John Lennon stated that when he was a boy he used to go down to the Pier Head and think about New York. When he lived in New York he used to go down to the Hudson River and think about Liverpool.
@jofrad do you remember at the city of culture celebrations back in 2008 there was a hedge cut to resemble the fab four.Ringo starr was asked what at the time what did he miss of Liverpool and he replied "nothing" - soon after his head was cut off the hedge!I'm not having a dig at the city at all! - the three Pierhead buildings and St.Georges hall are two of the great sights in the U.K.Besides who could not like a city which produced the superb (late)Beryl Bainbridge and Echo & the Bunnyman!
@revol148 Liverpool is still the greatest city on the planet. We always punch above our weight, nobody can beat us for Football and music - the two most important things in the world.
@revol148 New York has too many Yanks living there and London has too many cockneys. If they both rid themselves of those parasites, maybe they'd stand a chance.
@KopiteP250505 not necessarily cockney people in particular more just "London people" generally - for some reason living within the M25 gives them some sort of arrogance/pride and a bewilderment as to why anyone would NOT want to live there.
Indeed a city so much "on the edge" that the Beatles left for London and the USA the minute they made any money.

@revol148
Paul McCartney still has a house on Merseyside.
John Lennon stated that when he was a boy he used to go down to the Pier Head and think about New York. When he lived in New York he used to go down to the Hudson River and think about Liverpool.
Liverpool was in their ears and in their eyes.

@KopiteP250505 music is far more important than football! Greatest city on the planet? - difficult to answer - I'm guessing either London or NewYork.
