  • Awesome, thanks for uploading.

  • when I press record the thing jsut goes. so I can't record a on one without having my finger on the record button and the 1st key I want. why does no one else seem to have this issue! argh.

I want my reason to work the way it does for you. : ( where it doesn't start recording untill you play a key.

  • i got this new program that rivals reason and it's only $29.95 !! it's called dubturbo,it is a new beat making software... check out more information on it here youtube . com /watch?v=XizSpaPobNo

  • I have a laptop! How can i use my keyboard in Reason?! Thanks!

  • I have my keyboard connected, i created a subtractor and chose a patch and when i play the keyboard it shows up on reason that i am playing, and that it is making sound, but i hear nothing. when i play the drums though, it plays just fine. any ideas why this is happening?

  • a friend of mine using a mac has a program where the keyboard is build into the program. he plays a keyboard on screen with his computer typing keyboard. does reason do this?

  • @robertsaenz If you have propellerhead record you can do that. ALso if you Re wire to another program that has that feature, such as FL. You can also buy a standalone program that does this for 40$

  • @robertsaenz Theres a link to that program on the propellerhead website i believe.

  • i can't get passed the advance midi part. in my preference>advance midi>all my bus's say, no midi input. i've been using cool edit pro 2.0. my keyboard is plugged into the computer where the mic goes and i've been recording music this way for years . . . but, my options have been limited which is why, at the suggetion of a friend, i now have reason. help?

  • Are you running on Mac or Windows

If your using Mac then it should be a plug and play device, you just have to name it in the reason preferences section.

  • exactly why i use mac for my music and windows for my gaming.... lol windows stinks for audio... and dont say cubase.. coz its on mac too :)

even the virtual midi device i used to use works with mac reason 4.0.. lolz

  • i have a casio ketboard ive done what uve done but its not working what should i do ?

  • now that i've connected my keyboard with reason... How can i use the sound from my keyboard to play it with reason?? i wanna import the sound from my keyboard and play it with reason's piano roll

  • where is midi yoke

  • do you need a real keyboard with white and black keys. or can i use my computer keyboard????

  • Yes you can with extra free software, but honestly a real keyboard is 10000 times better honestly. Just get a cheap midi controller or a casio you don't did a motif or anything.

  • to be honest i cant afford one nut is the computer keyboard good enough for begginers?

  • i used to use my comp keyboard... works great but its just not the same as a real keyboard... when u can buy one i recommend doing so it makes life even easier

  • how do u use ur computer keyboard bcuz i dnt have a keyboard??

  • well if you're on mac then there is a great programme called MIDI Keys(its also free) and you just route it like a real keyboard and setup MIDI keys to be system wide and away you go.. dont know about windows but im sure if you google Virtual MIDI Keyboard there will be a free one about if not then it will probly be $10 or so not as expensive as a real keyboard not as good either but definitely better than nothing

i hope this helped! happy producing :)

  • @shaunmj100 Propellerhead record, or rewire to another program with that capacity such as FL studio. Or you can buy a software that does that for 40$ I think the link is on the propellerhead website.

  • can i do all this stuff on the reason 3.0 demo?

  • Hey! thank you for posting this. Exactly what I needed to get started.

  • do you need a real keyboard with white and black keys. or can i use my computer keyboard????

  • I just cant figure out getting rid of the split second delay

  • go to your audio options and reduce your latency.

  • do you need a real keyboard with white and black keys. or can i use my computer keyboard????

  • u r a fking idiot

  • hi.. I dont have a midi keyboard and wana use my compyter keyboard in reson.. How do i do that? pls tell me

  • hey i think u cant but if u have FL studio u can rewired to fl and play on ur keyborad

  • get midi yoke and Bome's Mouse Keyboard and u can play the keys in reason from your pc keyboard

  • do u have to have any midi enabled keybored or a certain type of keybored to use on reason ????

  • Finally fuck, I was looking all over youtube. THank goodness I found this vid tut. Thanks. Dude.

  • for some reason.. i cant hear the sounds im making..

Im pressing play.. and pressing the keys.. but theirs no sound.. i can hear you talk while im listening to your video.. but i cant hear reason.. any help?

  • wow thanks! i just got reason, and been searching far and wide for a good begginer tutorial that covered quantize, and all those sequwncer functions. Good work!

