Pretty cool how they got the REAL Officer Obie to play himself...said he'd rather make himself look like a fool on-screen than have someone else do it.
I think this movie is a classic, a quintessential slice of life as experienced by millions of babyboomers in the 1960s and early 1970s. It manages to be irreverant and serious, funny and dramatic, light-hearted and tragic all at once like the time from which it sprang or more like exploded onto the scene. I am hoping that if I write enough here, that I can drive the horrible comment below out of easy reading distant. Hey, I believe in free speech, but the vulgar comments are very rude.
@originalgrump100 He says I can get anything I want at this particular restaurant. If I go there, I would hope to encounter some tasty dank stank hairy late 1960's hippy pussy along with some stinky dank hairy button poop pipe real close to it. I would hope the hairs connect one slice and pipe into the other like hippies do
First time I heard this was just two hours after my bud and I got cited for hitchhiking en route to the zoo. I've considered Arlo a kindred spirit ever since.
That's totally not what I picture Arlo Guthrie looking like when I hear the song. Some reason I always pictured him looking similar to David Crosby lol.
@ladykatey I was a little girl when I first saw the film one Thanksgiving many a year ago. They show it in my hometown every year at that time. I thought Arlo was a cutie too back in his day! :) I remember watching the film "Woodstock" during a film revival and I had no idea Arlo had been at that legendary concert. :)
They don't make movie trailers like they used to, do they? Thanks for posting this, now I want to go see the film. Always loved western Mass (especially in fall), where this takes place.
I would have been one of them...only safely hidden away in Canada.

00:54 WHAT SONG IS THAT?!?!?!
I've been told it was Fixin To Die Rag, by Country Joe and the Fish, but I'm not so sure about that.
Someone please help, I want that song so badly... at least the one on the movie that he plays.

Love it! Listening to this song on WZLX was a tradition with me and my dad for many years...
Arlo was pretty cute in his day, as well!

Now it all started two Thanksgivings ago, was on - two years ago on
Thanksgiving, when my friend and I went up to visit Alice at the
restaurant, but Alice doesn't live in the restaurant, she lives in the
church nearby the restaurant, in the bell-tower, with her husband Ray and
Fasha the dog.
