I think his mouth is open more out of habit than anything, her hands look ok. But as someone else says, wow is this different from quarter/stock horse reining. This run looks extremely imprecise overall, the horse is just all over the place most of the time. I used to have Arabians growing up, and I read about all the controversies surrounding them now - it really does seem like the breed has declined considerably. This horse is quite good basically, but for nationals - this is the best?
No offense to Quarter horse people, but Arabian horse reining is so much more interesting. Quarter horses put their heads down and slowly go round the ring, but Arabs lift their heads and tails and give it their all! Now don't get me wrong, they are both magnificent breeds!
What a freaking cute little horse!! I love those flying lead changes you have going on, very fancy! He seems to be doing the :U face a lot though, is that because you're pulling on his face or does he just like opening his mouth? Great ride though!
@quezeh Some horses do just open their mouths, but it can have a lot to do with the riders hands. My paint gelding opens his mouth and I use very little to no pressure on the reins . The Arabian mare that I train needs extra pressure on her mouth, so sometimes she opens it because of the pressure . Depends on both horse and rider .
And who says that Arabians can't be good for anything than being high-spirited? Well, admittingly, I used to be one of them, but this video proves me wrong! You go, girl!
The ride was quite good, and I loved the creativity. The song fit it so well. But I cringed at that gaping mouth, and some of the sliding stops were a bit...bouncy. Altogether it was a good ride though, I love this video.
Love the idea for free style, I have never seen an Arab ran through a reigning event before. The stops weren't as dramatic as you usually see, and the spins weren't quiet as collected, but for the breed nice run. As for soft hands, I've owned mostly Arabs, they tend to just hold their mouths like that. If you look he's jacking his jaw open even when she's not connecting with her hands. Nice job thou!
Now, everyone on her knows as well as i do, that arabians where not bred to rein. Thats what quarter horses are for. But i will give her credit that her arabian can do it just as well as a quarter horse can, considering this isnt what her horse was bred for :)
the horse looks like he just loves the song it reminds me of my horse back camp counsluer her dream is to have a broadway themed barn with all the horses named namerd after songs lol
i suggest doing more with circling and speed controls & using only slight pressure from the reins by making him back up off of her legs
to get him to stop without needing to pull on his head so much start at a walk, tell him whoa!, if he doesnt stop back him up until you feel him pushing with his rear-end then do a rollback and go again . if he stops let him stand. when he backs up on his own when you say whoa do the same thing at a trot. and keep goin from there
@janevolturi100 Generally. At the time this was filmed, the rider in this video owned the horse she is riding. But its not unheard of for people to ride horses that are owned by their instructors, stuff like that.
@janevolturi100 All of these horses are owned, sometimes they're shown here to sell to other private buyers. Youth Nationals is very competative; if a horse does well here, it increases his market value considerably.
As for slaughter houses: They have been, unfortunately, all but annihilated in America.
Beautiful, but yeah, soft hands please. What a gorgeous horse. Makes me pine for the days when we showed Arabs. Best horses ever--such willing dispositions and amazing athleticism. We had an ex Scottsdale Multi champ named Vortex, still missed decades after his death.
Ive seen this video everywhere on the internet (Bad-Riding and fugly horse) It depends who sees it and their own experience with reining. I think that the horse is no doubt well trained but the horse is too wound up and the pattern is sloppy, Lead changes are way off center and the spins after the beginnning looks like a helicopter about to take off, the horse kicks his hip out every turn. The horse looks on the bit and nothing is very subtle. Cute Idea.
im not trying to be rude at all but it seems like your really pulling on his mouth it looks like it is hurting your horse. and i know what i am talking about because i have a horse of my own. im not trying to be rude
I agree. Every equestrian sport is about not using the reins, its about subtle commands through the seat, legs, etc. That's why Stacy Westfall can do this bridleless, and David O'Connor does clinics where he jumps 4' courses bridleless.
Have you ever watched Arabians in performance classes? They go around with their necks arched like that all the time so if that's your beef, forget it. If you're talking about when she does the sliding stop, really forget it. She's barely got any pressure on the reins, it's all in her heels. Perhaps it was the horse that pulled?
just a suggestion..... try to get your lead changes a little smoother without the jump. um i know arabians can get excited but the performance would look more polished if the ride was a bit quieter and the horse's head consistently lower.
But you guys look like you're having a lot of fun
i love how the horse has a 95 painted on his hindquarters... that's adorable! i want to start show riding, but i don't have a horse. and all of my friends with horses use them to do shows... so i am horse-less... for now. i want one so friggen bad! this dancing horse... this show.. its amazing! i wish it was a better quality tho, but its amazing. :) i am so jealous of this girl. Arabs are my favorite, and i wish i had one. she's living my life.
looks like loads of fun ! beautifull arabian ! he would be magnificent is the dressage ring ! be a beautiful jumper 2 .. hahaha but he looks good as a reainer !
cute horse and theme! No offense but I don't rele think Arabians make great reiners. Quarter Horses, Paints, Apps, maybe but it was still a great pattern and I agree with the stops.
Amazing! Really awesome, how well this Arab is trained. Only thing: Alex should work on her sliding stops with as little rein signal as possible. The horse shouldn´t have to open it´s mouth.
that was seriously AMAZING. I LOVED it, it got my blood pumping and gave ME an adrenalin rush because I'm trying to hit the AHYNs this year with my arab to do freestyle....this was just great. Awesome job!
but most just need the right rider, and this girl, Alex looks like she is a generally a good ride unlike the riders in the high circuts that get bought the perfect horse and really don't know how to ride a real horse ( a horse that is not perfectly trained). i really enjoy this video and i cannot wait til the arabian horse comes the scottsdale
