  • what is better?? jump with 2 feet or jump with one and then the other follows??

  • If ppl complain on not getting some parkour move rite over n over again, odds are they only tried once or twice n failed n just decided to give up! I of course first saw a video of wats a monkey vault n then just tried 2-3 times n got it, no harm done.

  • when i do it i make a big impact on the ground when i land, any tips to improve that

  • nice vid...!

  • i can do it but only if the ground on one side of the obstacle is the same as the other.

i wanna learn how to do it with height difference

  • @eatingchannel bring your knees into your chest if your scared of bailing, try it on a smaller obstacle first and work up to higher ones, hope this helped :)

  • i practice this on my bed, but i keep getting my ankles cought pleasehelp

  • ty

  • so is a kong when you dive first and then touch the obstacle?

  • i cant pass my legs thtoug my hand how to ????

  • I'm afraid the tips of my feet will get caught on the top of the obstacle I'm jumping over and land on my face... but I can do other vaults like the lazy and thief just fine :P

  • *Obstacle :p

  • very nice, but it is wrong ... hands must also be attached to the balustrade at the end of the jump you unplug once you are running

  • @THEofficialNEC - No. Wrong. How does that make any sense?

  • @ParkourBlog nothing is wrong parkour is about expressing yourself?

  • Lol...Yeah this is a monkey. If someone thinks this is a Kong, you need to see more parkour videos.

  • @reddragpnofhell - not a monkey, monkey means that my arms touch the obstacle while while my feet touch the ground.

A kong is hands touching the obstical after the feet leave the ground

YOU need to watch more parkour video's...or even go out and do it, rather than fat out on youtube

  • thats a kong btw a monkey vault you go through your arms and onto the ground with your hands still on the obstacle a kong is where you go through then let go :)

  • @sk8rjam1771 Wrong... You just described a kash...

  • omg, its so stupid to argur wether its a kong or a monkey, the difference is so small its ridicules. i prefer calling it a catpass, which comes from the french word saut du chat which means leap of the cat

  • Lol, is that Craig Tara? in Ayr?

    Good tutorial, cheers mate

  • Thats a Fuckin Kong

  • @123456789123456qwert and? ok. you think its a kong. who really cares?

  • im always terrified of have my ankles catch on whatever then slamming my face. so i do that one where yo uswing your legs over :P

  • @SkimpyDoughnut im afraid of that aswell so i do the same as you

  • i never do a monkey, i sometimes do a monkey stall, but i prefer speed vault and side :D

  • Wow, is this in Kempervenne (NL)?

  • im overweight will it be possible for me to do this iv been trying allot but just cant get it. how long did it take you to learn?

  • A king kong vault is when u dive at the obstacl and a monkey is what he is doin

  • @vekin65 due that guys right a kong is where you dive at it.

source: all the dam vids on youtube. p.s if the nation dosn't agree with you, its obviusly not true

  • Can someone please tell me what the advantage is from a 'Monkey Vault' over just jumping it sideways (with the use of one or two arms)?

  • I mean this may just be to me, and im a noob at parkour, but I find monkey vaults to be for higher obstacles than the speed (one hand) or lazy (two handed) vault.

  • by using this move you increse your chance of hitting your legs into the obstacle and fall and die

  • @Cornampoo you dont take up as much space as you would if you speeded it, imagine a fence with walls on either side.

  • Commonly called a window.. ;D

  • @Cornampoo or a window, yes

  • to confirm what :P

You didn't tell me where you thought it was...?

  • ok, i do tht often, tht was a monkey vault, a dash vault is were u extend yur legs after the vault and during the vault you push forward, were as the monkey you push both up and forward

  • Nice, thanks for the help.

  • I don't call that a monkey vault.

  • king kong went free runin rnd new york lol

  • soo wat should i do to practice

  • oh and i cant get my legs to go between my arms

  • i´m german and i hope i understood your problem right. you don´t need to pull your legs between your arms. you can also push your body up and leave your legs in the back of your hands.

sorry but i can´t explain it better ^^

when you want to learn a monkey you can also use an object which is a bit longer. so you can´t miss it. (sorry my english is terrible)

    keep on training!

  • Dein Englisch war toll, es war kein Problem zu verstehen!

  • lift your hips up ^^ and let go when your shoulders are inline with the bar, and you will auto correct yourself in the air to land, its pretty easy, but remember.... HIGH HIPS

  • u dont put ur legs threw ur arms(is a common mistake) u use ur arms to propell u forwards to clear the obstacle

  • thats a dash vault dude

  • thts a kong vault, monkey vault is wat he did but standin but he was runnin then doin it so its a kong.

Source: doing parkour for over a year

  • @vekin65

a kong vault is where you dive at it. this is a monkey vault.