  • The trick, allisa, is learning how to listen to your music. Your music will tell you what notes are missing, and what/when you should add and subtract. Your ears will learn when something is not in the right pitch, or too loud, and it will be a really amazing conversation between you and your song. I estimate my work is about 80% listening, and 10% placing notes and 10% mixing/shaping.

  • This is my biggest issue with creating music, is playing the keyboard, I mean how do you make music without knowing how to play the keyboard?

  • I've been writing music nonstop without playing the keyboard. I only use it for the occasional bits where I can't get the rhythm right and I want it to sound natural. Sometimes, I just tap a single note in the right rhythm, and then position the notes into the right pitch with a mouse. Listen to some of my tunes on the website on my front page, and keep in mind that 95% of it was done without keys. That piano song, "a moment of understanding", 100% mousework. Yeah, it takes longer, but...

  • Hi

am Having problem with my Oxygen 8 keyboard

i have try'd what u have bean showing on this video but the keyboard wont conect with reason do you know y or have eny more advice?

    plz help

    M.e

  • Make sure you've reached the point where you can connect your keyboard to the PC (using the USB module) and it no longer pops up a message "Installing new hardware". I have noticed the drivers are stubborn. Try the M-Audio website for a new/more recent driver.

  • This is a really Noob question..

If i link a Roland Fantom X6 into the PC through the Midi or Usb, can i use the sounds contained into the keyboard on Reason?

    Thanks for the answer

  • nope. You'd have to separately sample the sounds, and then use an NN19 or similar to play them back.

  • Ah ok thanks :)

Just another question: to sample the keyboards sounds..

do i have to use a software which automatically create a NN-XT patch? (that would be awesome)

or i must record every single note of every single keyboard patch?

Thanks (im totally a newbie in musical hardware)

  • I need help...

I go to preferences and there is only advanced control... No advanced midi... :( What is wrong?

I dont think it's beacause i have vista...

  • Reason 4?

  • yup... let me tell you that i dont have and midi keyboard... I just went to see how the settings works.

Is that happening because of no midi keyboard?

  • Probably. The advanced Midi page wouldn't be of use to you in your case.

Don't worry though, I've composed many pieces without the aid of a keyboard!

  • It should have a round socket on the back labelled "Midi". You can get Midi cables at must instrument stores or online. You'll have to make sure your Mac has a sound card with a midi port. The end that plugs into your mac will look different, like a printer port, almost.

  • very helpful keep it bangin

  • i got a problem, i have a crap little casio (my korg X5 is in the shop)and i have it going midi out to a M-Audio Firewire 410 audio interface, and from there into the computer, i got as far as the find tab on the control device, when i press a button nothing happens it won't find it, i have everything plugged in correctly right?

  • Is your 410 configured properly? When you plug it into the computer do you get any popups asking for drivers?

Try a "Generic midi keyboard" as your choice in the "Control surfaces and keyboards" page.

  • I notice when you browse for some sounds you have quite a collection. Do you buy them online?

I seem to remember there's some plugins such as Vintage Keys etc... but even after googling I can' find them?

    BTW: Great tut's.

  • I've been collecting scraps of sounds from CDs, Movies, and friends for some time. I had a friend in filmmaking, who gave me a CD full of foley SFX (glasses breaking, plates put on cupboard, footsteps, cars, dogs, doors, etc. And a bunch of them I just copied from FL Studio.

  • nice, dont take this video down ever. i just got a keyboard today, and who woulda thot id already know how to set it all up. this is perfect! now i just gotta find a way to load samples to the keyboard, unless you kno how to do that too? if so, lemme know!! thanks a shit load man

  • That's what the NN-XT Sampler does. Load a few different patches and look at the programmer to get an idea of how it works.

  • do u have a tutorial video of u doing so? if so, can u provide the link and the time it shows on the video clip?

and if not, can u make one?

  • Check out my tut on "Vinyl Scratch" It uses a few samples on the NN-XT but I admit I glossed over a lot of it. The idea is that the keys you see on top of the NNXT map to the sample blocks down below. If there's nothing below a key, no sound plays. If you have 3 samples below that key, all 3 samples play. There's a lot of NNXT tuts on YT. Gie it a search, bro.

  • I just got a midi keyboard and you really cleared things up for me,

    thanks

  • Very detail info thanks

  • great stuff, thanks

  • This is how it supposed to be....helping this all

  • thanks, helped me out a lot

  • Yet Again a Great Vid From the Homie AcePincter! Keep It Up My Friend
