  • best song ever...

  • I like this video. girl at gym wears shadow play shirt, awesome.

  • Que hijueputa este tema

  • powerful

  • "me, seeing me... hoping for something else"

    what a line!

  • @314159caomhin The song might be Atrocity Exhibition

  • Michael Mann has been fascinated by and incorporating this rift of notes into nearly every film before HEAT.

It was slowed for the final scene of Thief when James Caan is shooting Dennis Farina.

It was the same arrangement of notes in Manhunter in Petersen's love scene before departing with Jack Crawford.

He used it sparingly in Crime Story but can't recall if he used it in Miami Vice.

Clearly... I watch too many Michael Mann films.

  • @SeymourButtz99 I'm thankful that you do! It never ceases to amaze me how artists influence each other.

  • @SeymourButtz99 No you don't, he's the best postmodern director of our time.

  • @314159caomhin Look like you are talking about dead souls for the drums, or she's lost control

  • sears the soul.....this song stirs every emotion inside my body.......AMAZING.....

  • Amazing song (:

  • this was the creepy alternative suond i was looking for this could be played in dungeons, caves, crypts, catacombs, tombs, awesome

  • Every time listening to this song makes me feel so much more +++

  • Some bands are just not who they are without the original members. JD without Ian IS New Order. Nirvana WAS Kurt Cobain. The Who without Keith Moon and Led Zepplin without John Bonham really aren't the same bands. JMO.

  • in the 10 best bands ever

  • still.

  • Joy Division is the band....Ian Curtis is the man ....Bernard is the guitarist, Peter is the bass guitarist and Stephen is the drummer....these are the collective powers that are that of Joy Division...there is nothing as powerful as 4 individuals coming together and collectively creating art / provoking thought ....as the magic that happens in a band...this phenomenon happens nowhere else but in music Kudos to all of them and Ian wherever he may be....

  • this song is fucking amazing..inspires me so much,,i love this band

  • what a cheerful..song.!!!..Joy Division...their music...speaks..to my..very life..and that what..real...rock.and roll..is supposed..to do..!!!!rock and roll...should be...both...dark...and..fun...and that is what...Joy Division,,,is...!!!!

  • so strong......the best joy divisions song....i cant explain how i am feeling , while i am listening to this pure masterpiece....its something strong..really...so strong

  • Has there ever been a performance as emotionally raw, as grab your throat and tear your heart out desperate, as this? Never fails to hit deep.

  • the vibe of my soul, the music of this song is...)))

  • Oh, I've walked

  • I know it's not hard, but I love playing the bass line for this...

  • It is positively sublime. I don't let myself listen to it often, but when I do I put my headphones on, turn up the sound, close my eyes and just listen with not a single other thought in my head.

  • One of the best from J.D.

  • great vid

  • greatest guitar, sound and band ever

  • different colours, different shades over each mistakes were made. I took the blame. I think the guitar sound on here is awesome. A very powerful and dark song. I can remember hearing it for the first time when Unknown Pleasures came out.

  • BEST SONG EVER

  • superb

  • It's just plain perfect isn't it?

Taken me over 30 years to realise this(I know)so what.

  • It's just plain perfect isn't it?

Taken me over 30 years to realise this(I know)but so what.

  • great song, great band!!!!

  • it is a shame Love will tear us apart is the tune everyone thinks of when they think of Joy Division because this one, disorder, shadowplay and transmission are all twice what that is and more a relection of the band I feel.

  • @Boric78 true, until you go through what love will tear us apart is about. now that song speaks to me more than any other

  • @Oesktchohova

I think Shadow Play is the JD song that does it for me, with New Dawn Fades a close second.

  • I can't really say which version I like more, Moby's version ist heavier und gets your blood pumping, this version sounds more reflective and chilling, maybe a bit sad and Ian Curtis doesn't shout out his pain like Moby does - I guess it depends on my mood which version I like more.

    atm, it's this one

  • I want this song to be played at my funeral. The lyrics are the story of my life.

  • @narc1011 same here

  • just fucking awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @berryje1964 fuckn oath

  • Heartbreakingly beautiful.

  • Quite possibly the heaviest Joy Division song. On of my favorites.

  • has been said before, but can't be said enough, thank you Ian Curtis

  • beautiful video - wonderful song all time favourite band.