Source: American Parkour, Urban Freeflow, Urban Current, ParkourBlog, and just a bout everything else

  • Wrong.... its monkey

  • im pretty sure its a monkey vault.... kongs r wen u get hip over head or something like that

  • im sorry but ur year hasnt helped u at all. this is a monkey vault. a king kong is were u leap at the obstacle.

  • same here :S

  • i cant get my legs up high enof on the monkey vault

  • r u a stupid cunt or somethin orjust a reatard that was a kong not a monkey durrrrrrrr :-(

  • you should possibly direct that question at yourself....

Monkey - hands hit obstacle before legs leave the ground (if you wish pause the video, you will see that is what happens)

Kong (which is a big monkey) - hands hit the obstacle once the legs leave the ground

Now go and learn your parkour movements proper like :/

  • Lol! Nice one! :D

I hate wen stupid retards act like they know all about stuff whether it's Parkour/Freerunning or sumthing completely unrelated and they don't know shit to be honest! Lol!

  • monkey is supposed to hit just as you jump, but before is a good way to start.

  • @WhiteBulletboy hey dude you got it wrong this is the monkey vault dont believe me check this out at 3runtube right here in youtube

  • i reckon the first vault you should learn is the lazy vault, I did one on the second day i started parkour

  • Nah the first vault you shud learn is a simple vault, as in a normal vault and master that on high obstacles etc. first, lol!

    :D

  • Just a reference to all besides the vault the parkour roll is the most fundemental move and should be learned as soon as possible.

  • i cant do this above my stomach area, how do you vault over objects that chest height or higher

  • you just do. it all in the pop u know? All you gota do is do is go up and use ur shoulders to get ue self over.

  • Usually for objects chest height and higher, I do a pop-vault. May not be the most efficient way to get over the obstacle, but at my level, I think it's the only method I can use without hurting myself significantly.

  • Jump higher and use your arms to push yourself up.

It's just a harder version of the same thing :p

  • Rofl... when i first started doing monkeys i wailed my shins off of a bar and faceplanted.... But im better now, still not perfect, but getting there. This helped.

  • monkey is really un useful. The only thing you should use it for is when you have low speed or if it's a high wall. Kong is better

  • you just listed a use of it....

    Therefore it is useful.

  • @ParkourBlog ahaha win :P

  • @LittleYodaLollipop

I happen to use monkey vaults a lot, as my usual training environment has plenty of medium-high walls that you would have to be superhuman to truly kong.

  • can you do it w/o the little "skip" before you vault?

  • not rele. The skip is needed. You can try...but you wont do it as fludidly or as well.

The little skip is a form of 'blocking', it helps you go faster, higher and so on.

  • The "skip" is actually called the two-foot punch. The utility of the skip is to build upward velocity, since your moderate momentum (which should be the case if you're choosing to monkey-vault your obstacle) won't be enough to carry you over if you jump normally.

The only time when you may discard the "skip" is when you're doing a kong-vault, where your high velocity forward may be translated into a horizontal dive, which is typically enough to carry you over your obstacle of choice.

  • its kong!!!

when u do monkey your legs go through the gap! not half way...

  • you need to learn your parkour mate...

Monkey - hands hit while feet are on the ground

Kong - big monkey...feet leave the ground before the hands hiy

Kash - Legs go through the gap after a hop

  • that depends on what you consider monkey

  • Actually, the difference between monkey and kong lies in the time in which the hands touch the bar.

Of course, there is a bit of kong in this video, but I don't think there should be a standardization of style. Parkour is about getting where you want in the most efficient way possible. Just use whatever works for you.

  • I cannot ge tit right, i can barely tuck knees to get over something, yet i can completely clear it, im so confused & scared :(

  • Most ppl say that the monkey vault is the easiest vault etc etc, but i think its pretty hard.

i cant get it right. but i think its mostly the fear yeah?

  • yeah i think its the fear and yeah i can do monkey vault but you can train somewhere inside of your house and think you shall begin or all shall begin inside find a soft place where you dont get ouch lol yeah and yeah did train inside first and oneday i did it outside and yeah i think monkey vault was easy to learn kash is more difficult to learn what think or dash vault and yeah

  • this vault is really actually not hard, it is mainly fear, it only took me 20 min to get right, and now im practising over higher stuff

  • laugh at me all u want i know i laughed at myself but i forget to let go and i ate FUKIN SHIT i split open my eyebrow and banged up my knee but TY for the vid

  • lol, dw bouts it. I did the same sorta thing once, but i realised what i was doing and let go. Just lay in a heap for like 10 mins :P thought i'd broken things

  • Omg when i get ready to throw my legs over i almost fall on my face when i lean in

  • i did this with a brick wall and floored myself by wacking my shins but dont let that put any one off xD

  • One thing do more splitfoot takeoff

  • When i try doing monkeys my legs always lean to the left(when in mid air), they still go through my arms though. It is as if they go through my arms diagonally. What am i doing wrong? pls help :(

  • Honestly theres only 1 thing you can do...

