Ellen is so amazing and calm with these animals and I shouldn't compare but she is way better than David Letterman b/c she lets him talk and doesn't interrupt.
@camelsandfriends Well. Those people probably didn't know as much about a bushbaby as Jack Hanna, lol. He probably has it on a preserve somewhere. Having it on TV only increases awareness about these animals; it makes people more interested. Increasing awareness is always very important & crucial in the animal world.
@addie899 I'm not sure it would be so easy to handle if it was on a preserve. I mean that in the sense that you normally think of it- with a lot of open spaces and not much or any interaction with humans. I'm not against private ownership of exotics, I just don't like when the term "rescue" is thrown around, but thank you for your comment... television does provide an important link between people and animals.
@camelsandfriends Oh. You're right. Jack comes from a very prestigious zoo & that's where he keeps these animals - I forgot. I'm not happy with concepts of zoos BUT they're better locations for exotic animals than someone's stuffy home. These animals need specific care & diets. "Rescue" is used lightly only because the animal is going from a less adequate environment to a more suitable one, not a perfect one. But you're welcome & thank you for listening ^^
@addie899 You're right, there are some people that keep exotic animals in less than ideal conditions- there's even people who abuse them which is horrifying- but that happens all the time with dogs and cats, too. I keep "exotic animals" and they are definitely not in my stuffy home. I have acres of land and they're cared for just as well as in a zoo, if not better. I say better cause I devote a large amount of my time to their care and training and their habitat is much larger than most zoos.
@camelsandfriends Yeeea, but Jack doesn't deal with dogs and cats. Unless they're jaguars and hyenas. And I'm assuming that you have camels... Though, I doubt you have them for fun or to show them off. People do abuse animals & its very unfortunate but there's still people who care for/love their animals & its still not a suitable environment for them because the owners aren't knowledgeable or trained to take care of them properly. And that's when the animals suffer. Jack tries to explain that.
Wow, such a different reception on this show than he got on Letterman. Ellen lets Jack actually finish his sentences and gives him enough time to talk intelligently about these wonderful animals. Fantastic vid--thanks for posting.
Well he and Dave have an understanding on how the show works. Ellen has him on for strictly educational purposes. Mostly to say how non-domesticated animals shouldn't be taken in as house pets. Dave's all about the jokes.
I was thinking the same thing. On Letterman he always looks so flustered and a bit disoriented because Dave's always interrupting him while he trying to say something about the animal, making things even more chaotic. All we ever get then is someone brings out an animal, Letterman makes a couple quips, Hanna stumbles over his words, and then the animals is taken away without us having heard much of it. Kinda frustrating. Funny, but frustrating.
Here's something I learnt not so long ago. When you hear that distinctive 'twit' 'twoo' it's not 1 owl,it's actually 2 owls 'talking' to one another! However,it could be that the person who told me this was merely yanking my chain, lol. And Ellen is simply a dream!
Jack Hanna has made a career exploiting animals. He defends animals in cages, zoos, aquatic parks etc. because he makes money off of exploiting them. He is not an animal expert. He has political connections at Sea World which is why he defends Sea World.! Jack Hanna only has Jack Hanna's interest in mind, and at the cost of animals welfare. Jack Hanna an animal advocate - ridiculous. By the way, I know the guy personally and he is a real asshole.
@truth2748 your a lie...I met him at Busch Gardens-very nice man. He knows animals inside & out. If you don't like the guy or what you may think he defends-don't go to his shows