  • Y ouTube/WISPRWORLD

    Y ouTube/WISPRWORLD

    Y ouTube/WISPRWORLD

  • nice colors

  • lovely! the pioneers of postpunk and influencing so many other bands afterwards! love 'em so much!

  • Thank you again, all these twisted but spiritual men as Ian, Syd, Kurt and Jim, they did it so well, they seem just like lost brothers to me.

  • awesome vid - loved that

  • 17 arseholes hated this song... x(

  • @rydermethod your an idiot.

  • @lawrence096 hey lawrence did you used to go out with Eda???? its a long shot but i reckon its you

  • @ferret630 nope lol ;)

  • @lawrence096

    LOL, ironic.

  • @thestranger4812 how so?

  • @lawrence096

    It's "you're", not "your".

  • @thestranger4812 sorry didn't realise the grammar police are in town

  • @rydermethod Moby's version is good, but this is still better than any cover, even if New Order made a cover for it...

  • Only I.C knows the meaning behind those words

  • @wisprworld well, that depends, people who study his biography, people that knew him closely might also know the meaning...

i know a bit about him, but not that much, and still, the lyrics seem so familiar, and the music of this song resonates with my soul...

  • Favorite song EVER. Must play this at my funeral.

  • @thexcrowx or at ur birthday party

  • @Jurane isn't it overreach, mistakes were made.?

  • @ThePonkazz "Over each" is regarding the "different colors" and "different shades"

"Each" implys two. The two presented were the colors and shades. Overreach doesn't make sense in this context.

  • Nice blending of the original track with the eventual footage.

    Well done.

    Thank you immensely.

  • done a great job with this video great colurs and feel to a all time classic in my top 20 tracks ever

  • Q buena!!!!!!!!!

  • I've just got a new girlfriend called Dawn and the tan from her holiday in Spain is fading, so I can relate to this song.

  • @gigsing do you get up at the crack of dawn lol

  • @ChayMilne1

Your crack is amusing, ChayMilne1 !

  • Different colours, different shades,

    Over each mistakes were made.

    I took the blame.

  • Joy Division + Heat movie footage rocks :) thanks! Didn't Moby do the music for this part of the movie shrug...i could be confused.

  • it was meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEE, waiting for me, hoping for something more

  • one of me favourites by Joy Division, clearly the cure for me depressed soul... x)

  • Seminal and completely unique.True masters of their own genre.

  • i fallen love at this when i was sixteen and i stioll love it nowdays i am 34

    joy division forever

  • A loaded gun Will set you free...

  • ...

  • a loaded gun won't set you free

    ..so you say.

  • [*]

  • 30 years today! RIP Ian...

  • Hey, guys, I just uploaded Ian Curtis Tribute Video on my channel. It`s just final part of the movie called Control. I thought it was a very touching scene So, I hope you`re gonna like it. ...

    In Loving Memory of Ian Curtis(15 July 1956 - 18 May 1980).

    Peace.

    TheGigsixstringAge.

  • The bass, the vox, the lyrics.

    This is amazing.

  • Wow wow wow you just acn't beat the bass and the vocals

  • how do you download videos from youtube to save on your ipod?

  • RIP Ian. :((((((((((((((((((((((((((((

  • john frusciante did a pretty respectable cover of this song in amsterdam. it's on youtube.

  • @OinopsPontos but, the moby cover is better

  • @lanoviadepetedoherty

I like Moby. But you are scum.

  • @ady10001 fuck off! the moby cover is better than the john cover

  • I consider this song to be Joy Divisions masterpiece.

  • @yardsman my very famous too...luv it

  • ian curtis is god.

  • completely awesome!

  • one of my favorites songs of the band

  • one of there best tracks .

  • their

  • great video for a awesome song and band!!

  • amazing to think how ian curtis died so young and j.d. didn't even reach their peak yet they were so phenomenal. they were way ahead of their time.

btw i only recently discovered them and think their music is timeless.

  • How do you know that's why he killed himself?

  • He doesn't. Just another clueless idiot more concerned about having a voice than what the voice is actually saying.

  • timeless music...

  • i love thissss

  • zum einpennen!

  • Giants.

  • video is obviously from 'Heat'.

  • great video... a bit of blade runner influence???

  • @redwest blade runner came along a couple of years AFTER this, maybe the influence the other way round?

