm certain applies as a term for this. What's the term for intense jealousy of your complete Infocom Collection? Very nice, been looking out for those collections the company released. I only have Zork in the box.
@phreakindee I believe there is a version where the manuals and hint books are just pdf's that can be bought quite cheap on ebay, amazon, etc. And to add to your pain, I also have the full box Sherlock Holmes adventure and still have the key fob that came it in my pocket, a decade old and still perfect condition. You didn't get rubbish from Infocom....!!!!
@Flalaski Don't think so, though I've some text-based multi-user "door games" like Legend of the Red Dragon / Green Dragon... but from what I understand those are a bit different? In any case, I love me some interactive fiction.
LGR...hit up google and type in "man" and one of those commands. For example, the "cat" displays the contents of a file. So when you did a "cat" and one of those .snd files, it played the sounds. You can also cat those .txt file you saw. It looks like a cross between DOS/Unix.
Also try, "df -h", "ifconfig", "route", "cd /etc" and then do a "dir" or "ls" just to see.
@MrKaelstrom 60 bucks is a small price to pay for Infocom goodness on a modern machine, haha! Now where's my Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Planetfall... in CoD: Even Moderner Warfare, perhaps?
Hey can someone solve this type login jfkennedy and it will get you to his login but I don't know what to do I know it will get you some info but please help
Oh man, thanks for showing this! What cool easter eggs! I used to play Zork way back when on my Atari 800XL, until the disk crapped out for who knows why. I find it hilarious and awesome that it is in Black Ops. lol
@niceandgames Hehe, it is hilarious indeed. As you can tell in the video I was totally geeking out over this. I mean, it's sad since I own a boxed original of Zork, but this is just rad. Totally worth the cost of admission.
Could all the text files and things be some background story about the zombie mod? Or even the title screen, why exactly are you sitting there.. And what if the creepy guy is a zombie? And you would be the the only survivor of the whatever-facility you are in because you were chained there? What if there's a whole game hidden in the title screen like that? o_o So many questions... Or I just have a wild imagination.
That man is Hudson, your CIA handler. He is trying to extract information from you because you shot Steiner. bad guys going to release NOVA gas on the US, gas that kills people before they hit the ground. You have the ability to decode the numbers, which hold the location of the site where they will launch the gas.
The txt files are easter eggs and such basically giving background story. Also logging in as presidents nets you information - JFK gets a message with a "or else
I came in here thinking "This isn't like LGR to review something others are already covering" but then I got to the system part and my mind was blown. Thank you man
Yea Unix shell! Or at least the $ sign is from Unix. I'm on my Macbook and just to double check I opened terminal and surely enough there is the $ sign. Weird how in the game though is runs just like dos (which I know and prefer BTW) Great Easter egg!!
Not sure if that's DOS... the prompt was $, which I don't remember ever from DOS... I do remember from *nix though. :) That may also explain why you had to log in, on the screen (well, was done for you), and why rlogin was available... all *nix things. Worth seeing if "ls" works in place of "dir" :)
Reminds me of the pearl of bashing from NWN: Hordes of the Underdark, lol. I fell out of my chair laughing at that one. :)
@taragwendolyn Yup, it's got some *nix stuff in there for sure. I was trying to think of what it looked like but hey, I know DOS and CP/M so I see some DOS and CP/M. Funny how that works. It's an interesting mashup, I'm just happy to see something like this in such a high-profile modern game.
Who would have thought they'd release Zork for the PS3. Does the "put bag in bag" trick work? How about putting things in the boat, then deflating the boat? I think Zork was the first game I really glitched in order to beat.
I don't know what it is, but the idea of using a computer within a game is neat. I remember playing VTMB, and it had a console that was specific to doing things in the game. Looking at this game compared to VTMB, I would have to say that VTMB's console was very shallow, purposefully, and there's a lot of easter egg opportunities by having a disk operating system full of hidden information within files, and the only requirement is having to know how to use DOS or Unix.
@FloppyFormatFrenzy The only thing I wonder is if they implemented all of the commands internally or if they're piping the commands from the hard disk which may mean that everything is accessible from within the game's directory; most likely than not, it's simply compiled apart of the main game.
your actually loving life :L