Sit there and do it. Think about what your doing wrong and work on it. Just spend alot of time monkeying and getting it right. Visualise the right way to do it and then work it out

  • realy, theres no right or wrong way of doing it. if your legs lean a bit but you still get the motion, then your doing it right. only new comers or people who dont do parkour for the love of it will tell you your doing it wrong. parkour is about getting through an obsticle in the quickest and most efficiant manner. it doesnt matter how it looks realy. aslong as its smooth and quick. ask any real tracuer, they'll say the same thing. the fakes make it seem like skateboarding, its all tricks 2 them

  • that vid helped heaps..

    thanks man

  • There is more than this to it though, like you have to make sure to raise you butt when you jump at the beginning.

Believe me, I got it right pretty fast, but then I sort of stopped practicing it for a week or so and then I kind of stopped being able to do it, until just yesterday I realized that I wasn't raising my butt high enough.

I tried raising it higher, and what do you know, I got it easier than ever

  • Easy? Try that with two big round things on your chest and longer legs.*headdesks and wishes she was male* Dx

  • lol, still possible :P

I know pleanty of girls who can do it :)

  • Now you're just making me feel pathetic. xDD

Ah, well. I'll get it down eventually. I REFUSE to be bested by the athletic 10-year olds next door. Nope. Not happening.

... Good tut, by the way. I'll be practising.

  • I just can't do it...I'm always blocking right b4 the obstacle...any advice?

  • Just go for it. Its all in your mind, test it all out and then just do it

  • hi i can do it just that im scared my legs will flip!

  • it is annoying me please help-when i monkey over the rail my feet go outwards and it looks stupid-how do i do it properly because this is irratating me because i cant do them properly

  • valew ajudo pra k7

  • hey when i try my legs go to the right so like my right arm goes inbetween my legs and..yeah....how can i stop doing this??

  • u didnt monkey properly u didnt keep ur feet together wen u landed ur saposed other wise it aint proper monkey

  • umm...why? That ruins the flow...you can land split or regular...split just keeps the momentium going and is how you should land to keep moving

  • lol you got told. why would you wanna land with your two feet together? all that does is make you lose ALL your momentum ie the exact opposite of what parkour is about.

  • I know this maybe like a complete newb question but whats the difference between a monkey and a kong?

  • On a monkey your hands hit and then you jump, on a kong you jump before your hands hit.

  • Lol the monkey is more like an everyday vault, like when you go over a railing most people put their hand/s down first then jump over it lol.

  • well..sorta. The monkey is for its situations the kong has its...things that wont take the weight or are to precise for a kong get monkey'd, things to long to monkey get kong'd and so on

  • Lol well thanks for clearing up the very first thing anyway atleast i know that iv been doing 2 seperate vaults lol and not the same one differently :P

  • "On a monkey your hands hit and then you jump, on a kong you jump before your hands hit." imo that's wrong thinking, cause if you'll keep holding an obstacle while passing it you'll perform sth like kash (hands have contact with an obstacle till your body pass over it). IMO the difference between monkey and kong is sort of obstacle (monkey - short ones, kong - long ones). However, kong is just a name, "fantastic" invention of guys from urbanfreeflow.

  • wtf every time i try it i catch my feet on the rail (it hurts) any advice

  • read the earlyer comments, quite alot of people have this problem, my guess would be you don't pop your shoulders enough...but without seeing you do it i cant tell you

  • shuld you throw your self with your arms or let go once youv past the object thats where i mess up and i grinded my ankle

  • mix of both, obv if you let go over the object with no movement you will just fall onto it but rather than 'throwing', pop your shoulders and then when you let go you will get across. Try and let go (and pop) when your ass is above the object, this way you have almost all passed the object, then swing your legs under you (avoid clipping them)

  • ahh i see thanks yah no more grinded ankles

  • thnks mate helps me alot

  • this tutorial is SOOOOO good!

  • thnx this is the best tutorial for monkeys eva it really helped (:

  • i cant clear the rail..ive got 2 big bruises! do u jump b4 actually grabbing the obstacle??

  • no, you don't. A monkey is where you grab the object and jump, a kong is where you jump and then contact the object

  • no thats a kong.

  • thx i can now do 4 types of vault normal, monkey 360 spin, summersault vault and another but i dunno the name lol i am making a video on them shortly but 1st i need to fix ma phones lol i dropped it in a river agen lol?!

  • i learn how to do that in school

  • I scare to do monkey on rail. But i do king kong and dash but i fear to do monkey .:S

  • haha that's kind of odd

  • thanks =D

  • everytime a do a monkey vault my feet get hooked and i face plant so what do i do?