  • I thought that this video was made recently. I know this song was from 1979, but I have noticed that someone took extracts from varoius TV appearances.. Great song and video whenever it was made.

  • @redwest sorry bro ! i thought you meant the song was influenced by bladerunner

(music score or overall 'tone' )i blame too

much partying.! for me it smacks of 60s

early70s psychedelic art form style, but as the heli moves around and you get hit with the big neon city scape it does put me in mind of a certain movie about replicants!

  • He is talking about the video silly, not the music.

  • 2chukmaty, as you can see by the posts

i worked that derr.. out last week. any way have a good one!

  • I didn't see. Silly on me ;)

  • @mauriewm

blade runner is a novel from phillip k dick and was written in 68

  • @oimeloimel actually it was called 'do androids count electric sheep'

  • @oimeloimel

"...dream of electric sheep" , to be preciscly ;)

  • crap film clip

    fucking brilliant song!!!

  • a change of speed, a change of style,

a change of scene, with no regrets

a chance to watch, admire the distance,

    still occupied, though you forget,

    different colors, different shades,

    over each mistakes were made,

    i took the blame,

    directionless so plain to see,

a loaded gun won't set you free,

    so you say,

  • we'll share a drink and step outside,

an angry voice and one who cried,

we'll give you everything and more,

the strains too much can't take much more,

oh, i've walked on water, and ran through fire,

can't seem to feel it anymore,

it was me, waiting for me,

    hoping for something more,

me, seeing me this time, hoping for something more

  • amazing song...in fact I cant even call this a "song" and feel okay about it...this is much more than a song, it's....it's......it's......it's not easy to put into words just how deeply this music goes into the soul...so tragic but at the same time the greatest art comes from the most tortured of souls..

  • Simply fuckin great...

  • what say ... unbelievable

  • Joy Division - Talented, classy, brilliant. And Ian Curtis with his incredible, instinctive sense of style fits perfectly here

  • Tune

  • A loaded gun won't set you free.

    So you say...

  • I've walked on water run through fire can't seem to feel it anymore

  • one of the greatest bands ever.....

  • @MaTchBoOkPoEt .. and dont forget one of the greatest producers in Martin Hannett who made this unique dark JD studio sound to reflect Curtis's unique songwriting .

  • @svecter Martin Hannett deserves to be remembered. You have a good ear for music, friend.

  • @PiotrpLUM well said martin hannett was a genius of sounds and atmospheric beats he could just put it alltogether

  • @MaTchBoOkPoEt NUFF SAID

  • very good job on the video

  • Comment removed

  • that doesn't sound right.

  • that was a reply to usman0611's comment btw..which he has since deleted.

  • (But it is the Moby version of the song that is used in Heat)

  • MMMBloat

No, it's a scene from Heat. Pacino in a helicopter just before the famous coffee scene with De Niro.

Watched it last night. Great film.

  • Heat remnds me on The dark Knight(Urban grimmnes, evil opponents and more..)

  • Nice and trippy, thats what we like

  • I've walked on water run through fire can't seem to feel it anymore

  • joy division awesome

  • a good song to play loud :)

  • Awesome song and this video is great

  • great song!!! i really loves the guitar sound...can anyone recommend another song with the same style?

  • Yes, the rest of Unknown Pleasures!!!!

  • its mainly just a shitload of wammy and a shitload of bass. . . .

  • great band gotta admit it right=}

  • Is that the beginning of The Running Man (the helicoptors)? Awesome song for sure. Their best song by far.

  • movie Heat, on the soundtrack

  • brilliant

  • A change of speed, a change of style.

A change of scene, with no regrets,

    So you say

  • @tilallaby DidO!

  • Two years ago I saw the film Control about this band which really impressed me, yes it did strike a chord !!! I'ìve loved this band so much in the past... i sill love them though

  • This is a really good tribute video MrBlue. My compliments.

  • This song fuckin rocks. This is exactly what music should be.

  • i love joy division.. but actually when i listen to them

    i sink into psychedelia...

  • An creative inspiration for over three decades..

  • Fans of JD will kill me for saying this, but I really enjoy the version by Moby from Heat, the riff sounds amazingly fat and mean in that one.

  • I have no objection to that. I love Joy Division, but Moby is a genious.

  • yeah i hate you!!!
