  • Semmangudi's master piece Begada was in MA 1957 Katcheri wherein Pappa was following in violin so nicely. It was a great performance by Semmangudi,Pappa &VR, especially Begada,Bhairive and Dhenuka pieces.

  • Sri Semmagudi's rendition of this song so far is the best. I took to Sri Semmangudi's music after hearing this song Vallaba Nayaka in the national program of ALL INDIA RADIO.Another great kriti of SEmmangudi is "Amba Kamakshi" by Shyama Shastri. MS amma learned this swara Jati from SRi SEmmagudi. I request you to post that kriti in Ragam Bairavi. Many thanks.

  • To enjoy karnataka music neads an openness to what enjoyable music is not unlike liking concrete modern music of John Cage and others.

  • iyers are awesome.

  • BTW, this is Rupakam.. The DD intro sheet says Adi talam which is not correct.

  • In Chennai DD, all songs are Adi. At least they have the sense to telecast something good like this, unlike Su(n) TV.

  • TN Krishnan became what he is today by playing for stalwart vocalists like SSI and Madurai Mani. Who else would allow the violinist to have the last say in the kalpana swaram! Surely, today's vocalists have a thing or two to learn from Semmangudi in terms of bringing up and encouraging accompanying artistes.

  • He is actually my great grandfather. I am really serious. My dad, Hariharan swaminathan's grandfather is him. I am not joking. But I only saw him once when i was 2 years old

  • Terrific ! Thanks Vichella. Do you have any of Madurai Mani

  • A giant of a musician in the league of greats like Madurai Mani, Ariyakudi , GNB and so on. We were lucky that we got to see him perform live . Thanks vichella. Do you have any by Madurai Mani ?

  • Do you see the crispness of Laya (rhythm) and Raaga (melody) harmoniously blended and spontaneously forthcoming from the maestro's imagination? It has been so since his youth. Secret? Secret: Tri-kaala-sandhya, that is thrice daily meditation Gaayatri, with worship of Sandhya, w/o.which no originality.Corresponds to Zen, if you like.

  • it is an super and an excellent video there is no words to expalin or say about these music mastreos

  • I heard him a lot of times and i love this one like every other one.

  • A rare and excellent collection. Thanks for uploading.

  • I can imagine Appar's voice to sound like semmangudi's

  • May God bless his soul. He makes it look so effortless, as if it was a part of his every breath. His voice is transcending and leaves me speechless. Thank you for posting this.

  • divine voice...he was told at a young age by a ghanjira player that he will not amount to a singer...look at him now

  • was he really?

  • how can we download this one??

  • go 2 dl you tube which is a commercial site...

not allowed write any site name ... hope ur able 2 figure it out

  • fabulous

  • semmangudi 'mama' (as he is fondly known) is the greatest gift to the music world.we can learn so much from just listening to him.tnk and uks are second to none in their respective professions

  • Hahahahahaha everybody seems to be talking about Donkeys. At least the Indian music critic SUBBUDU (died recently) would be happy to hear this.

  • whts that suppose to mean?

  • Subbudu was a notorious music critic who made alot of enemies by criticising some of the most famous musicians in India.

  • Fantastic! I never had a chance to see him in concert. This is a great video, thanks for posting.

  • Love it! How can someone have such a good voice at that age? And he is so absorbed in the music..nice to watch

  • Real legend..wat a voice he have got even at an age of 80... Well.. for guys who don't know him n tried degrading him, he had achieved a lot in his life n lived a blissful life which most of u have never heard of.. :)

  • It is indeed a treasure to be cherished.

  • What a combo! Three leading artistes!

  • wohohohoho... who's that fella? is it some kind of chinese theater or opera?

  • You 'tard, does he look Chinese?

  • i could never tell chinese from japanese, sorry.. so this is traditional japanese music?

  • OK I don't know if you're being serious or not, so I'll assume that you are merely being lighthearted. If so, that's pretty funny. (But on the off-chance that you're actually serious, this is INDIAN classical music.)

  • ;-)