  • i can;t tell you Exactly wots wrong coz i can;t see your jump, but the common problems are that you don;t 'jump' your shoulders or you stay 2 rigid so you just make it over, try pushing forwards as you go

  • hop up, pull the object towards you, and make your body parallel w/ the ground over the object for a split second and control your feet to go over the object. it's tough to say in words

  • i don't get it i can't do it on high objects cause my feet doesn't come over and i can't do it on small objects what should i do???

  • i can't tell you without seeing your vault...just keep trying and eventually you'll get it.

  • thanks again for a awesome tutorial! :D

  • thx its very helps me

  • i can do that but um is there a thing where you do a frontflip over the bar?

  • yer, its called a gate vault or a handspring

i'm trying to get a tut out on that

  • can it be done on a hand rail that is a little ove waist high and has another bar in the middle? if you know what im talking about? its hard to explain

  • lolz, big typo. Dunlop Volleys.

  • What sort of shoes would you recommend? I was thinking something comfy like Dunlop Collays, but they'd get ripped up wouldn't they xD

  • anything is good, parkour don't really rip shoes, it wears them out quick...anything is good really, as long as its sports

  • not a bad try i must give u that but theres 2 thing that i dislike 1st its called -kong- not monkey voult, 2nd u should try and strech ur self to do the kong and the ferther you take off the more you can perfect ur kong u should try and do it on a picnick table or something a little bit more lengthy and ull perfect ur kongs and see how much differnt they'll look.

  • theres also a vault called 'the monkey'. It a lesser version of the kong. You should check my kong tutorial...

A kong is where you jump then put hands down, the monkey is where you put your hands down and then jump...

  • lol parkour not karpour xD kar( car xD ) pour :D fun name

  • Alright, I just started Karpour a week ago and I am still learning the basics. Me and my friend have been doing lazy vaults on things and i just tried the monkey. It is pretty scary because your thinking of hitting your shins on stuff. But i tried first on something of moderate height and soft (in my case a footrest) so once i got that i did it on this table and it took some tries with cushoing at the other end but i got it now. So just take it easy at first then you can get it down!

  • Nice, pitty i cant try the vault, tryed to do a long jump roll and landed on my head and twisted my arm:P

  • how do I get past the fear of catching my foot and falling face first on the other side? lol. It's already happened once and I don't really want to have it happen again.

  • when ever i do this my one leg goes sideways and i hit my arm how can i stop that?

  • hey when im over, my hands are still on the "objekt" or bench or whatever,

so they dont release. Is that ok?

  • not rele, push off your shoulders as your body passes over the plane of the object

  • ok. i ill try^^

  • hey has anyone got any tips. i can do it but i feel i'm tucking my knees to much into my chest. or are you supposed to do that. thanks to the people who reply

  • really whatever feels right to you. I suppose you could be tucking your knees into ur chest to much...but better than not tucking enough i suppose...

  • Hey, i do the same thing. I suppose the most important part is that you land and can walk away. I've seen nasty results from monkey vaults but there good and how ever you do them is ok as long as it feels right.

  • i think i see how to do this now, thanks for uploading the vid i've been trying to figure out how to do this for weeks an i think i know how to now.

  • Its not that hard i did it in about 5mins

  • yer, its not that hard, go and try it, once you get over the leg thing its fine

  • Intresting i wondered sometimes how to do it, cause i've tried before once fell. So do i push up with my hands so my legs can pass throu, sorry if you dont understand me :P

  • how long has it takes for you before you do the monkey vault? great tutorial ;)

  • I never learnt these, i just could do them. I was a gymnast coz of that i've just done these second nature

  • m8 ur vids are gr8 could u tell me wat u need to learn to do the whole thing like gymnastics or what if u could tell me uld help just dont tell me u need to do balay

  • I think ballet might help or just stretching but I don't parkour but want to start but before i do I'm building up my stamina and strength first

  • That doesn't make sense. Surely parkour builds stamina and strength? :)

  • I mean for the more intense ones for when you your hanging like 100 ft in the air from a building you don't wanna have arms like sticks. But I guess you can obviously start small and build up muscle and stamina then but It's just preference on wether you want to start with physical training because even if you first start it has to be pretty hard so you with have your fair share of falls and all I presume.

  • hard

  • easyest in parkour, perhaps 2 hand vault bit easyer (for me)

  • u said on your page that u aint got any friends that do parkour ask your best friend

P.S. i like most of the music u like

  • nice that helped me alot :)

  • u rock dude thx for all the videos, im gettign there

  • Once again keep up the good videos.

  • Very nice video all your video´s helped me alot :)

  • very nice videeo gald i subscriebd your tutorials are helpful!
